Shounen and shoujo are demographics, not genres. Slam Dunk, Naruto, and Death Note are all shounen series, but they're completely different genres (sports, action, and psychological, respectively). Someone might like all of them, but if you're not going to recommend Slam Dunk if someone wants a series like Death Note. Describing something as shounen or shoujo isn't especially useful in letting someone know what the story will be like; it just tells you that it's targeted at young boys or young girls.
My favorite genres are sci-fi, fantasy, and yuri, but I'm willing to try most series regardless of genre if the story seems interesting.

Im into Action, Comedy, Mystery, Shounen, Psychological, Adult/Mature & Romance.
My personal favorites are Noblesse and 7 Seeds. Im also constantly checking for updates on Nozoki Ana and Black Joke. So basically, those 4 are what I'm currently into.
"7 Seeds" is a must-read! At first, the art (Josei style) might be a turn off but it gets better later on. Trust me, the character depth and plot are adkfsakjhgjf amazing and clever. It has comedy and romance. It teaches a lot of lessons on life, friendship, etc. I really love it <333
