He was struck, again. And he was flattened. Again. And he awoke, bleary eyed and battered at the bottom of the hill.
Again.
Enough was enough. He couldn't deal with anymore punishment today, and he had a weremantis to get back to. He needed the other boil to think he was being safe, not out getting struck by lightening again and again, though he was sure if he explained why he was doing it, Yin would understand.
And so, when he was ready and able, he pushed himself to his feet and stumbled off towards the undead dorms. He could shower, get a change of clothes, feed his pets, and return to this horrible course some other time.

Alex had to come back, the next time he was able. Had to give it one more shot and see if there was any way he could over come this disability known more commonly as slowness. He let his backpack slide off of his shoulder to the ground, he let his skateboard drop as well from underneath his arm.
He hadn't intended on coming here at all. He was just going to go to the maul, do some shopping, chill out, distract himself from the problems he'd been having. But somehow, someway, he had found himself coming here first. He needed to do this, he had to be able to overcome some type of obstacle, to prove to himself that he could be better, that he wasn't just a hopeless case, that he was somebody who was deserving of the person he called his bonded.
He stood at the bottom of the hill, gaze flickering skywards towards it's peak that was oh so far in the distance, and began his journey up thunder road.
As all of the times before, the first part of the course seemed to be the easiest, and he made it through without being struck by lightening.

It was so close. So incredibly close! His feet thudded against the rocky ground, his fists pumped at his side. He was picking up the pace more. He was running.
Alex. Was. Running.
And then, disaster. His skeletal foot caught on a rock as he ran, causing him to stumble, to careen forward. He fought with every inch of his body to remain upright, to not hit the ground. To stop now could mean the end, could mean that he would have to start over again from the bottom, and he was so close, so close.
He was somehow able to not fall, but by catching himself, he had made himself stop moving, if only for a split second, and that's when the lightening struck. He knew it was coming, could feel the electricity in the air. He could hear the crackling sizzle, could feel the heat of it along his limbs, felt his hair begin to rise. He made himself move, tried to get away but it was too late, and the jolt shook his body even as he lunged forward, causing him to fall and roll along the ground.
He laid there for a moment, thinking he was dead. He must have been dead, or passed out or blacked out.And even if he wasn't any of those things, he had stopped moving and was just lying on the ground. Surely any moment now another lightening strike was going to course through him, tearing him apart into nothing more then FEAR particles so that he could reform in Nurse Crickets office.
But nothing happened.
Blinking, he moved his arms away from his face and stared up at the sky. Above him, there was no lightening flashing in the sky. His head turned to the left, and he saw an incredible sight.
It was the finish line, and he had crossed it. He had made it. He had passed.
It took some time for this thought to finally settle in, for Alex to finally believe that he had done it. He laughed, his face and clothes smudged with dirt and blackened from the electrical shocks he had received. He had done it! He couldn't wait to to tell----
His laughter suddenly cut itself short, the smile slipping from his lips as he thought about the person he most wanted to tell but didn't know if he could, or should, or even if that person wanted him to talk to him ever again.
And so, with that horrible realization in mind, Alex pushed himself to his feet, dusted himself off, and took the safe trial back down to the bottom of the course where he had left his things.
He had passed the course, but the victory wasn't as nearly as sweet as it should have been.
