Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren was relieved that the other had agreed to his request so easily and quickly. Perhaps Mikhail knew and just didn't care? No, that was too much to hope for. He just didn't know and was too polite to ask why he didn't want his other eye to be seen. Mikhail had always been kind, from what he could see. He didn't want that kindness to be used against him in some way. At the offer of food, his stomach grumbled, and he hurriedly turned away. "I-I... n-no thank you, I'm fine. M-my wallet's at h-home." He responded. Getting to know him? No, no he couldn't do that. That would mean learning about each other, including about his eye and his sexual preference. That was an impossibility. He quickly stood once the bell rang and made a dash for the door. Too close. Too dangerous. He would just go to his next class and try to calm down.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

"That's ok! I'll pay." Mikhail shouted and sighed. He went to his history class and half listened. He was wondering why the boy ran away. When school was finished, he grabbed his things from his locker and went over to Laurens. "so if you'll just follow me. I'll lead you to my house." Mikhail said and cleared his throat.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. This time, when Mikhail appeared, he wasn't taken by surprise. He had been on high alert, being cautious of everything around him. Of course, today was making him a helpless, nervous wreck, but he thought he was taking it rather well. At the order, he nodded and obediently followed behind him. He could do this. It was just drawings, right? Nothing personal or big, just a project. He would just sit still and let the other draw him, then they'd be done. Of course, he was also making sure to keep a distance from the others as well. Normally, he waited in the bathroom until everyone was gone before he left to walk home. He wanted to shrink down until he was only a speck, so people wouldn't continue to stare, but he didn't have that ability. "S-so... uh... which street d-do you live on?" He squeaked out. Small talk could work. He had to keep questions at bay, and small talk was good at that. Well, it was good at keeping the dangerous questions at bay. He also hoped Mikhail had forgotten about the offer of food, especially the offer of paying for it. He couldn't accept that from Mikhail. He didn't deserve the royal treatment from such a nice, normal guy. Especially when they'd only just met and all. He should be the one doing things for Mikhail. He was a freak and was nowhere near as deserving as Mikhail was. Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

"I live on east state street. Just a few blocks from here. You?" Mikhail asked as he headed out the school doors. He waved hi to a couple of his friends, but paid attention and listened to Lauren. It would have been rude of him not too. When they reached his house, Mikhail's mom came to the living room and smiled as she saw Mikhails friend."I see you have a new friend. I'll make you boys some cookies." With that she went into the kitchen. "Sorry about my mom." Mikhail said blushing lightly. "She can get that way sometimes."

Don't look at me. Don't stare. "S-same here..." He replied, looking down at the pavement while he walked. "A-at the end o-of the street." Once they'd reached the house, he was shocked once more by the mom. Cookies. His heart sank even further. And now even a kind woman who didn't even know him was catering to him. He was the worst. He would do something for them when he got home. Bake some brownies or something and drop it off in front of their door. it was only fair. They wouldn't have to know it was from him, just from someone. He lifted his head just enough to look around before hesitantly sitting on the couch. "S-so... uh... wh-who should go first?" He asked, fidgeting. This was all new to him, and he found himself wanting to run home and curl up under his bed with a blanket over him. Everything in the room was painted a cheery color, and it gave a feeling of openness. That gave him a feeling of vulnerability. He was a turtle with the shell taken away, and he felt as though he was in a shark tank. If they found out his secret... they would massacre him. 'Focus on the project. Get the picture and get out.' He told himself. Surely Mikhail wouldn't want to deal with him once they had their grade. He would soon be hiding in peace once more. His fantasies of hugging and being friends with Mikhail would be a bit more detailed now, but it would be ultimately the same. He wouldn't ruin Mikhail's life by sticking close to him, and Mikhail just wouldn't care about him. It was that simple, in his mind.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

"You can go first." Mikhail said and sat still, posing for the other. "so how long have you been drawing?" Mikhail asked as he watched Lauren. The other looked so fragile and frightened. Like a baby animal. He wouldn't say anything but that was the impression He was getting. He hoped He and Lauren could become friends.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren hesitantly opened up to a new page and made small, quick glances at him while he drew, inwardly freaking out. "o-oh... I-I'm not sure... l-long time." He replied, trying to sound calm. "I-I have l-lots of time t-to draw, since I-I don't have m-many friends." He admitted. After several minutes, he had a good enough outline ready and didn't want to make him sit still for too long. "O-okay, I-I've got a good b-basic sketch." He told him, setting his sketchbook to the side. He reminded himself that he had to lift his head up for the picture, and he did so, focusing on a point just above Mikhail's head. He knew that he was trembling slightly, but he wasn't used to this. His head held normally, and as though he had nothing to hide. He wished he could hide in a small crevice of his mind, far away from everything. He would always be safe there. If he could escape into his mind, nobody would be able to truly hurt him. They wouldn't be able to reach him. He wanted some kind of security. Something to protect him when he was like this.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

"Well you can add me to the list of friends you have." Mikhail said. he then sneezed and cleared his throat again. 'Sorry about that." Mikhail said going back into the position he was in. "I hate sneezing. My allergies are acting up today. Anyway can you start teaching me to draw tomorrow?" Mikhail asked. He wasn't usually this much of a chatterbox, but when it came to this boy, he was for some reason.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren's eyes widened, though only the uncovered one showed it. "Y-yeah... I-I can start t-teaching you tomorrow..." He looked away. "B-but you don't w-want to be my f-friend." Mikhail obviously didn't know what he was getting into. He wouldn't have asked for friendship if he had the slightest idea that he was gay, much less if he knew about his other eye. He didn't stop to consider that, if he responded as he did to the offer of friendship, the other would question why. He just knew that he couldn't entertain the thought of friendship with Mikhail, and he also knew he couldn't ever let Mikhail find out just how much of a freak he was. Mikhail was treating him as though he were normal, and he couldn't do that. Not here and not around other people. They would label Mikhail a freak too! He couldn't do that to Mikhail.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

'Why can't I be your friend?" Mikhail asked Just then his mom came out with the chocolate chip cookies. "here you boys go. I'm gonna get you two a glass a milk.' she then left a few minutes later she came back with said drink. "Thanks mom." Mikhail said and took a cookie. "I promise i don't bite.' He said smiling.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren fumbled for an answer before the mother came in, nearly shaking with relief. He hesitantly took a cookie, half-expecting a trap to fall down on him or for the treat to be slapped away. He was really allowed to have one? When he was offered milk as well, he looked down. "Th-thank you ma'am..." He said timidly. Were they this kind to all people? For them to just be accepting of everyone? He had a fleeting thought the other had forgotten about the question of friendship, but he knew he wasn't that lucky. "I-I... you... you'd regret it..." He said finally. He didn't want to reveal his horrifying secret, and he instinctively raised a hand to his bang to make sure none of his eye could be seen. He lowered his hand and took a small bite of the cookie, closing his eyes. Warm and gooey... a true treat. He would have to make lots of brownies to make up for this. Good brownies. Maybe with sprinkles and chocolate icing on them. That should make it up to them. He took a slow sip of the milk, looking around out of habit to ensure that no bullies would come and spit in it, though they were in Mikhail's house and not at school.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

'why would I regret it?" Mikhail asked and set his milk cup down. "I would never regret becoming friends with someone. Unless they were mean to me or was a bully." Mikhail said and wondered if Lauren hurt his eye that was hidden behind his hair. maybe that was the reason why he never showed it.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren felt like he was being backed into a corner. His excuses weren't working and he bit his lip. He would have to confess something to him to make him understand. He would have to make a quick getaway though. He quickly ate the rest of the cookie and gulped down the milk before looking at him, thoroughly frightened. "I... I-I'll leave once I show you... s-so you don't h-have to w-worry. A-and y-you won't h-have to see m-me again a-after we're d-done with the project." He told him. He took a deep breath and lifted his bang, revealing the abnormal eye. It was a shiny yellow-gold. He waited only a second, long enough for it too be seen, before he got up and gathered his things quickly. "I-I'll go away now..." He made a dash for the door. Safety. He had to get to safety. Mikhail was sure to hate him now and he had to get out of this warm, kind house and home to his now. He just knew he wasn't welcome here anymore. He couldn't be. He was a freak, and their family was a beautiful, normal family with a kind, normal mother who had given birth to a nice, normal boy. He didn't belong here, and he needed to get back to safety. Away from the cruel normal life he didn't have. Forget my face Pretend I'm not there

'Hey wait.' Mikhail said and followed after lauren. He grabbed the others wrist and shut the door. "In no way does having two different eye colors does that make you weird. "I think that's really cool." Mikhail said smiling. 'Gold and green go good together and with out bright your eyes are, I think there beautiful." Mikhail said and then blushed. "So please don't leave? Have some more milk and some more cookies?" Mikhail asked releasing Laurens wrist.

Don't look at me. Don't stare. Lauren squeaked in fear as the other caught up with him, his heart racing. He shut his eyes tightly and prepared for the blow he knew would come. His escape had been cut off and now he was going to be pummeled. Nobody would be there to stop him. He was de-what? Cool? He looked up at him in confusion and terror. Beautiful? He... he really thought his eyes were beautiful? Lauren found himself blushing a little. When Mikhail let go of him, he looked at him, then the door, torn between whether to stay or leave. It could be a trap. A cruel trap to cause him more pain... but he was hungry... that decided it. Very, very hesitantly, he took small steps back to the living room. He was shaking from anxiety and clutched his bag to his chest like a security blanket. Safe? He was safe? He looked down to avoid eye contact and slowly reached for another cookie. Would he be stopped? Was the offer of food a ruse? And yet... he wasn't stopped. He quickly ate the cookie and swallowed. What did Mikhail want from him? He was feeding him and being nice... nobody was ever nice to him without a reason. An angle. Surely this wasn't for some stranger Mikhail had only just met today. "S-so... I-I... y-you... you don't h-hate me?" He asked timidly.Forget my face Pretend I'm not there
