I remember being a teenager and loving yaoi and anime, now I'm in my 20's and find both irritating. I doubt it's as popular here as in America, but I know a couple of anime buffs who are heavily into yaoi, one of whom is a homosexual hating Catholic chick.

I had to google it.

Yeah, I'm not sure it's particularly popular here.

You had to GOOGLE yaoi? What is with you people?

Apologies. Japanese cartoons don't really feature in my life, "Boy Love" even less so.

Frankly, outside of a certain population segment, one which is heavily overrepresented on Gaia, yaoi isn't a huge thing over here in the States either.

Homosexuality, to be sure, is addressed in a sub-genera of romance novels and in some movies, but yaoi, with its Japanese cultural basis, isn't seen outside of anime, manga and their respective fandoms.

WHATS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!

Please do pardon any rudeness my friend might have thrown out... ^ ^;;
I may be American, but British culture has been appart of me my whole life, so I'm basicly a British girl with American blood-, if that makes any sense. XD
And I am alittle shocked that you had to Google Yaoi Invictus, alot of otaku's have heard about it at least once. (no offence.) But I do get where you're coming from; don't get me wrong.

Ergh. Should I admit that I had to google "otaku" as well?

Having done so, I can understand why otaku/s have a knowledge of yaoi...but as otaku-ness isn't really a feature for most people in the country, it's understandable that the "Boy Love" subtype of manga/anime/Japanese literary culture is effectively unheard of in most places.

Contrary to the skewed impression one might receive from the population of Gaia, most people in either of our countries would have to look up what "otaku" means.

I live in America, and most of my close friends are really into anime and study japanese. I still had never heard of yaoi or the word otaku until reading this post. I think yaoi is less popular than you think it is. I also don't think I would like it.

Anyone caught with it is sentenced to two years hard labour, during which time you will be forced to write a mournful poem. Afterwards you will be sent to Paris.

...answer is no, I doubt it. I certainly don't, nor do many of my female anime-nerd-super-otaku friends.
Looks like I will have to give it up before I move to foggy Old England.

And always remember to refer to it as "rainy" Old England. We don't get fog; we just get lighter, finer rain. xd
No yaoi and a lot of rain. Ugggh. Just kidding. I know England's rainy. I like the rain.

That's why its such a beautiful country. We have just the right amount of rain and sun, perfect.

I only know two yaoi fans so I don't think it is, ahhh I wish it was more loved I tried explaining to my non otaku friends about it and they had a great look of disguist ^^ Oh well razz

I admit to being rather fond of it.
But the entire Otaku culture confuses me. If you're obsessed with something, isn't it natural to keep it to yourself instead of adopting a label? neutral
