So she had been drinking. That explained the tired look on her face. He raised an eyebrow after she spoke. "Splenda? Calories? Look at you, you're already a bean pole why do you need to cut calories? As for the traffic." He thought for a moment before finishing.
"Couldn't get your attention from the bus and I wanted to know if you were ok." He said in a slight affectionate tone and ruffled her hair. He looked at the surroundings for a moment. They were about fifteen or twenty minutes away from the college. His fingers drummed on his knee as if it were piano keys.

Gabriella fixed her hair and rolled her eyes. It was her profession and her fiancee that wanted her to cut the calories. "Bean pole.." she muttered and made that little huff noise of hers. She kept going straight.
Taking a deep breath after a few moments of silence she blew a strand of her fiery hair out of her eyes and glanced over at him. She had heard him taping his fingers. "Is the vampire in the mood to play piano, or is he in a rush?" she always used to say that to him when they were younger. It was almost habit. It just had been so long since she said that, that it sounded wierd to her now. Not in a bad way though.

He chuckled softly to himself as she muttered at him. She then made a comment about his fingers tapping. And called him vampire again. "Just hearing music in my head again. I wrote some new songs for class. And I am not a vampire." He replied with a slight scowl. Even though he put up a front, he really didn't mind when she called him one. It sounded different coming from her now, but still in a good way.
"Besides." He whispered. "I'm never in a rush if it means leaving you." He said quietly, then his musical mind went to work once again and he began tapping out a new set of notes.
"So what's with the giant portfolio?"

Gabriella almost reacted to what head said about rushing but an idiot cut her off. She wasn't in the mood. She hit the breaks "Son of a b-" she bit her lip so she wouldn't swear. She hated swearing. She rarley did it. Very rarley. She pulled to a red light.
Looking back at her portfolio she tried to think. She shook her head and kept driving. "I have to uh," she inhaled again. "Show some of my stuff at a college career fair. Over ...at that college on Filmstreet.." she glanced around then took a right.
"New songs? Thats cool. Have you submitted any of your work to any producers?" she was interested, but half of her mind was on driving. She always got paranoid after the slightest thing.

Daryn swore loudly at the moron who cut her off but was soon listening to her again. "That's my college." He said already in a kind of trance after the small traffic incident. "No, not yet. I want to finish college first before I actually start anything." He knew she was listening, but it felt like she wasn't. It was like that when they were growing up too. He again thought of all the events of his life. They flashed wildly through his mind and whirled around until he felt sick. They stopped at a red light and he finally couldn't handle it anymore. "Go into that parking lot. We need to talk and not while you're driving." He said, his voice serious. He had a good voice. Daryn had always been a good singer when he accompanied the piano.

Gabriella glanced at him then at the road. "I've gotta be there by..." she could hear by the sound of his tone that he didn't care. She glanced at the time and sighed. She pulled over to the parking lot and parked.
When the car died she took a sip of her coffee and let the silence consume them for a fw moments. Then she turned in her seat to look at him. "What do we need to talk about?" she asked. Her voice was soft as always but there was a hint of nervousness behind it.
Just by the look on his face she got the butterflies again. Out of instinct she fiddled with the ring on her left hand. For some reason it felt foriegn. Just like the atmosphere.

Daryn had also turned to face her, and he realized for a split second that he hadn't even worn his seatbelt but quickly pushed that thought aside. He glanced at the ring on her left hand. "Do you actually love that s***head? He treats you like dirt. And don't try to tell me it's a guy thing of his." He was looking at her with a hard gaze, his dark eyebrows drawn over his eyes.
He couldn't stand to lose her like this, not over some idiot who didn't even appreciate her for who she was. He thought about the coffee and his fist tightened. It was probably him that told her to cut calories. He probably would have punched the windshield if the sun hadn't caught her hair then. He gulped as it turned a fiery color and his dark green eyes locked on her, though he fought to keep up the tough appearance.

Gabriella looked at him confused at first. why is he asking...? She assumed it was because he hated jocks. She always knew he hated jocks...But why was he coming acrossed so strong? It was just a week ago he had congradulated her.
"Dayrn..I know he can be an a..jerk. But " She looked at her ring then back to him. Then put a hard face on. She remembered being a teenager and dropping him hints all the time and getting nothing in return. How she felt...
"Don't call him that. You don't know him very well..to be calling him that" Gabriella was always horrible at arguing. She crossed her arms and glanced at her phone. She had a few messages from Jason but ignored them, checking the time.

Daryn steeled himself when she glanced at her phone. He didn't want to leave until he got a straight answer so he reached over and slick as a magician, took the keys from the ignition.
"You're not answering my question and we're not moving until you do. I just don't want you to end up regretting that" He gestured at her ring and the stupid jock that was behind it.
He was stubborn thanks to his partly scottish background, his italian part made him charismatic and his Irish part was where he got his fight.

Gabriella watched in astonishment. She couldn't believe he was acting like this! Out of the middle of nowhere. It was killing her on the inside. Why did he care now? Him of all people.
She bit on her lower lip. She always did that when she was getting seriously pissed. She picked up her phone and ignored the call, sending her fiancee to voice message. Princess took a deep breath.
"Why does it matter to you ?" there was pain behind the words. Plus the look in her eyes was full of agony and pain to add to it. Her life had complicated in her eyes and he wasn't there to help her ease of her mind anymore. So what did it matter? She turned and looked out the window. "Give me the keys.." he had hit a nerve.

Daryn watched her as she snapped at him. He didn't want to complicate things, but he had to know if he had even a chance to win her. He'd been stupid as a teenager, thinking she'd be happier if she just stayed his friend. She was a good girl and he was a ruffian, but now he knew what she wanted, and it wasn't Jock Jason.
"I care because.... because I made a huge mistake in letting you go..." He said and trailed off at the end, looking at the dashboard of the car. He fiddled with the keys but stuffed them in his pocket for the moment.

She took a deep, slow breath and layed her head on the steering wheel. At that moment she wanted to rip into two people. One half wanting to just give herself over to Dayrn like she had when she was a teen and the other to Jason because it was the right thing to do. But her head was already pounding from her headache.
"Dayrn don't ...not..don't do this to me" her voice was stressed and pleading. "Not now. I have a job to get too. I'm engaged. " she was talking like she did when she set up a checklist. She sat up and leaned back in the seat, her eyes shut.
A memory of her and Dayrn played through her head. ; The two of them were on the playground at school. Her on the swingset and him trying to climb the side of the swingset. They had to be around ten and he was being stubborn. He didn't want her to go to summer camp and they argued. In the end he won. He always did..
Gabriella opened her eyes. She knew he wouldn't give up on the conversation. It was a given. But she didn't want to be late to the college fair.
"I'll be staying at my mothers this week." she looked at him. "If you want to talk to me. Talk to me there. When i'm not dealing with a hangover" she didn't look at him. Afriad he'd pull at her heart again. She reached over to her phone and picked it up as it rang again.
Sighing she picked it up. "Hello?" she listened for a moment and Jason replied with a snap asking why she wasn't picking up. "I dropped my phone" She lied. She rarley did. But she wasn't about to tell him she was with Dayrn. "Yeah..I'll be at my moms.." he hung up before she could say goodbye.
Putting her phone away she held her hand open. "Give me the keys Dayrn.." her head was pounding.

Daryn watched the poor princess agonize and replied to her engaged comment. "Maybe you are. But it's obvious to anyone that you wish you weren't." He watched her for a long while and a small wave of nostalgia washed over him.
He remembered when they were about 12. There had been a horrible storm and the lights were knocked out. His little princess had been all alone and he just knew he had to help her. He had peddled his bike in the pouring rain all the way to her house and when she opened the door, he could have sworn she had never looked more happy to see him. They found blankets to wrap up in and some candles to light. Eventually the power had come back and they just shut off the lights and fell asleep watching a movie.
He was snapped back to reality when she explained about being at her mom's house. Then she answered her blasted cell phone and he wished he could have ripped it from her hands, told the jock to screw off and then hung up. But she was at her limit with his shenanigans. "Fine. But there's no way you've won this...... Can I still have a ride?" He asked with his best puppy eyes, trying to lighten the dark mood he'd put her in. He even threw in a small whine as he held up her keys.

[l0l sorry] Gabriella nodded. "You know I wouldn't make you walk..." she took the keys and started the car. Her eyes didn't leave the street ahead of her as she pulled out. She stayed silent for the rest of the ride.It wasn't that she was mad, she was afraid if she kept talking she'd ruin it all.
PUlling up to the college she stoped to let him out. She had to go park and she didn't want him to be late.
