Well, now, while I don't read yaoi, per se, and have approximately one volume of BL (in German), to be honest, it's not like whether it would bother my parents/loved ones is high up my list.
I can read whatever I want, considering that I've always done so, my parents have always considered me responsible enough to let me do so, and in any case, I'm legally able to buy anything I want.

Seconding all this...to be honest I don't see the point of "confessing" to your family that you read smutty gay comics xD It's not like you make it a habit to tell them about everything that you read, so why make an exception for BL?

One of the few people i trust gave me a noogie.

the other one typed via facebook, "If that's what you like, you shouldn't be ashamed of it. I'd just tell your mother, if i were you...by the way what is it about 'yaoi' that you like?"

I got into it a long time ago when I couldn't keep anything a secret. I showed a few shonen-ai mangas to my sister, she read them and became a sort-of fan herself. And I remember my Mum watching a few episodes of Gravitation with me, but she actually got bored, so...

Nowadays, though, I've sort of moved on from the cute, fluffy stuff into hard-core slash. I don't show my porn collection to my family, so why would I show them my slash? (It's actually pretty embarrassing--at my birthday, there were eight of us watching as one of my friends operated my laptop. She pressed a button and somehow brought up my folder of Star Trek slash. I wanted to die.)

I've only showed it to my friends, especially my best friends. They seem to not mind, they even sort of like it. My mother has seen some of the pics I keep, and even somewhat understands my conversations with my friends, and she doesn't seem to mind.

My father just needs a bit of convincing, so I might tell him later.

Well, I've never had the need to show anyone the yaoi I write because most of my friends know about it and even write it with me, sometimes.
However, my parental units don't know.
I was almost busted once when my ex-girlfriend left out folder full of smut under the coffee table in the living room and my mother found it. I'm not ashamed to say I lied. I'm pissed that most of my stories (my very first yaoi story as well) had to go to my ex's house to be "protected" and I never got them back.

I'm over it now, as my ex was never wholly trustworthy....

I can't show anyone...anyone!! My parents are religious nuts and would destroy my computer if they knew..I'm even too scared to tell my best friend in the whole world he does know I'm gay but..I'm into freaky stuff don't want to scare him off..

It's never really come up in conversation, to be honest. I've never needed to explain why I prefer beef over chicken, neither do I expect to be asked to explain my interest in BL/Slash.Though I'm not one for hardcore Yaoi, so it's probably less of a big deal.

I've never shown them ANYTHING.

I'm pretty sure my mom doesn't know and I know for a fact my sister doesn't even know what it is. I tend to hide them from most people, especially my ex-boyfriends 'cause they don't know that I like it. Not ashamed of liking yaoi, it's just that they wouldn't be ready to handle it.

But all my friends now I'm a yaoi fan. Even if they don't like it themselves though that's maybe one since all my friends are some level of yaoi fans.

Both of my parents know. I bought my first Gravitation manga when I was 15 and my mom was with me and my dad saw me reading it and thought it was a guy and a girl..until he actually read it. He was kinda weird about it first but he is over it now. I even watch yaoi dvds (the fluffy kinda not sex just kissing you know what I mean) in the living room big screen and they walk in and just ask if it's a good dvd.

I am 25 and married and live with my partner, so I don't have to worry about things like that. razz

My partner knows all about my BL obsession. We read and write and draw it together, and travel to conventions (including Bishie Con, our region's Yaoi/BL convention) sharing our wares.

My closest friends are all fans and readers/writers/viewers of BL also, so nothing to worry about there.

When I was a teen and lived with my parents, they found some of my yaoi and the comics I'd drawn and tried to throw it all away. Now, though, there's not much they can do about it. I keep my BL stuff in the bedroom where they don't have to look at it when they're over (and so unsuspecting guests don't randomly pull them out of the bookshelves in the living room and give themselves a start!) One of our maintenance workers once commented on the Yaoi Press posters in the bedroom, but I think he thought the uke was a girl.

hmm let's see...
When I was having problems with my wireless internet connection on my psp I asked for help from my dada =D
Unfortunately, I forgot about the yaoi bg i had at the time.
He asked me, all casual like, "oh where dyou get that image?"
*blushes* "ha oh uh...yeah..um...online =D"
"Thats my little Miss~ Always anime, anime, anime...*sigh* Problem fixed, here you go!"
"thanks =D *RUNS OFF*"

They don't seem to notice that both characters are male.
But quite honestly, what parent understands or can see the difference in anime style? Especially if the uke is always pictured girly like ?
I have a few yaoi mangas, 2 or 3 of which I have to hide because they're so graphic. They all know when I end up book shopping because--well,that's all I shop for most of the time LOL
and my mother does ask about my book shopping spree, which is then followed by a book parade =D

So,do they know that I buy that kind of books? No.
Would I share with them the content of the mangas I buy?Hell no Dx They don't have any interest and only smile whenever they see anything manga related ; because they know I like it~
Am I of legal age to be reading such books?! LOL YES.22

Yeah I showed it to someone really close to me. He would even buy it for me because I'm under 18. Sometimes he would let me have his atm card that way I can order online.

Oh man, that happens all the time.
"Sis come help me with this thing on my computer that I don't even know what I'm doing."
"Sure what's the problem holy s**t what the hell are you looking at."
"Oops."

Although on rare occasions she asks me to send it to her.
