Honestly, I believe people who need religion are too weak to deal with life on their own, so they need a god to make everything that happens to them justified.

If God is so all-powerful and omnipotent, why are we still living in a veritable Hell? If he really cared for his children, he'd do something about it. And according to the all-holy Bible, his love is eternal and unconditional.

Hmm...well I'm not exactly Atheist but I'm certainly not Christian. For me, the term to be used would be an apathetic Agnostic. I don't know how the Earth was created or whatever, and I don't care. Now normally this would cause a person's spiritual health to be way too low and it would affect their overall wellness. Well, there are some things I believe in that keep my spiritual health somewhat intact. I believe in dreamcatchers and the messages our dreams send us. That and there are small tidbits from random religions that I find acceptable. Karma definitely, and even the Christian views of not murdering and not committing adultery even though way back when in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and even back with the Romans, they killed people for not being Christian all the time.

Plus there's also the whole me being bisexual thing that automatically makes me feel excluded from a lot of religions. That and their overall horrible treatment of certain types of people. I'm not saying all Christians are bad by any means, but the religion has always made me feel very awkward and uncomfortable. Heck, there's pretty much only one Christian friend I have that doesn't try at some point to shove the religion down my throat.

By the way, just a tip to the Christians out there and pretty much any religion in general. Please do not try to convert people who have already decided what they are. We don't appreciate it. Two girls in my Health class heard me mention that I was Agnostic and how my spiritual health was pretty low. Automatically they said, "If you believed in God you wouldn't have a low spiritual health." They kept on telling me this and that I should go to church and whatnot despite the fact that I'd given the exact same reasons I've given you. It really annoys us when you try to push your beliefs onto us.

@AThousandLullabies: Sincere apologies for not responding sooner.
I couldn't have put it any better than zephyrkitty.

I'm not saying that all religious people do good because God wants them to. But there are those that do it just because "if I don't, God will send me to Hell. So I'm going to do it anyway, even if I don't really believe in *insert deed here*. "
I mean, if it goes against what you believe in, why are you going to do it?

I agree with your last little bit. It gets annoying. I live in an area where nearly everyone is Christian and being anything else is very frowned upon. Even my own mother tried to tell me I had something wrong with my head.

There just isn't any proof. People can claim that they've been made a miracle out of, that they've had things happen to them that only God can do, but what about UFO's? Unicorns? Trolls and Gnomes? People can claim all they want, but when I see it, I'll believe it. That doesn't mean that God needs to phase down like someone from a star trek special, but once I have real and solid proof that he exists, I'll give it a second glance.

Plus, the bible is not proof. Anyone can write Fantasy. I mean, just look at the 'Magic Tree House' series. Can't get much more fantasy then that. Maybe Jesus existed. Maybe he had large troupes of people follow him as he touched the ailing. But I cannot say for sure, and as soon as I have a 'roman time Gazette', I'll be more convinced.

Four words: Lord of the Rings.
MTH is part fantasy and part historical fiction, which is hardly what I'd consider high fantasy.

I completely agree with you. This is partially what i was trying to get at in my previous post, how I'll give the idea of God some interest once there is solid, recorded, true proof that he exists. There is no way for sure to tell that he is real and there is maybe some way to tell that he doesn't exist (Heaven above Earth?! Where is the top anyway? And does he live in space?!)

Hi. I be Catholic. xD But I'd like to comment (not against anything, just offering another view) on some of the remarks made. Like on the scientific stuff versus Adam and Eve, especially.

Anyhoo, yeah, I agree it's not very likely that the human race formed out of 2 people. And I do believe in evolution. I just think that God created everything (atoms and such) requisite for evolution. Pope John Paul II released a statement having to do something with the symbolism of Adam and Eve--like the story should not be taken literally but rather as symbolism of God's relationship with man and stuff.

Stemming from that, I'm a big one for free will. (The following is just my opinion--I'm not contesting anyone.) I believe there are tragedies happening in the world today because if there weren't, how would we know who the good people were? If everyone didn't have the power to make their own decisions (even being evil and killing people), how could we really appreciate goodness and people who are genuinely good?

For KinaMorii, I agree. You shouldn't do stuff just to get in good with Him. But think about it... if you are doing good solely for that reason, that says a lot about your faith, doesn't it? To do things for someone you've never met, never seen, and don't have 100% concrete proof exists? I think that says something. It reminds me of the story of... I think it's Psyche and Cupid. Anyway, Psyche (if it is her) can't ever see him and just has to trust that he's not evil/not human, but she loves him and does. (Until her sisters come in. Then she looks at him when he's asleep and she can see him, breaks the trust, loses him, has to do all kinds of things for Venus to get him back, but finally does. In case you were wondering. xD) But it's sort of like that, I think. Amazing trust and faith.

And if you're still going "Well, it's still not good because he/she is not the kind of person who would actually do that," in order to make it to Heaven (in my opinion, at least), you have to do all those good deeds over the course of a lifetime. Very few people who cared only about staying out of Hell could keep that up throughout their lives. Even if they manage to do it for a short but significant period of time, it could change who they are. There's a term in psychology I forget the name of, but if you argue or do something enough, you eventually begin to believe in it. It's like your mind doesn't want to be in conflict with what you're saying or doing, so it eventually comes to believe it. So, someone who was originally doing good things just to get in good with God could end up actually becoming the kind of person who would do them.

For all the issues with the Bible people: yeah. I think we can't always take the Bible literally. You can find pretty much anything in the Bible if you look hard enough. There are passages that say that all you need is faith and passages that say you need faith and good works to back it up. You can find almost anything if you get nitpicky. I think you just have to draw an overall impression.

Meh. I tried to express thoughts. xD

I am not sure about the existence of god because science always overrules religion. And, really, if there actually is some "greater thing" out there...how can it make me suffer like this? How can it make the WHOLE world suffer?
I'm not going to label myself an atheist. Because I'm not. Thats just another religious term I don't want to get referred to. I'm just...not "sure"?
Gosh I feel horrible saying this.

If you think about the scientific reasonings, it just doesn't make sense that any form of god actually exists. I simply believe it is just for something for humans to believe in to feel a sense of comfort and a will to live. So, when you go up on a plane above the cloud, you wouldn't see any form of life walking on the clouds would you? Also, I believe we human were created through evolution and breeding. When I mean evolution, I am talking about evolution from monkeys. If you look, we humans and monkeys are quite similar.
Anyway, if 'gods' were to be proven that it existed, I might believe in it and apologized. When I mean by prove, I'm not talking about bibles, stories, or anything like that. I want to see it with my own eyes.
