How do the fluffs inflict annoyance upon us?

Differs from individual to individual. The latest rash in real life and here have centered around name calling and debasing others traditions and cultures in order to feel special.

I am saying my observation is that in the open, people don't acknowledge it and behind closed doors, they are annoyed by it.

And the loss of contextual signals does effect interactions, but that this effect can be counteracted by keeping a realistic approach to a conversation- that not imagining slight where there is none has to take place if there is going to be a dialogue.

There are common patterns, but they aren't the sum of the problem.

One thing that the recent search function brought is a number of people who don't care that this is a rehab guild, but instead care that it is a "pagan guild".

The ratio of "recovering fluff" to "perpetually willfully ignorant" has shifted.

To address the point of focusing on the boundaries of this guild... This is going to work against goals. If our actions and expectations are contrary to societal expectations, it will not be an environment for interaction save in very special cases.
We cannot use a language that does not exist on the outside, nor can we ignore the social conventions that will be producing the standard from which the reactions of the uninitiated are drawn. We could try to make this into a monastery, but that seems beyound the scope of this guild.

The adage of you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink holds true.

You can't force someone to think critically, and no one expects everyone to agree with everyone else here. But at the same time, some behavior isn't to be tolerated.

Okay, I'll bite, how much attention do we really want to give to the ...how to recover part.
We've got some examples and specific suggestions, but is that focusing more on symptoms than causes?

Continuing with the "disease" premise, when the symptoms can degenerate into something caustic or itself damaging to the people treating the cause, it becomes something that needs attention in of itself

Name calling, insults, various abuses of logical discourse, can all lead someone off track at best, and actually hurt their feelings at worst. Learning to identify them for what they are in advance, and then acting in accordance with that and circumventing them accordingly can be the difference between staying on topic with someone a bit fluffy and helping them realize their ignorance to a shout fest that helps no one.
