I want to watch Ichi the Killer. I (well my boyfriend) has it on DVD but Ive never got round to watching it.

It's worth seeing at least once, but it has pretty thin replayability. Miike is a pretty weak director- imagine Tarantino, but without the smart homages to older film trends.

I watched it last night. It was pretty sick but over the top sick to the point you know it's fake.

Like I said, he's a lot like Tarantino. But without the smart homages. On the positive side, he doesn't force himself into his own films, as Tarantino does.

I got confused at first because the blonde guy was on the cover so I spent the first 45 minutes thinking he was Ichi.

I made the same mistake, actually.

If you can find it, try "The Audition". It's a japanese horror film. Towards the end it's rather graphic at points, but generally it involves what happens when a girl wants this man to Love her and ONLY her....

Audition (no "The") is pretty good. Probably Miike's best, though, if you ask me, that isn't saying a lot. Of Japanese horror films that are well known amongst Americans, it's also pretty good; though, in my view, that also isn't saying a lot.

I would recommend "Woman in the Dunes", myself. An absolutely fantastic Japanese thriller from the early 1960's. Written by Kobo Abe (and based on his own novel of the same name), the film is often characterized by critics as a drama or romance. However, it's structure and direction are more akin to horror or thriller films than to drama or romance. Grounded in the real world, the film is intensely creepy in a "What if this happened to me?" sort of sense. And as odd as this sounds, I honestly would consider it a forefather of Carnival of Souls and the Silent Hill franchise, both of which deal with very similar themes.

-Resurrected Writer-
Eraserhead
Night of the Living Dead
Jacob's Ladder

If you like silent films:
Nosferatu
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

I have to agree with this list.
I love the DVD menu for Eraserhead. I watched it for hours.

I would HIGHLY suggest that, if you want to watch movies daily, that you get a Netflix account. Send me a PM and I'll get your a month free.
You can watch movies at any time, even on your 360 biggrin
They have tons of great classics available on Instant Watch, and even more on DVD. Only 17$ a month, beats the hell out of Blockbuster.

You may not like it - but there's always the shining.
It may not be particularly scary or fit into the whole mess with your genre, but it's still a damn good film.
Which version?

You seen Sukiyaki Western Django yet? It's a Miike film with Tarantino in it. Overall, it was really ******** stupid.

About a year and a half ago I discovered the Asian horror genre, and it pretty much ate my life. -^^- It's actually why I dyed my hair black...
Anyway, if you ever are tempted to watch an American remake of an Asian movie, skip the middleman and just watch the original. They are invariably scarier, better done, and make more sense. Also, they tend not to throw on gratuitous sex so much; always a plus in my book. The plot points that they leave out of the remakes... it's appalling. Like in Ringu, Ryujii was psychic and Sadako was a hermaphrodite, hence... pretty much all of her abilities and motivation.
If you want a believable happy ending in your horror, you might want to look up Gui Si ("Silk", it's Taiwanese, but not a cheap knockoff).
I've been getting bunches through Netflix, their selection is excellent, but I can't remember any names at the moment. I'll look up some good ones tomorrow.

Yep, seen in.

And yep, Miike continues to prove to me that he's a really ******** awful director. And Tarantino proved to me that he's still an unwatchable screen presence.

Ehh... both versions are alright, but neither is exemplary. If you've ever seen a "Ghost hides inside modern technology" film (i.e. The Ring, Pulse, One Missed Call, etc.), you've pretty much seen this one already. If you like those films, go for it. Otherwise, you may wish to avoid it.

Yeah, Haute Tension. Switchblade Romance. Either name is used in various releases. Good film. I personally think he did a great job with the Hills Have Eyes remake as well, which is one of my favorite remakes of the decade.

Both are great in their weird ways. Along with these two, I'd also suggest Eaten Alive! (not to be confused with the Tobe Hooper film of the same name; it's Italian title: Mangati Vivi), which is probably the worst of the three films, but is also certainly the funniest. The other two are pretty intense, but Mangati Vivi is significantly lower quality on all levels, making it an entertaining failure.

If you enjoy these, there are also a number of other Italian cannibal films worth looking in to, as well as some great Italian zombie films (notably, Dr. Butcher M.D., which features both living cannibals AND zombies) and Italian exploitation films in general.

Funny little film, one of the first great parodies.

Thanks everyone. i will definitely look in to these movies. The only one I've seen lately that was actually worth watching was The new Amityville Horror . and i am watching Silent Hill but its not that scary its just weird. And I'm waiting for mirrors to come in from the library. so we will see how that one is.

i'm waiting to get my claws on a copy of Repo: the genetic opera...

I've heard a few good things about the film, just wish I could see it live.

(why, oh why do the broadway shows I really want to see never seem to tour anywhere near me?)
