You must have put some time and effort into this one. (But a lot of the things listed kind of tick me off, being a Shatner fan and all...)

And... *dun kill meh* I'll always like Kirk the most. I just love the good 'ol days when Starfleet officers ran a looser ship.

agreed, i love kirk too, always will. some of your arguments could have been battled though, especially ones that pertained to the actors instead of the character. and i just wanna say one thing, if it hadn't been for kirk and his 1950's sets, there never would have been a picard either.

Kirk was not only a bad Captain, he was a horrible human being (note: Parts of this post have been greatly exaggerated for Hilarity's sake).

When the last member of an Alien species killed several of the crew members, and Kirk found that it could easily have been captured, did he do the right thing and try to let the creature survive? No, he killed it. Because that's how he solves EVERYTHING.

When a world being admitted into Klingon Territory refuses to fight, how does Kirk try to convince them? Well, Good ol' fashion terrorism! Way to go Captain....

Besides, what does Kirk do if there is an enemy on the ship? Shirt off and Brawl. What does Picard do? Hmm, let's FIGURE THIS OUT. Remember, a lot less people died under Captain Picard. Maybe because the colors on the shirts were different, or maybe it's because he actually thought things through.

I often think, if Q tried to judge humanity based on one of Kirk's mission, Kirk would take off his shirt at the sight of Q and try to grapple. Granted, Kirk rarely loses a fist fight, and not knowing of Q's godlike powers, this might seem like a good idea. But Q would just disappear, and then yell at him about the Terrorism and the what not.

It's not Kirk's fault. It's definitely the shirt color. Also, in reference to this alien, Kirk embodies the All-American Spirit. Don't ******** with us! If something was killing my crew, last of its species or not, I can guarantee you that it is going to die.

See, but that's exactly why Picard is better. He's a more complex character than that old Archetype.

That, and Kirk had the writers on his side WAY too much. A problem I had with TOS actually.... But then again, we all know the many issues TOS had anyway.

HELL YES!!!!! i'll take a kick a** American over a sissy frenchman any day of the week.
