Invi - South Wales girls? Really? I'm studying (hah!) in South Wales at the moment... to be fair to them, there's a fair bit of variation. Some of them have quite soft accents, but I've met at least two girls here, talking with whom was the aural equivalent of shoving an ice-pick down your ear.

Ah, this lot were specific to Swansea and Bridgend. Soft accents, and sortof songful. Very endearing.

The think the males of their number suspected something and gave me an instant ribbing when they heard me say the word 'croquet'. It is, apparently, deeply amusing to the Welsh ear.
any word spoken in an Ulster accent is deeply amusing to the English ear apparently... as i learned on my Geography feild trip...

There were a few Ulstermen at the last army course I was on, seemed a fairly good accent really.
why thank you invictus. smile

I'm not sure what accent it is but my friend from England who is from London has a wonderful cheery accent to me. I love talking to him on the phone. My boyfriends from Maidenhead but I'm not sure which one that is either but his mum sounds really upper class with her accent, all haughty taughty.

Hurrah for upper class accents- recently I ran my first roleplaying game- for no reason at all my accent went much more upper class than usual while I was doing it confused

Mine only does that when I'm panicky, tired or very drunk.

West country accents > you all

My accent > West country.

I moved to Wiltshire and I've been here for over ten years now and still not picked up any Wiltshireness. Shame really, might make me sound less like the accent equivalent of semolina.

So, upon revision. Yes.

West country accents > mine.

Am I the only person here who doesn't like their voice? The one thing I like less than photographs of me is recordings of my voice.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 17, 2005 2:38 am
That's me too, resoundingly. Thew sounds of my voice played back actually makes me cringe.

It's horrible, really. Sounds odd, because to me I sound very different.

"Mancunian loon" sounds so good to say, I'm feel sure it's like that for some sort of deeply telling reason.
