I personally believe that most people do fear to die in the moment Death is near, simply because human beings desire to survive. I'm personally not really scared to die but i fear more the though of not seeing the people i love in this life.

I saw someone I know die. And I don't feel bad or sad. But the only things I think about is how dose it feel to die? Should I be scared to die? or should I not care and see what happens? that what I have been thinking ever scents he die.

my condolences on your loss. i've had my share over the last few years. i learned to think of death as an inevitability that will one day happen. i recomend livign your life so that each day counts and doing things that you will not die ashamed of. i can't tell you how death feels as i am am still alive. just remember, it's goign to happen, don't worry about it and try to go without regrets.

I agree with this 100% as I've had more than one firned die. In fact 4 died in one year. I find no point in wasting your life worrying about whats going to happen, becuase your life is short, live it for what it is.

I think I might be afraide to die... Cause I was close to killing myself, but then I was like no i don't want to die. I think it was, cause it wasn't my time and when I'm going to die I'll except it or don't even know what happens tell after it's over... just kind of afraid it will feel

My mom died when I was 11, and that messed me up pretty badly for a while. I got morbid curiosity, (which was actually where I found my interest in gothic stuff) and often questioned death, and the bad dreams I had didn't help. But later in life, my view about the world changed completely (aka I went from mormon to new age and pagan, heh) and now I don't fear death at all. I only fear the empty feelings it might bring, but I think I can probably block a lot of that stuff out now.

no one can tell u how to feel about death but i dont fear it at all, in fact i look at it and i see beauty in all death, a kind of peace and calmness one can only feel in the short moments of death

I'm sorry to hear about the person you know.

What happens after death is unknown to any mortal human being. We are far too inferior to comprehend a god(s), heaven, hell, etc; or whether they even exist.

My personal belief is that when you die, that's it. Nothing special happens. You shouldn't be afraid, because it doesn't matter-- you wouldn't be able to be sad or angry because the electrical impulses being fired from the neurons in your brain would cease to funciton. So live your life to its fullest and don't be so worrisome about something that is out of your control. I try to live my life every day, and if I was to die tomorrow, I would be ready.

Death is impossible to defeat, but most people can overpass this by living within knoledge and the hearts and souls of others. May i ask ,do you think you will forget this friend?

its inevitable. so face it. if your scared sux 4 u. anywys, isnt that what gothicness is all about? or is that just an emo thing?

I have one thing to say: Bullshit.

Death is neither inevitable nor impossible to defeat. Death is a disease. Currently there is no cure, only preventative treatment that eventually fails.

However, as we are learning more and more about the underlying causes of aging and natural death we are learning how to stop it. Emerging biotechnology is extending rat lifespans by up to 10 times. These technologies should be available for a human marked inside of 15 years.

Following that, if technology continues at the pace that it has been for the past 100 years nanotechnology will be in full swing within 20 to 30 years. Nanotech should have the ability to almost instantly repair any damage the body takes. This includes not only the natural damage associated with aging (wrinkles, sagging, loss of bone density, etc..) but physical damage you take (cuts, broken bones, etc..)

Inside of 60 years you should have the option of 'upgrading' your body to a cybernetic/robotic one. Not only will this effectively make you immortal (you'll be able to 'back up' your consciousness) but will also enhance all of your abilities (thought speed/depth, strength, speed, etc..).

Death is an enemy that can be defeated.

as much as i want to live a long life and live it to its fullest, i don't want to defeat death. first of all, life is precious because its SHORT. if we developed this nanotechnology in 60 or so years as you say, we would be pretty much immortal. and the last thing i think anyone wants is immortality, because it just makes life worthless.

living all those years past normal human lifespan to do what? watch your loved ones die? spend a ridiculous amount of more years in school while they teach you pointless mathematics they didn't before? cause you know, if the human lifespan increases, then naturally they would have to increase driving age, drinking age, etc. you probably won't be able to purchase porn until you're 30. wow, does that suck.

why have all these extra years anyway? what do you plan on doing with them? its probably nothing. besides, i've always said that i wanted to die before i get really old and senile, because i've been in a nursing home and i'm more scared of living the remainder of my life completely out of it.

and by the way... this technology may never come. not in your lifetime. so don't get your hopes up.

I would like to thank you all. From this I have leaned that You cannot avoid death, To live is to die, for they are one in the same.

It should also be noted that death (by age) is a genetic trait known as senescence. It's coded into our DNA, but there are some creatures on Earth that have no such trait. They'll live forever, assuming nothing kills them first.

With genetic therapies, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could breed "death" out of our genes within a few hundred years. Not that we would, for reasons of population control.

Many people find something romantic and tragic about the concept of a lone immortal, or a group of immortals. But it's agreed upon by almost everyone I've encountered that pandemic immortality would be a plague upon the world.

Life isn't precious because it's short. Life is precious when there is variety and luster. Life is good when you are full, are loved, and are happy.
When I'm at work, and I've been there for 10 hours, I don't think, "Wow, life is so precious, I want to die right now." I think, "I can't wait till this is over so I can do the things I want to."

If we develop this nanotech within my lifetime, it will be the best thing that's ever happened. To all of us.
Nanotech allows so much more than just living forever. It allows the maximum quality of life. It allows you to re-engineer anything. It allows you to create virtual realities, upload your 'self' to electronic form, eat unhealthily without becoming unhealthy, etc, etc...
It is, would, quite simply, give us full control over the entire world. Pure, elemental control, down to the atomic level.

I want immortality simply because that any society that can mass-produce immortality is one that can also mass-produce happiness.

Why would your loved ones die while you live on? This is technology that will be standard for all 1st world countries. Just like the T.V., the internet, and cell phones, it will be everywhere within a few decades of its invention.

No, you won't spend much time in school. As the human population starts to merge with its technology (it's already starting) we will be able to learn faster. Once we have a working model of the human brain, we'll be able to design electronic tools to interface with it seamlessly. By 2100, if you want to learn a foreign language, you'll simply download the knowledge. You won't have to though. By the time we have this level of nanotech, almost all physical work will be able to be taken care of robotically. You won't be required to do anything. People won't have expectations of you. You won't have to work. If you want to, you'll be able to spend all day, every day playing realistic video games, having online sex that feels real, or downloading designer drugs.

Further, the age requirements of most things will disappear completely. When knowledge is downloadable, a 3 year old will be as smart as any adult. The human growth/development period will be negligible.

Yes, we'll probably waste massive amounts of time. The greatest luxury that a technological society provides us with is free time. When we're freed from the need to do jobs, we will be free to do truly do what we want. We won't be tied down by work, able to freely travel the globe. Why would you want to do menial labor when you can do whatever you feel like?

Death, most commonly, is a product of aging. To truly solve death, we have to solve aging first. Like I said before, we're already well on our way to doing this. You won't get "old and senile." You'll live forever in the body of a 20 year old, if you so choose. You'll be able to completely re-engineer your body entirely. You'll be able to change your age, race, height, race, build, and gender will very little effort.

Most of this will probably come to pass within my lifetime. Even if none of it does, I won't be disappointed. I'm privileged to live in the most advanced, most free, healthiest, longest-lived, generation with the highest quality of life. How can I complain about getting silver, just because someone in the future will get gold?
