My vote is for Culture Rape

I suggest, for the first few, we keep it to one topic to see how that lasts us and while, one topic doesn't seem like that much, but when you think about it, giving the opening person 10 to 20 minutes to talk and then having the rest of the time being the panel reacting would be awesome.

I'd really like Thou, Tea, Myself and, if we have one, an Ecclectic neo pagan (I believe, Patch, that you're ecclectic, you interested).

The first one would be a bit shorter than the rest of them, but from there on in we can start including email responses, im responses to previous topics, conversations, messages, etc.

It so happens I am in the process of redrafting a M&R thread on Culture Rape anyway for Boxy.

I'm including the following talking points:

Concepts and Key Terms
-Defining Culture Rape
-Cultural Appropriation
- Open Culture
- Closed Culture

Archetypes and Practices That Transcend Cultural Boundaries v. Homogenization

Root Causes
-Fallacy of Age
-Sloppy Communication

Perpetuation
-Marketing
-Attacking the idea, not the person
-Autonomy

Ethics

- What the UN has to say
- Neo-Pagan ethical standards

Philosophy
- Logic Says it's a No No.
-- Fallacy of Age
-- Intellectual Honesty

- Does this mean the gods are liars/oathbreakers?

Examples

-Wica: Oathbound Initiation paid by sacrifice
-- Coven Autonomy allowing for Seekers to use the term in some cases, Gardner's application of the word as being interchangeable with Witch and the confusion it brought about

- The Gael: The honor of the Gods and the Gael, oaths sworn
-- Can we get a copy of the oaths sworn?

-Judaism: The Covenant of the Chosen People
-- The Noahide Laws that preserve non-converts

-Japanese
-- The warding of non-Japanese from shrines as monsters

I hesitate to add my ethnicity to the list from the word go- the petition has me a little burned out.

...I've never heard of that. Got any preliminary reading on that? It seems like it might be interesting.

Maybe something about the cross-cultural metaphysical vocabulary of "energy"? Various things are often conflated like ki, prana, auras, "raising energy"...not to mention the physics of mass/energy.
