Bleach Bone
So how big do you intend to get your Nids?

Oh yea! don't forget to paint those spots between some limbs, you know those detail points. Damn what would be a term for them.. Muscle?

The joints? Yeah, I leave them largely black with some bleached bone that I'll later brush some brown ink over. 3nodding The detail points on the sides of the arm get the same treatment, you can see examples on Warrior 1.

My Nids are a pretty tiny group, I'm mostly doing them as a showcase army, with my best painting on most of them. 3 warriors, 1 tyrant, 32 guants, 6 stealers, a bunch of spore mines, and a ripper base.

Nothing says show case like a converted Carnifex ripping a Imperial Guardsman in half, or one totally destroying a tank.

If you can seriously pull that off, you will have the most props I could ever give anyone.

I have a guardsman beheading a Chaos Space Marine, why not a Carnifex ripping a guardsman in half? Or a Tyrant crushing one beneath it's bonesword, or a spore mine oozing acid over a now-melting Space Marine...

Update!

Did the last shading on the carapace of Warrior 2, the Red Gore overlay over the Scab Red.

|8|9|10|

You can see the brighter edge near the edge of the plates, that's the change. I got the technique one how to do that shading out of a White Dwarf magazine, not sure which, but it works pretty well. I find it works better with an older, frayed brush, so you can get the independent lines going along it, works very well.

Edit: Also did the tongue, teeth, and eyes on Warrior 2, but I'll do pictures of that tomorrow.

Tongue, teeth, and eyes are done, photos.

I'll be working on the hooves and claws next.

Okay, Warrior 2 is done! *does a little dance*

13-15 are shots after the claws, hoofs, and deathspitter got their layering. 16-18 are after the inking went onto the joints and deathspitter. 19-22 are completed shots.

Damn straight it is. I like the red-black gradient shade on the carapace plates.

Thanks. Want me to post more details on how I did it when I do Warrior 3?

Okay. I kinda want to finish up this squad so I can work on my Hive Tyrant, had a good idea for a conversion... Granted, I also need to get some new primer to basecoat the thing; I always use the Testor's brand spray; just takes about 4 seconds to have a nice, even, dark coat. Works really well.
