Well, Asian horror films tend to play with the psychological aspects of the human mind and just go straight to the things that scare the ******** out of people. They take little aspects of daily life and twist them into believable horror situations.
American horror films are more like "Okay, here's some creepy monster/ serial killer guy that just keeps going and going." We focus more on monsters and boogeymen I guess.
What might possibly happen scare people more (in my opinion) than some invincible giant wielding a chainsaw.
That's probably why the re-makes aren't that scary because we turn the focus onto the monster instead of a story or anything to make you think "I never want to pick a phone up ever again."
