In anime, eyes are the key to the soul. If eyes change color, the character is either possessed, ready to snap, or is currently inhabited by an alter ego of some sort. A warning sign that this is about to happen is the shadowing of a characters eyes either by hair or a slight tilt of the head.

I can't believe that I didn't think of this before.
-The names of attacks must be shouted prior to being performed. If not, the attack will inevitably fail.

Along similar lines, the longer you power up/pose before performing your technique, the more powerful it will be.
