So I thought I'd share my "what I'm doing" with everyone, both the real and what I've actually done. I'm keeping track in a word file, but this is sort of nifty too. If I get around to finishing my pathways topic, I'll put it there too. Here's what I've done so far:
1 Jan: Spiritual Celebration of Beginnings ideas: After waking from the party, ritual bath and purification. Later in the day, spend quiet time with self, writing down goals for the year in some formal fashion. Meditate on these goals. Eat simply, and do everything deliberately on this day.
Actual: Just before midnight, I wrote down all my new years resolution in my paper spiritual journal, and then placed it on my altar. At midnight, I posted them to my livejournal. I spent the day with Nick’s family, and traveling. Being sick did not work well for most of my plans, but I did take one long relaxing bath. Eating simply didn’t happen, but I did strive to enjoy everything I ate, even if it was fast food.
9: Noumenia -- Gamelion (month of Marriage) Clean house, especially the bedroom, ritual purification. Clean and dust shrines and altars.
Ritual structure for libations Approach the altar Place image or symbols of the god/dess on the Altar Meditate on the god/dess Recite hymn or poetry Libate appropriate liquid Thank god/dess mediate for a few minutes again
12: Libation to Hera Use standard libation formula. Use Orphic Hymn to Hera. Decorate altar with peacock feathers.
Actual: Moved to the 9th, since I wouldn’t be home on the 12th. Invited nick with me. I had to stop him from teasing me, but I felt it was important for him to be there during a libation to Hera, for the goddess of Marriage, that I struggle to form a relationship with.
It was really odd, to feel his breathe behind me as I recited the Orphic Hymn to Hera, comforting and really making the libation feel real. Sometimes, when I do ritual with just myself, I feel like I’m playacting.
I’m going to work on having him participate, but that’ll come with time.
The libation went well, in all other respects. Nothing else out of the ordinary.
Tonight, I'm finishing doing some cleaning for the noumenia, as well as laundry, and preparing for Haloa tomorrow. Gonna be a long, but worth it day. I gotta go to the gym too! And cook dinner!

A short note about my Leneia. I shortened it to a single day when I could not get myself to connect to the material when spread out among the three days.
That helped immensely. I also had every intention of doing a fairly straightforward ritual, with some dancing.
Intentions going to the wayside seem to be a theme this week.
But the ritual was powerful, pulling together everything I had planned for the three days into one night. I started with a bath, which I meant to do purely for purification (I went swimming during work, and the ick wouldn't go away. Chlorine cannot be tasteful to the gods) which ended up in a pretty good ritual space itself.
It ended with dancing, and then it ended with a pretty clear, yet maddening message. "You have tasted, you must devour".

Wow Nuri! Looks like you have a lot of festival days. Are there any in particular you are looking forward to?

loona wynd Wow Nuri! Looks like you have a lot of festival days. Are there any in particular you are looking forward to? Anthesteria has always been one of my favorites...not to mention, I always remember right about where it is. This reminds me, I gotta spend some time doing prepwork this week for February.

Anthesteria makes me smile. At the end of the festival when they used to 'shoo' all the spirits away. xd

This seemed like the right place to ask as there weren't any other specific threads regarding holidays/sabbaths. I've seen several mentions of this in the ED about people taking holidays from "closed cultures", intentionally or not, for their own path, thus sparking the matter of intellectual honesty and such. But for one's particular path, how would you determine which holidays to celebrate? I'm (hopefully) not foolish enough to think there is a huge listing of generic Pagan holidays...is there?

Well, for me, there's a wealth of information on various greek city-state festival calendar (the most complete being the Athenian) that I started with. Other people have done a lot of leg work, and put out calendars with the dates on them. That was the first step. Then I added in festivals that other people have created, or decided that certain civic holidays had ritual importance too. If your community for your path is large enough, there are likely resources available, you just have to find them.

Nuri, I don't know how you people do it! I really need to start doing at least SOMETHING each month, even if it's just the Noumenia. Gah, I'm so lazy.

Every month where I've tried to do everything, something bad has happened. sad For Gamelion I ended up sick, and this month, I passed out and had to get six stitches above my left eye. Doctors still haven't figured out why. confused

Festival calendars still elude me. March just went by with me doing nothing, and so far April has only been a single libation to Artemis. I am camping this upcoming weekend, and I am thinking of sneaking off into the woods and doing something far more proper for Artemis and Dionysos. The gods in their wildplaces.
Interestingly enough, the libation and I did finally gave me a real point of contact with Artemis. Working in 8th grade gives me contact with a lot of girls on the cusp of real adulthood.
I'm thinking next years calendar will be vastly different, and will work on developing a regular practice.

That's neat. So- would you say that working in the fields that interest the gods brings their attention to you?

This month I FORGOT to celebrate noumenia. I mean it, I plain forgot.
It annoyed me a little actually because noumenia is one of my favourite festivals. It's my 'get your head together for next month' ritual and I clean my altar and everything. crying I do hekate's supper the day before too, thats always nice.
March went out of the window as far as festivals were concerned, even daily practice went a bit wobbly. So I took the time to realign myself spiritually and was going to do my noumenia ritual to make a clean break for this month. FAIL.
That said, despite me going off the rails as far as festivals are concerned, my daily practices are flourishing. I'm starting to look into traditional household practices too, so that even if I don't participate in big festivals; I'm close to my gods and my religion is intergrated into my daily life.
