I know exactly what you're talking about, and well i've learned that attention isn't really a need. I've become rather solitary lately, and its fine. But if you can't handle not getting all the attention you want, thats okay, just don't do anything that you'll regret later...

Find a hobby. Get something to keep you occupied. Seriously, it helps, and it makes a wonderful distraction. Hell, make your own clothes. Takes a little money for fabric, but even sewing it by hand is wonderful.
Not to mention you benefit from it, and it will keep you busy.
