I've been on Gaia almost since the beginning. Blundered onto it one day looking for anime sites....and been around a lot since...(with a break to grind Jedi on Star Wars Galaxies..)
I used to hide the fact I was a gamer at work because at the time, it had a very negative connotation in the Southern USA, and I was actually told to hide that by a job counselor...now, I wish I had come out of the closet at work, it might have taken a good deal of the pressure I felt there off.
Now, because of various disablities, I am on SSI and SSDI, and I find myself playing with all sorts of professionals on the MMO that I play...and they play from work!!! (this blows my mind, I've known people who have gotten sacked for checking email....!)....
And Witchipoo...I saw your handle and felt old...how many years has it been since Pufnstuf?

I'm SO glad there are people my age and older here... *waves* Hi, I'm Jasta, I live in Virginia in the USA and I'm going to be 51 in about two weeks. LOL! I've perfected the art of saying, when told I'm old, that it beats the alternative. The length of silence while that sentence is parsed usually is proportionate to the age of the commentator... smile
I found Gaia because my almost-35-year-old sweetie told me about it. It's a nice place to while away the down time... And I'm glad to be here with you all!
Cheers, Jasta

My wife tells me I'm to old for Gaia (36 years young), but I don't mind. She tried out the site herself for a month or two then quit it. I was told about the site by a nephew of mine. He thinks it's great his uncle is a gamer. I've been with Gaia since '04 with various accounts. Got mules for different guilds (rps & such) I'm in. xp

I don't worry about the ***** thing thing either, because I don't hide my age and don't hit on anybody. I don't pretend that I'm somebody I'm not and that's that. Yea, my partner ask me why I was hanging around at kids sites (also a member of Neopets) the answer is simple, when we first bought a computer and got connected to the internet, around 7 years ago, I wanted to make sure that those sites are save for my children and that they don't get scammed. I signed up for several of them (2 of my kids did the same a few weeks later) and I found that it was fun to go to those sites. Also I met many friend all around that way, saver then chat rooms and more fun if you ask me. It's great when you join a forum and meet others in your age bracket...lol Your happy to see them and they are happy to see you wink

Please don't feel sad. Just think about this: When this almost 54 year old wheels into the video store and ask for a PC game, whether it is a shooter or RPG, the 18 year olds they hire think I am cool.
My daughter introduced me to this site and what I think I am showing the younger folks is that it doesn't have to be a drag to get older. You can be just as much fun and just as good a friend as when you were say, 16.

One of the advantages of these "kid's sites" is that I get to meet people in my age bracket (I'm 43) who are still truly young at heart. Who like to have fun and play games and not take everything so deadly seriously all the time. Who have interests beyond schlepping kids to ballet and soccer and who believe those interests are important enough to make some time for them.
I'm not implying the older folks here are irresponsible or immature - goodness knows I also spend a lot of time taking care of the boring details of life. But folks who play here understand balance and make it happen in their lives.
And from day one here I chose NOT to hide my age. I am proud of being the age I am and still liking anime and dolls and toys and jumping in piles of leaves. And if other people don't like it, tough, it's not their life.
(And I'm really good at Taiko Drum Master on the PS2 and I'm asking for Guitar Hero for Christmas!)

Actually, I wonder why people consider this a kid's site.
If my memory is correct, this website was originally supposed to be a message board system for anime fans, then it somehow mutated into the community/game thing it is now. Age was never really a factor outside of keeping the site's content clean so anyone could be here.
The fact that this place is flooded with 15-year-olds doesn't mean much: The entire internet's like this. Never mind the anime fandom in general. From what I've seen, this is true for most large online communities.

Gaia makes me feel old almost everyday I'm on here. Since I am currently a guardian of a 15 year old (Who was the one who introduced me to the site in the first place) I message her and some of her friends once in a while. I just find it very funny when playing slots and the like people are either like, "ewwww, you are old!" or "wow, that is so cool". I just let it slide either way. It's a site for everyone, it just depends on how you choose to use it. rolleyes

first of all granny that butterfly sig is breathtaking heart I feel old and I am only 26 eeep! I have been on here since june 2003 and sometimes do feel made to think I am too old for a site like this. It is comforting to find people who don't judge the book by its cover like in this guild.

I too feel old on Gaia some days. My oldest son (now 21) use to talk about Gaia all the time. He kept saying that I would like it. And then when my youngest wanted to join - I told him he had to wait until he was 13 and then I would join with him. This was one of the first guilds I joined. smile
Completely relates to the Transformer incident.

On Gaia, as in real life, some days I feel old, and some days I feel young.. but I never hide my age, because it is not something to be ashamed of.

Yeah, some days it sure does. But other days, not so much.
I have some younger friends on Gaia, and two of my younger brothers post here too. However, the bulk of the people I hang out with hear are of legal drinking age. I just don't let the age thing bug me. Most times, I just laugh 'cause it's more funny then not... mrgreen

I only really feel old when I am in town and people are asking each other and sometimes me to cyber with them. I'm not here for that so I ignore them, but seriously, it's odd. I'm only 27 but I've been here since 2003 also. There was a huge break when I had to live with my mom (YAY! DIVORCE!) and she HATES the internet. She believes it should only be used for email. Idiot. She would scream at me "GET OFF THAT COMPUTER!"
Gotta run. I got up for a 5:30am snack and my six year old busted me and is demanding we play "Sorry."
Parenting makes me feel WAAAAAY old. ("Because I said so" and "I am doing this because I love you." The latter one is hard to explain. Six year olds don't get "I am putting you in time out because I don't want you to be a danger to yourself and others when you grow up and I am trying to teach you boundaries and things you need to know now.")
