<!-- One would think I could at least tell the Japanese apart from other Asians because I am into so much Japanese media, but I can't even do that, though I can somewhat tell if someone is Korean. Names help a lot too. Most people only ever guess that I am Chinese, and never that I am Indian. I have even been mistaken for Japanese before, but most people at my school are nice enough to ask what I am mixed with (because I am half Asian and half black) before jumping to conclusions.
I tried All Look The Same, and I fail it nearly every time. XDD-->

Definitely for the chinese is their height and eyes. Sometimes their hair as well, since most chinese girls at least have short hair. (I myself have long but I have some viet culture in me)
The viet girls are usually short I'd say.
Koreans I can definitely tell by their eyes.
As for the Filipinos, I think they look slightly hispanic. Or it might be because of the darker skin.

It's quite hard to tell every East/South East Asian ethnicity, but I can usually tell based on appearance who are Korean, Chinese, or Vietnamese, because I have a lot of friends of the three. As for other ethnicity, like Laotian, like myself, it's very hard to tell, though if I know their names, that could probably give me a good indication. Such as if they have the name Pao, I would guess they were Cambodian, or have a last name ending with "vong" in their last name, which is quite common in Laotian people, like my last name "Davannavong."

People always thought I was Japanese or Chinese. - . -;;; Only one person ever guessed that I was Korean xD And you can tell by the appearence usually....if you're familiar with Asian faces. Xp Most people think that Asians all look the same...I had a friend who came in from Korea for a little while, and people ask if we're related. - . -;
I only know how to tell apart Koreans! xD The eyes, skin, and height definently. Koreans are the tallest in Asia, most are as tall as Americans. o.o That's what my mom told me. xD Which means..I'm really really short by Korean standards. TT ____ TT

I can tell Chinese apart my heart Filipino's by noses, hair and lips Koreans by hair and skin tone Japanese are easier for me, seeing as I am Japanese. But on occasion, I'll run into a Native American and mistake him/her as the same ethnicity as myself.

Generally, I just use the overall appearance of the person's facial features. Of course, I can be wrong, because it's not like 100% of any population falls within the same physical categories.
