Somewhat. I have done quite a few performances of my own, and quite a few with other people. I actually traveled for a while as a traveling performer ^.^
Then again, i was never the girl who wears a skimpy outfit and gets sawed in half. I did more of the technical work, setup and design, coordination and directing. I was better than the magician, but few people want to see a female magician.

Mostly the assistants do the work anyways. -_-* I know a fair amount about some tricks... then again I was watching avidly when fox did those specials a while back where they gave away a few magic trick secrets. sweatdrop

Some half-bit nobody could do better than most of them. Blaine and Copperfield are the worst of the bunch. When it comes down to ability and talent, the best are almost always in small venues. I guess once you get bigger there is less need for ability and more need for "performance." Anymore magic is all about the looks. (Penn and Teller are pretty cool though.)

I think we scared everyone else off. ^^*
I've enjoyed a few different types of magicians over the years. I think it's intersting to watch people's reactions in the "Stree magic" special Blaine did. Copperfield did some pretty big things back in the day, but... well he really just hasn't done anything note-worthy as of late. Even if it is mostly just digital effects now... he had to work before CG became a comonplace occurance.
Penn and Teller are pretty good. I haven't seen anything with them in a little while though.

I think my biggest problem with Blaine is his "levitation" trick. I can have no respect for him after that. Copperfield's bigger things were all just hoaxes really. Then again, almost all of the big tricks are nowadays. I hate the stupid tricks they show on television where they make some big object (like a tank) vanish, as there is no skill in those tricks. Sadly enough, even circuses are going downhill. Television is killing the performing arts. (I think they just do not like you.)

I have to agree that mainstream society has taken too much away from the showmanship that used to be illustrated by the stage performances of magicians and comedians. It looses something when there is no varience or change.

Or when magicians become nothing more than performers. Look at all of the instances where they showed something large "vanish" on television. Do you know how they did that? They rotated the set, and everybody there was in on it.
That is not magic.

Those do annoy me now that I know how they are done. -_-* I would much rather see something with at least a bit more ingenuity than that.

I would rather see someone get an colonoscopy than that.
I think my favorite magicians are the little kids who have been doing it for a couple months. They are usually so much more fun to watch.

They are usually so much more fun to watch. I like anyone who can still bring wonder and awe into the faces of children when they can't figure out how a trick was done. I even did a little bit of prestidigitation in front of a mirror no less for a little while to entertain children. Nothing huge mind you, but enough to at least perhaps help a few children get that spark of wonder... I'm exhuasted tonight, so I think I'm going to wander off to sleep. *Waves* it was fun talking about magic with you. I hope your ear feels better soon (if it hasn't cleared up yet). Take care.
