For the most part, the place didn’t look abandoned; there were various individuals dressed in mining outfits walking in and out from the mining shaft located in the back of the gym. It was still kind of odd that someone had thought that a good idea; did the mining shaft run all the way under the building or something? That seemed even more dangerous. Lafayette really hadn’t thought about it the first time he challenged the place but being back a second time he was able to really think about it.

Unfortunately, Roark wasn’t available. He wasn’t even around. It appeared a pretty hefty discovery had been found and he was the lead on it, spending his entire time on it for now. Lafayette but nodded all the same to the individual who informed him of the situation and when he could check back if he was really interested in challenging the gym. Not that he was, he was just looking but all the same, he turned and headed back out to locate his pokemon. Noah and Cheri weren’t too far off, having located a yellow egg. He snagged it up and looked it over, before tucking away and heading off to the next place.

The Aerodactyl flew a long ways away before finally growing tired, circling down by a mountain where there was a city nestled nearby. Gavyn had by far surpassed the point of screaming - he was too tired and busy trying not to lose his glasses. Aerodactyl set her trainer down first before touching down herself, satisfied with the flight. Gavyn immediately collapsed to the ground, legs shaking. Merlin floated down to stand beside his companion, giving him a pat on the back. "Great flight, huh Gavy? It's fine. She was just excited to be outside again." Merlin explained while the prehistoric beast grumbled, crawling around on the ground to check things out.
Gavyn caught his breath, on his hands and knees on the ground. The trip was dizzying, and would have probably been more comfortable if he had been on the Aerodactyl's back, but he felt a bit exhilarated from the unexpected trip. "I am well. Um... oh dear... uh, what about Darren?" Gavyn replied, moving to get back on his feet. Merlin already had the communication device in his little pink hands. "Don't worry about him, Gavy. I'll let him know we landed just fine." the clefairy stated, already tapping in the message and sending it off to Darren.
Aerodactyl, satisfied with her surroundings, made her way back to Gavyn, giving him an expectant look. "W-what is it?" he asked the beast as she came to a stop right before him, crouched low to sniff at him. "I think she's expecting a name, Gavy. I'd suggest Terra, but she already told me no." the clefairy interjected. "Hmm... she is a fossil pokemon... uh... How about Amber?" Gavyn asked the aerodactyl. She seemed to lower her head in acceptance, and Gavy reached out and pat her head with a shaky hand.

He understood that to Yukie her red hair was nothing short of an expression of her sense of freedom. If the roots needed to be dyed again, it was like a remember her freedom was always under fire. She'd get pretty grumpy if it wasn't dealt with soon. Yukie was pulling her hair back up and into a pony tail to hide the roots when Verka stopped her by running his fingers through her hair ruining her work. Yukie lashed out with a snarling expression. "What the s**t!" Verka had expected nothing less so he ignored the abuse. "Let it go back to its natural color, for me? I want to see what you look like naturally." Yukie froze. Her eyes darting back and forth between his face and the sliver of hair hanging in front of her face. Yukie wasn't sure of herself or how to respond to his request but submitted to the request.
"O- Ok." She muttered submissively Looking to Riley blushing. She was embarrassed but wasn't sure why. Riley had figured out they were a couple. Not that either of them tried to hide the fact really. But she wondered how she'd treat them if she found out their secrets? Yukie sure as hell wasn't about to bring the subject up. Maybe she was just embarrassed that she'd openly submitted to her "significant other". Yukie internally analyzed her emotional state trying to understand why she was feeling this way. It eventually struck her. She felt embarrassed because he could expose her for the fake she was. All the aggressiveness was just a front for the scared child inside. Verka was the only person able to peel back that facade. Worse still. he could do it anytime he wanted and he knew it now.
Thankfully Verka didn't intend to herp her further or make a game of toying with her feelings on the matter. "Yeah Yukies a glutton for punishment. I can't count all the injuries she's gotten since we met." Yukie didn't realize she'd begun to lean into his chest until just then. Quickly pushing back slapping his hand off her head which had been scratching her scalp. "Get off me!" She snapped but clearly any damage was done. Verka chuckled but let her go. "You tell anyone I let him treat me like this and ill rip out your tongue!" Yukie threatened, reforging her inner fires of defiance. "Can't stop me." Verka countered coming to Riley's defense wicking to the younger girl to say "I've got your back".
"Better play nice Yuks." Yukie cringed hearing that nick name used on her. "Your a c**t." She muttered under her breath. Even the king wasn't this controlling! "I heard that." Yukie bit her lower bit feeling utterly defeated but didn't attempt to get the last word in. Verka knew her far too well, he could turn her into mush, build her up, or embarrass her to death. It was best not to provoke him. It felt so weird thinking like that. Even the King could control her like this. The king~ Yukie could feel a panic attack building. "Verka." She muttered leaning back into him closing her eyes pulling at his jacket/vest. "Can you carry me please." Her voice was soft and relaxed. It had lost all its fire and brimstone. "I don't feel good.' Without a word and in one fluid motion Verka scooped Yukie up into his arms where she clung to him suffocating the emotional flood.
"Hey Riley, you've been here before. Can you lead the way to the Gym." Verka asked knowing full well what was wrong with Yukie. He just didn't want to bring it up in front of Riley. Yukie, nuzzling the male's neck taking a moment to regain her calm opened her eyes again. The gym. How was she going to take this gym leader on anyway? The question helped get her mind of the King and her past and the possibility he'd return to make her his puppet again. "What type of Pokemon do they train?" Yukie asked with a soft voice feeling Ekans slither from around her neck to wrap itself around her legs.

Riley was so busy exploding on the inside ( I knew it they're sooo together! ) that she didn't register what Verka was saying properly. She came back to her senses to find Yukie giving her an embarrassed look, and Riley brightened as she remembered what Verka said. "You dye your hair? That's so cool! What's your natural color?" Was that rude to ask? Riley didn't know. She'd always thought dying her hair would be cool, but honestly she liked her plain brown. And a part of her thought that she'd never be able to pull it off.
There was also something odd there, something about the way Yukie agreed so readily to Verka's request. Riley was still trying to piece together how the two's relationship worked, and this was a big part for the puzzle... of course, it was like trying to put together a puzzle where the colors kept shifting. When Yukie in a return to form smacked Verka's hand away before threatening Riley, it was all the girl could do but keep from giggling. It was classic Yukie, she thought to herself. "Oh yeah?" Riley stuck out her tongue, as if challenging Yukie to leap out and make good on her promise right there and then. "Just like I shouldn't mention you two and last night?" Riley was only able to joke about it because they'd already told her nothing happened, but what she was implying was unmistakable. She got ready to jump away before she said the next bit. "And how you spooooooned~" She was making it up, she hadn't looked down at the bottom bunk last night, but...Yukie didn't know that.
It was odd, but Yukie fell back into that quietness, where she accepted Verka's help. In this case she even asked for it, surprising Riley again as she requested, herself, to be carried. Riley's eyes darted to Yukie's ankles, but it didn't seem like it was because she had hurt herself. Concerned, but not really sure what was up, Riley consented to lead the way. "Are you... " She trailed off. She would've asked if Yukie was sure she didn't want to rest, but decided to trust her and Verka. They knew more about Yukie's illness than Riley did.
As Riley led them through the streets she released Seul, both for his company and to be sure she was going the right way. At the end of one long street was the familiar curve of the museum's roof, that place where she had confronted Mael. Despite it being where she had won Noel and Nima back, it made her shiver.
"Roark trains rock pokemon," Riley explained, curious to see Yukie battle against an opponent she had faced herself. "He has a cranidos, a fossil pokemon and pure rock, and an onix and geodude." She smiled, remembering her own battle where Mochi, Noel and Nima had helped her come out on top. When it came into view, the gym brought with it warm memories. "Here it is." Riley let out Mochi so they could look on it together. "Do you remember, Mochi? This was where we had our first gym battle." The infernape craned her neck to look up at the gym with eyes filled with a spark. How could she forget? Her first gym battle... she flexed her fingers, just remembering the thrill of the challenge. She looked to Riley, and what was in her eyes was unmistakable. "Sorry Mochi, we're not here to battle. We're here for Yukie." Mochi twisted, noticing Yukie and Verka for the first time. She raised a hand in greeting, despite being disappointed.

Riley heard Yukie's voice raise and glanced at her and Verka. Apparently she was feeling better. That was good. She smiled to herself as Yukie pushed into the gym, relieved that she was acting like herself. She'd been a little worried there, but whatever it was seemed over. Riley supposed she could ask Yukie about it later, but now wasn't the time. "C'mon Verka, I think the seats are over here..." Riley and Mochi made their way way to a bench along the wall where they could watch the battle. "It's weird, sitting over here and watching," she mused, half to herself. The field looked so different from the side, and watching a battle happen from the sidelines felt odd to her. She wondered if Roark remembered her. Mochi lounged at her side with one foot over her knee, noting the experience as odd as well but curious to watch.
Riley felt bad for Roark at first, because the type advantage of water attacks was really hard to deal with. When Cranidos came out was when it got interesting...but supersonic did its job well. Riley grinned to see a golbat take out his Cranidos. Zeke had helped her out in her own battle, though he'd been a zubat back then. "Congrats, Yukie!" she said when it was over. "I knew you could do it, easy."

Bris should have easily swept Roark's whole team but that weird rock type, the Cranidos, was just too fast. Not the mention Bris was already pretty badly beaten from the first two rounds. She could count the match as a tactical win none the less because had it not been for the Eviolite Bris held onto the match would have been much different. "Good work, Bris." Yukie said scooping the Wooper up into her arms where it cuddled into her chest. Quls had slid on over towards Verka and Riley. Yukie wasn't about to touch it so instead gave it an affirming nodded. The Grimer was used to its trainers reluctant to have physical contact with it so there were no hard feelings between them.
Collecting her prize Yukie stuffed the TM and Badge into her bag, having no pockets on the sun dress, and rounded back on Riley who was first to congratulate her on the victory. She shrugged giving a confused smiled. "It's not that impressive." She remarked glancing to Verka awaiting his praise. But none came, yet. He wasn't upset, was he? "Hey dip stick, nothing to say?" Verka smirked and stepped off the pews riffling her hair and heading towards the door. "I'll congratulation you when I see you put forth some effort. Your Pokemon did well though." Yukie's jaw dropped slightly. "Did he~ just sassy me?" She asked Riley in shock. "Woopa?" Bris cooed attempting to get Yukie to scratch its belly. Yukie obliged absentmindedly.
Verka was first out the door waiting for the girls to catch up. "So I get nothing for winning my second gym badge?" Yukie asked in honest disbelief. Verka sight and took a moment to gather his thoughts before replying. "I've watched you take trainers down with Pokemon twice as powerful as your own. You've beat Diana, a battle tower vet and took down three trainers semitonally! Im not impressed with challengless bought." Verka's voice, it wasn't mad or disappointed or even frustrated. He was just being honest, dead honest. "O~ Oh." Yukie stammered coming to face the fact she wasn't going to get the attention she wanted this time, but it was ok. He was right. That battle was a cake walk compared. "Im proud of you though, Your starting to look less like a thug and little more like a trainer." Verka propped Yukies checks.
Yukie didn't move or say anything but the apathetic expression she gave and the awkward "please help" look to Riley was seemingly enough to get Verka off her face. "I guess we're at miss Rileys whim's now." Verka said motioning to the youngest of the trio. Yukie, looking over her shoulder to the girl tried not to ask but it was eating her up on the inside. Verka's cheeky response to Yukie's search for a comment on her battle was surprising. But Riley couldn't help quipping, "I think he did. It's like you're rubbing off on him." But inside, she was trying to decipher what Verka had meant by it... was it veiled praise, or a joke, or was he serious? She just couldn't tell. "Well I think you did pretty good. And if it wasn't hard enough there's always the next gym," she added somewhat mischievously. "And the next one, and the next one..."
But as they caught up to Verka and he explained further, she found herself getting a little annoyed. It's not like Verka was wrong that maybe Yukie had faced tougher opponents, but that was no reason to belittle a gym battle. "Well, it was two to three, so it's not like it was that close," she felt she had to say. "Overcoming a single strong pokemon like cranidos isn't nothing." But Riley didn't really push it further than that, since she didn't know Yukie's past and her battle against Diana had been very intense.
Riley caught a laugh though when Verka commented about Yukie looking less like a thug. She was reminded of her initial impression of Verka and Yukie which had been a little guarded. Compared to now, where she thought the idea of Yukie as a "thug" pretty funny. She lost a bubble of laughter though when Yukie looked to her, eyes pleading for help. Then she was the one looking for help, as Verka said what they did next was up to her. Uhhhh. She actually wasn't sure herself. When Yukie asked to stay the night, Riley jumped at the idea. She could decide on what to do before tomorrow. "Yeah, of course!" Even if she hadn't wanted to stay, Yukie's emphatic plea wasn't one she could have ignored. "Besides, it'd be good to heal your pokemon," she added. She knew just the way to the pokemon center too, since she'd gone right there after her own gym battle.

It was an act of tough love in his mind. He couldn't praise Yukie for every tiny thing she did "right" otherwise her craving for attention would blow out of control. He'd seen that side of her and knew how not to play into it. Yukie would latch onto any tiny thing and bleed it dry if it made her feel good about herself. He waited until They made it to the Pokemon center, while Yukie was healing her tired Pokemon before saying anything. "I didn't mean to upset you if that's what that was back there." He began. "Yukies got some ~ issues, to work through." He emphasized the word "issues" "She did good, but I can't feed into her "needs" too much." Another emphasized word. "I hope you can understa~" A phone began to ring cutting Verka off. Yukie turned hearing the ring tune but didn't think much of it, for now. "I'll catch up,"
It wasn't until after dinner that Verka popped back up again finding Yukie and Riley in a bedroom they'ed gotten for the night. Yukie was sat in the corner going through her bag and pulling out her bathroom things. She'd apparently release the vast majority of her team save Meowth, Mukrow and Grimer, for good reasons. "Yukie we need to talk." Yukie waved the male off, figurative and literally. "Ok so talk?" She was too busy with her hunt for a combo to really care. "Now!" The shift in tune caught the red heads attention, as well as most of her Pokemon. "My brothers sick, im going to go see him before he goes in for surgery so im going to need to leave you for a little while." Yukie shoved her bag away standing. "But!~" Verka's hands were up to silence her. "I know but this is important. I have to go!." Yukie was blind to anything else going on in the room. It took a second but eventually, she nodded. "Yea, ok ill be fine." Verka didn't waste time to goodbyes, he simply grabbed his bag before stepping in to kiss Yukies forehead. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Just keep me informed ok?" Yukie nodded in silence. She understood. "Come back?""Promise~'
After Verka's departure, Yukie took a noticeable shift in personality. She became quieter and far less "out going" in how she acted. Going from someone who drew attention to her to a much meeker version of herself. Hardly saying a word but to confirm she was ok to her Rattata and Hoppip who noticed the change first. "Hey Riley, im going for a shower~" The depression was thick in her voice as she gathered her things and locked herself in the room leaving her Pokemon to pester Riley and hers. As was normal Yukie habit, it was the better part of an hour before the water turned off and the shower doors could be heard sliding open. In the mean time, Abra had taken to taunting Sneasel by teleporting around the room always keeping out of reach, but cat calling and making faces at the Dark-type. Litwick made a failing attempt to halt the growing tension between them being Yukies most powerful Pokemon but had to luck.
As the doors swing open and Yukie stepped out, a towel wrapped around her hair, dressed in a baggy white night gown with matching knee length shorts. Abra suddenly teleported direction in front of her and she just barely stopped from tripping over it before it teleported again. "Hey watc~" Sneasel in that same split second lunged for an Abra who was already gone, instead finding herself making impact on Yukies Nether region. The pain was instant and Sneasal gasped realizing its mistake coming to its trainer's aid but Yukie was already in the fetal position holding her groin on the floor nearly in tears. All of Yukies Pokemon seemed to cringe, especially Abra, Wooper and Bidoof. Yukie couldn't speak, just make a pained grunt like gasping sound as she retired to push past the pain.
