((Good soundtrack choice ;3 I’m using it to help me write))
Now that she and Oliver were set on their goal all they had to do was see it fulfilled. As Oliver laced his fingers with hers she looked down at his hand and then up at him with those empty white eyes, as glazed and as calm as ever.
Just as she turned and was about to set out the two of them heard the sound of clapping coming from behind them. Anna abruptly turned around to see who was there wondering how anyone could have snuck into the room without either of the two noticing. Were they so distracted with the history of their past that they failed to notice they were being watched? She felt uneasy about this black scientist and these two lackies in suits and guns in their hands, she’d had guns pointed at her before but she could at least use her powers, underground in the desert wasn’t an ideal place for plants to grow.
Oliver did all the talking and questioning while Anna was trying to formulate a way out. The room was far too small and it was way too easy for them to get shot in no matter where they ran. Oliver wasn’t trained to control the wind and so he wouldn’t understand the limits of his abilities. When he tried to attack the black scientist who called himself ‘Dr. Smith’ he put up a sort of barrier and blocked the attack. He seemed so casual and calm...did he know they were coming? Did Magneto tell him? And why was he threatening them with guns...Anna hid behind Oliver while watching the good scientist and his lackies trying to hide her gaze – this was all too convenient.
This man knew everything about them, it was probably all his fault that they ended up this way, he talked down to them like they were just experiments. But no matter how much anger or contempt bottled up inside her chest that made her feel empty, she felt she needed to know more than what she already knew from Magneto.
Their choices of escape were very slim considering Anna couldn’t use her powers. She’d never felt so useless when she stood beside Oliver when they were in situations like this. She wasn’t used to being protected by others.
Dr. Smith offered to release them if they were allowed to run experiments or kill them on the spot. Anna’s hand was trembling, what was she going to do? She couldn’t just let this facility continue to run experiments on more children, then again if they left and told the Professor he might be able to do something...but that would risk the Professor being angry at them for leaving in the first place, and what about her deal with Magneto? In exchange for the information she offered up herself in return, but there was nothing in their verbal contract saying she’d be in danger...They really had no choice in the matter. Be killed on the spot or experimented on and be set free where she’d probably walk into another trap. But at least this way Oliver would be safe from any evil plans Magneto had.
“We have to do it...” Anna whispered while standing behind Oliver gently clutching his back, her hand trembling but her voice unwavering from its usual calm emotionless tone. “They’ll kill us if we don’t and I don’t know what else to do...” her voice may have been calm but her hand was trembling most likely with fear.

Fingers of fear clutched Oliver's throat. He became acutely aware of Anna's presence behind him, of her trembling body and her breath on the back of his neck. He stared at the guns pointing directly at the two of them, and he knew he'd have to give in. Much as he wanted to resist and defiantly tell this man who had ruined his life from birth that he would rather die than go along with his plans to ruin even more lives...he had Anna's fate to think of, and he wasn't about to let harm come to her.
So he took a deep breath instead, and glared murderously into Dr. Smith's eyes. "All right, we agree to your conditions. Let's get this over with."
And so began the worst few hours of Oliver's life. Copperstone seemed filled with scientists again, as though they had all come back from a mass lunch break, and without further ado more armed scientists led the two mutants back to the lab they had just left. First they just took blood samples and ran ordinary medical check-ups. If Dr. Smith hadn't been watching the read-out on a large computer screen off to the side, Oliver might almost have been able to relax.
But then they began to run tests more focused on their powers. They seemed well aware of each of their powers, and brought in a potted plant - a real one this time - for Oliver to work with. But Anna was sitting on the second operating table that they had wheeled next to Oliver's, so they were too close to make it work.
Dr. Smith seemed obsessively interested in this phenomenon of their shared powers. He repeatedly had them move farther away and closer together, demonstrating how weak or strong their powers were. Oliver grew more and more irritated and impatient to be away from the scientists' probing questions, but he was constantly aware of the armed scientists guarding the exit and training their rifles on the two subjects. He knew he would have to abide by Dr. Smith's demands if they were to make it out alive.
Finally Dr. Smith came up to them, looking positively gleeful. "All right, then. One more test and we should have all the results we need." He gestured to one of his assistants, who handed him a syringe filled with a pinkish substance. The other assistants pushed Anna's bed to the side and pushed on Oliver's shoulders to lay him flat on his back, beginning to strap him in with the leather restraints they'd noticed before.
"Wait, what are you going to do?" Oliver asked, fear jabbing him in the stomach.
"Nothing to worry about," Dr. Smith said calmly, advancing with the syringe. "Now that you're 'genetically responsive,' as it were, we must observe the effects of another's genes being presented to your DNA."
Oliver stared up at him while the assistants buckled the last strap down so he couldn't move an inch. He could barely comprehend what Dr. Smith had said, but he said weakly, "Another's genes? Whose?"
"Anna's, of course." Oliver started, making his bed creak, but the eager scientist continued. "Previous trials have led to mutations rendering the subject incapable of survival, but you two have already proven compatible. You have, after all, been injected with each other's genes since birth."
Now Oliver was too stunned to even attempt to resist; he barely even noticed what Dr. Smith was doing until he swiped Oliver's arm with an alcohol swab. Then Oliver tried to reach out for the air around him, or the plant still sitting in its pot on the table in the corner, or anything that could help him, but Dr. Smith boredly signaled the guards, who advanced on Anna. Oliver immediately fell still, and Dr. Smith held up a hand. The guards stopped, but stood menacingly close to Anna.
Defeated, Oliver lay still and locked his gaze with Anna's. He had no idea what this was going to do to him, but he had a feeling he wouldn't like it.
((Sorry if I'm putting the spotlight on Oliver too much sweatdrop I don't want it to seem like Anna is just passive this whole time, but I also want to move the action forward because I'M EXCITED!!!!!! 8D))

((I don’t mind one bit ;3 as long as you don’t mind when Anna goes away with Magneto and does whatever XDDDD and you could have I dunno gotten them to hold her back and strap her down or something. You’re excited! LOL I feel bad that I can’t do anything cause you’re the one controlling anything))
And so Oliver and Anna agreed to Dr. Smith’s terms.
It wasn’t easy. Anna and Oliver were separated by scientists to be tested on. Blood tests, physicals, ordinary medical check-ups, they even noted down Anna’s strange mental behaviour and strange personality traits as well as the change in her eyes. It was very strange that she was the only one affected while Oliver was or seemed perfectly normal. Anna was very compliant with the tests. She didn’t speak unless spoken to, she avoided the gaze of the scientists unless she was told to look at them, and was unattached...emotionally to all of this, at least that’s what she wanted to convince herself.
Finally when the scientists began running tests on their powers that’s when Anna got a bit nervous. Dr. Smith obviously didn’t know about the phenomenon that occurred between their powers, especially when Anna was in the room on the operating table, looking at Oliver waiting to see what would happen next. Her eyes almost never left him, and the scientists noted that. Of course security was brought in, in case she tried to make a break for him or something. When Dr. Smith realized this he was utterly fascinated and treated the two like guinea pigs, moving them closer together or pulling them apart to see the change in their powers. The only thing Anna didn’t think he realized was that they had the ability to use each other’s powers...
It was down to the last test and they’d be free. Was that really it? That was all they wanted? Then the doctor was handed a syringe with a pink liquid while others began strapping Oliver down to the operating table. Anna was about to oppose this, questioning why she wasn’t being strapped down like he was but instead she was forced back, keeping a distance from Oliver with guards there to ‘incapacitate’ her should she resist. When the Doctor explained to Oliver what the process was, Anna’s white eyes almost widened and she did something that the scientists would dually note.
“STOP IT PLEASE YOU’LL KILL HIM!”
She cried out while assistants grabbed her by the arms and pulled her back, restraining her so she wouldn’t be able to use her powers or if she could help it his. She was desperate...if he was injected with her genes he could possibly die. Even if they’d done it in the past it’d been more than 10 years since they stopped. Oliver’s body might be unstable and wouldn’t be able to handle the process...it was unlikely he’d survive. The human body wasn’t meant to hold more than two strands of DNA woven together, and now he was trying to add two more...she didn’t think even mutants could handle this sort of process. She tried to resist but was barely given any space, the guards advanced towards her, ready to do whatever means necessary to calm her down just to prove a point. Anna’s gaze was once again locked with Oliver’s. This feeling that she’d felt this entire time, a feeling she’d finally be able to relate to, was fear. The fear she’d lose the one person she’d come to care about and who’d come to care about her in return. She hated this feeling despite it being a feeling at all. She wanted to experience all of it, more of it, everything...but she didn’t want to do it alone. If she looked away she was afraid she’d miss it and something would happen to Oliver. She was scared...for both of them.

Dr. Smith didn't seem to hear Anna's plea, lowering the syringe to Oliver's exposed skin. Oliver tried to pull away, but the leather straps held his arm still and he could do nothing. He felt the p***k of the needle, but kept his eyes on Anna. If he was going to die, he wanted her to be the last thing he saw. He felt the needle pull back out of his skin, and swallowed nervously. Soon, whatever was in that syringe would find its way to his heart, and from there get pumped all through his body.
He wished he could hold Anna's hand as he faced the unknown, but she was halfway across the room. So he ignored the scientists bustling about the room, and called to her, "I love you."
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, he felt his heart increase its pace. At first it just felt like the effects of a caffeine rush, but soon pain shot through every nerve in his body. He was vaguely aware of people rushing around, talking, attaching various instruments to his body, but he just bit his lip against the pain and rising nausea and kept gazing at Anna. He became aware that his limbs were twitching, and someone stuffed something between his teeth. Then everything hazed over into darkness.
----------
When Oliver opened his eyes again, he couldn't remember ever feeling worse in his life. He was slimy with sweat, his stomach churned, and there was a bitter taste in his mouth. But he was alive. He supposed that was the most important part.
Gradually, he became aware of his surroundings. He was in the same room, lying in the same bed. As far as he could tell, only minutes had passed; Anna was still sitting on her bed and the scientists were still scurrying about and reporting the readouts on various screens around them.
Dr. Smith bent over him, looking quite pleased with himself. "Experiment successful, as I knew it would be. You coughed up blood and your muscles seized up, but such is to be expected. You will probably not notice any difference, because I have only replaced one of your recessive genes with one dominant gene of hers."
Oliver flicked his gaze over to Anna in confusion. "Wait..." he said sluggishly, still feeling sick. "Don't tell me that's what you've been doing all this time."
Smiling indulgently, Dr. Smith said, "Precisely. I'm glad you caught on so quickly. Our only hope was to mutate your genes to their optimal formation, by replacing all your recessive genes with Anna's dominant ones. And vice versa, of course, to make a full investigation. But I think we can dispense with that now; we have enough samples of her DNA that now she is expendable."
"Tut tut. Not very scientific of you."
Dr. Smith whirled around, and Oliver raised his head as far as he could. Standing in the doorway were several of the teachers, surrounding Xavier himself. The Professor sat calmly in his wheelchair, but all the scientists' guns were already floating in a corner of the ceiling, far out of reach, while the scientists looked momentarily stunned.
"Now, let my students go free, or we will use force."
((Now all hell can break loose twisted And, um...do you think Xavier is the kind of guy who would say 'tut, tut'? sweatdrop ))

((I am happy to say I am no longer a teenager as of today ;3 MWAHAHHA Hell will break loose. I wonder if Magneto cares that his facility will probably be destroyed...>.> and I don’t think he’d say ‘tut tut’ but something along those lines yes : ) ))
Even while Anna was watching she could feel her heart racing in her chest. She tried to avoid looking at the syringe and focus on Oliver. Her eyes steadily locked with his while she was still being restrained back to her bed. This wasn’t fair. Trading his life away for hers, this wasn’t how it was supposed to be, Magneto promised her they’d be safe...But here she was, struggling to break free and reach out to him. With all the hustling and bustling going around with the monitors and guards poking her with their guns, she kept her eyes locked with his watching as he called out to her...
“I love you.”
This couldn’t be the end. It wasn’t supposed to end like this. Anna stopped struggling and mouthed back to him, “I love you too.”
Her heart was racing, tears were swelling up in her eyes, please let this be a bad dream, just wake yourself up like you always do, wake up back in your dorm room with Oliver beside you and forget this ever happened. Just as she mouthed her words to him he began shaking and twitching nervously. She’d never seen him or anyone in such pain before....she couldn’t imagine what that was like, she couldn’t even feel her insides or move or breathe anymore. As much as she couldn’t stand seeing him in this pain Oliver did his best to keep his eyes focused on her and she too understood. If he was going to die he wanted her to be the last thing he saw, not some stupid scientists that ruined their life, but the girl he loved, and of course Anna felt the same way as well. She did her best to keep her eyes on him, determined not to look anywhere else or listen in on any of the scientists tumbling about. Everything around them just didn’t seem to matter anymore and her world only consisted of him and his eyes.
Finally, after just a few brief minutes he broke their gaze and closed his eyes.
“NO! NO!!!” Anna practically shot off the bed and thrashed against the guards, beating and wailing at them trying to get through to Oliver. Tears were almost streaming down her cheeks, her eyes glazed with tears, but she wouldn’t allow herself to cry...
“When you’re done...I’d suggest you sit down and wait a few minutes before you throw a tantrum.” Dr. Smith instructed while the guards finally restrained her once again and sat her down on the bed as the doctor went over the results with the other scientists...Anna sitting quietly, keeping her eyes on Oliver to wait and see what he meant...did he know something?
Just as he’d suspected a few minutes later, which ended up being the longest few minutes of her life, Oliver opened his eyes again.
Anna was so relieved, she felt as if she could breathe again. It felt as if a piece of her heart had returned to her when she saw him open his eyes. She just wanted to get up and hold his hand and make sure he was still him, but she knew the guards surrounding her wouldn’t let her move more than a foot away from the bed.
While Oliver and Dr. Smith were discussing what was happening between the three of them she failed to notice the guards around the room were being disarmed by an invisible force that made its presence aware only moments later. The Professor and some of the other teachers from Xavier’s school stood around him at the entrance to the room, all the guards’ guns floating just out of their reach.
“Professor!”
Anna was more surprised than excited to see him. He must have known all along where they were going...after all he had Cerebro...it must have taken him and the others this long to track the pair of them down. Given all the excitement and distractions Anna was able to push through the unarmed guards and make her way over to Oliver, loosening his restraints and helping him sit up. She was sure all would be well now, other than the lecturing they’d both get from Xavier about listening to his instructions...but that wasn’t the important part right now.
She wrapped her arms around Oliver’s warm and clammy body. She held him like her favourite toy doll. She was afraid she’d lost him...afraid she’d never look into his eyes again, afraid they’d be apart after finding out so much and going through so much together. She knew that she’d never have this sort of connection with anyone else ever again.
“I don’t think they deserve the opportunity to surrender Charles, after what’s happened here I think we should just shut down the facility all together and take these two home where they belong.” Emma said coming up beside the Professor in her white X-Men uniform ready to trash all the computers and information they had on those two.
((Wasn't sure if you wanted me to be Smith or what you wanted him to do))

((Happy Birthday! ...a few days late sweatdrop ))
"Agreed," Xavier said calmly, folding his hands in his lap as though he was sitting by a cozy fireplace. "Don't kill anyone."
As though that was a signal, chaos broke out in the room as the teachers rushed the scientists who were now defenseless. Dr. Smith seemed to be the only mutant among them; he immediately threw up his bubble-like shield, absorbing the red beam of energy that shot his way. He tried to make a run for it, but one of the guns Xavier was holding up high in the air tilted downward slightly. A shot rang out, the bullet piercing through Dr. Smith's shield and into his leg. The man fell down with a scream, clutching his bloody leg, and the shield disappeared. Soon he had his arms and legs tied, so even if he created his shield again, it wouldn't do him any good.
The rest of the scientists, being normal humans, were easy to round up, and soon the teachers sent them marching back to the surface, hands tied securely behind their backs.
Meanwhile, Oliver had been trying to master himself, but had been unable to do much more than breathe and rest in Anna's arms. He had never felt so weak in his life, but it was over now...it was all over. He wasn't strong enough to access Anna's powers, but it seemed that was unnecessary anyway, so he just smiled wearily at Anna and slung his arm around her shoulders. "M-Maybe...that's why I can use your powers, but you can't use mine...." He closed his eyes briefly, fighting down a new wave of nausea.
Xavier was at the foot of the bed when Oliver opened his eyes. "Are you all right?" the old man asked with genuine concern. Oliver bit his lip and nodded, expecting a severe scolding. But all Xavier said was, "Can you walk? We need to get you two to safety."
"I think..." Oliver summoned his strength and swung his legs over the side of the bed. "I think I can make it...if Anna helps me."
His legs shook under him as he tried to stand, but Anna took his weight and together they somehow managed to walk through the halls. Xavier followed their slow progress, so he could help them if they fell. The walk back out to freedom seemed to take forever, but Oliver relished it despite his weakness and how much he just wanted to lie down again. Anna was there, and they were alive, and that was all that mattered.
Of course, he reconsidered when he got to the surface and saw that they were surrounded by Magneto and his men. "Erik!" Xavier exclaimed when the three of them emerged under the blazing sun.
"Now, now," Magneto said calmly. "You needn't be afraid that I would try another attack on you so soon. We'll be on our way shortly; I was in the neighborhood and thought I would drop by. I have a little deal to settle with Miss Roads."
Oliver looked at her in surprise. "What's he talking about?"

((Awww well thank you anyway <3 ))
Everything happened so fast it was a little unbelievable to watch. How did the Professor even find them, and would he be mad with them for leaving the school even though he specifically told them not to. She sat with Oliver, holding him close to her, arms draped around him protectively like she was holding a child. As she held him and watched the others fight for them, Oliver tried to speak and explain why he was able to tap into her mutant abilities but she wasn’t able to use his when they were close together. Maybe she wasn’t injected with enough of his genes...or her body just rejected it. “Shh, stop talking, you don’t need to explain anything to me.” She said calmly and quietly, still holding Oliver to her.
Even though the Professor specifically told Emma and the others not to kill them he still used a gun to injure the doctor since his shield was protecting him from mutant most energy based attacks. The humans were easy to gather and soon the Professor was instructing them to take the doctor away for questioning. Everything seemed all and well again. Most importantly Oliver was safe, and nothing made her happier.
Once everything was all cleared and the other teachers were taking care of the situation upstairs, the Professor went to talk to Anna and Oliver alone to see if they were alright themselves after the horrible ordeal they just went through. Anna felt she didn’t have the right to say whether or not she was alright since she’d gone through nothing compared to what Oliver had. The Professor advised them that it would be best if they left and got them to safety. Oliver said he’d probably be able to make it if Anna helped him, and of course she agreed. She allowed him to lean on her while one of his arms was around her shoulders, she was sure to go nice and slow while the Professor rolled in front of them, checking back every now and then to make sure they were still alright.
Getting back up to real sunlight and air seemed to take forever, but Anna wasn’t going to push it after what Oliver had just been through. Once they got to the top though they all thought their problems were over, they thought they’d be able to finally let Oliver rest. However once they got to the top Anna figured her own problems were just starting.
Magneto seemed to have headed them off and was waiting for them outside the hidden entrance. Oliver’s response wasn’t sort of shocking; Anna just figured she’d be able to leave in the middle of the night once she and Oliver got back to the Institute. She didn’t think Magneto would come to pick her up, almost like he didn’t agree that she’d honour their agreement. Anna really didn’t want to have to explain herself to the Professor or to Oliver, but now she had no choice in the mater.
“Professor Frost could you take Oliver for me.” “Miss Roads what’s going on, what deal have you made with Erik?” The Professor asked while Anna walked towards Emma Frost and gave Oliver to her.
“I made a deal with Magneto in order to get us information about Copperstone. It was the only way since you wouldn’t give us the information Professor, like you didn’t want us to find out about it. So we went to talk to Magneto and I made a deal with him that when we came back I’d go with him and do whatever he wanted....” all the while she was quickly telling her story to Oliver, the Professor and Emma she was walking towards Magneto and then stopped when she was at his side, her head hanging low in shame, her white eyes covered by her dark hair...she couldn’t even bare to look any of the others in the face.

Xavier closed his eyes as if pained, but Oliver had no attention to spare for deciding how he felt about his teacher. He tried to grab Anna's sleeve as she pulled away from him, but his fingers closed on air. "No...Anna, wait!" When she reached Magneto's side, he pushed away from Emma Frost and tried to run towards her. One of Magneto's henchmen started to raise his hand threateningly, but he needn't have worried. Before he had taken two steps, Oliver's weak knees gave out and he fell on his face.
Emma Frost helped him back up, and Oliver slumped helplessly against her. There was nothing he could do. He gazed earnestly at Anna, even though she wouldn't look at him. After everything they'd been through, after all they'd endured to get to this point...was this where everything would end? Whatever Magneto had in store for her, he knew it couldn't be good. He had a horrible feeling that if he let her go off with Magneto, he would never see her again.
How could he go on without her? She'd been there for him ever since he first set foot in Xavier's school. She'd helped him, whether with her own knowledge or just with emotional support, whenever he had a problem. She was...everything. Without her, there was no meaning to life, no purpose to anything he could do or say.
And Magneto's eyes locked with his, his lips curling in a triumphant smirk. Mocking. As though he knew exactly what was going through Oliver's mind...and relishing every ounce of torment. Finally he broke their gaze and looked at Xavier again. "Well, I'd love to stay and chat, but I have things to do and I'm sure you do as well. Until we meet again."
They left, leaving Oliver and the small group of teachers alone in a desert wasteland.

((I almost teared OTL – sorry it’s so long, most of it is fluff but we need fluff every now and then right? To separate the arcs and such :3 ))
The sound of the desert had never been clearer to the human or mutant ear before. No one saw this coming, not the Professor, not Emma, none of the teachers and certainly not Oliver.
“I never thought her so deceiving; I thought I knew her better than that.” Emma turned to the Professor and then to look at Oliver to try and offer some sort of condolence as if she passed away and was never to be seen again. It was true out of many of the faculty members Anna was particularly close to the Professor and Emma Frost, and it wasn’t even because she was a telepath, it was because there was always something peculiar about how she never reacted or showed emotion to anything...not until she met Oliver.
“We should go Professor, there’s nothing we can do for her now. Besides we know where she is it’s not like Magneto would hide her. He said he wanted her to do something... so we should assume he’s keeping her somewhere in Genosha.” Cyclops had come back with a couple other of the Professors came back to join the Professor and Emma since they were taking too long to get back to the Blackbird. They’d just caught the end of the conversation and watched Magneto take away one of their students. Not all of them knew of Anna and Oliver’s close relationship but they could tell from the look on his and the Professor’s face that this had taken a very heavy toll on both of them.
It had taken a few moments for the Professor to finally say something. He turned his chair toward Oliver, who was still leaning against Emma, and placed a hand on his shoulder, “C’mon son, we have to get back, you’re in no right state to be dealing with this horrendous weather, come now.” He motioned Emma to walk Oliver back to the Blackbird, still thinking about what Magneto had said and what he could possibly want with Anna’s powers, or why he was so interested in her in the first place...
He could see the lack of colour in Oliver’s skin, either from the treatment he received in the lab, or from the shock of losing someone very dear to him. It was almost hard to look at him as he sluggishly walked off with Emma while Beast and some of the other teachers were asking them what else they had to do with the facility, its members, data and equipment. He was hardly paying attention, his mind distracted...almost forcing himself not to look into Oliver’s mind to somehow assure him that everything was alright and to help ease his pain somehow. Magneto wouldn’t kill her, if he wanted to he would have done so in front of their faces, but he clearly needed her for something, Scott was right, she was alive and Oliver had to hold onto that...it might be the only thing that would keep him going at this point.
“We’ll have to alter the memories of every employee that ever worked here...perhaps track down the others to see if they’re still alive, and keep all the data, we’ll review it when we get back to the school. But that can wait until after I speak to Oliver about what happened in there, I want to hear it from him and no one else. He’ll come to me when he’s ready.” It would take some time for Oliver to get over what had just happened...days....maybe weeks...it was a good thing they’d just both graduated from the school and that it was summer time, less mutants around to see him, but also fewer friends to comfort him when he needed it the most.
Once Oliver was comfortably seated in the Blackbird, strapped in and waiting for the others to return, Emma sat beside him gazing at him from the side with her cool blue diamond eyes. She, like the Professor could tell he was suffering...and not from the torture. It would be wrong of her to protrude and read his mind, calming his world before it came crashing down on him.
Anna just made everything better for him, and he made her life much brighter. Now that she was away from him and him away from her, Emma wondered what would happen to the stability of each of the two. “Oliver,” she started quietly putting a hand on his to try and reassure him that it would be okay, “you need to try and rest...even if you wanted to go save her you can barely walk on your own, much less use your powers...We’ll all think of something, I’m sure the Professor isn’t going to leave things the way they are, I bet he’s regretting not telling you anything he knew about Copperstone, especially if it could have stopped her from making a deal with Magneto.” She reached into his mind; trying to influence his thoughts without prying into them...she actively suggested sleep, and rest, hoping to tire him out so he’d stop thinking about how all this had turned out.
It wasn’t long after Emma’s conversation that the other teachers started to load into the jet with the Professor in toe, seating themselves around it’s bay before it took off and headed back to the east end of the country, leaving the desert, the facility and any traces of Anna behind in the sand.

((If you don't mind, I think I'll do a timeskip. Oh and by the way, if you're wondering about my sister, I haven't actually been able to contact her since I came back to school because they just moved and so far only have dial-up internet, so they're limiting all non-essential access. Hopefully they'll get something better soon so I can actually TALK TO MY FAMILY AGAIN :XP smile )
The first few weeks after the Copperstone incident, Oliver spoke little and revealed few of his emotions. In fact, sometimes he even reminded the teachers of Anna before she had befriended Oliver. He slept a lot, but even when he was awake he would lie on his back and stare at the ceiling or sit in a chair and stare out the window. He didn't betray any signs of grieving or giving Anna up for lost, even though he had to know that it was unlikely she would ever be freed from Magneto's clutches. It was like something inside him had died.
But slowly, his health and strength returned. The experiment had weakened him, but seemed to leave no other side effects, good or bad. His physical appearance remained unchanged, and after a few weeks, he even tested out his powers and found no change. Anna was certainly far enough away to let him use them to their full extent.
One day, Xavier rolled his chair silently out onto the grass of the lawn behind the school to find Oliver sitting with his back against the wall, right next to a window. Next to him was a large, flourishing lilac bush, covered with pale purple flowers even though it wasn't the right time of year. As he approached, Oliver gestured and another sprig of lilacs bloomed before his eyes.
Then Oliver looked up and noticed Xavier. He pushed himself to his feet and said, "Professor, when are we going to rescue Anna?"
Xavier gently probed Oliver's mind, careful not to be too invasive. All he could find in there was iron-hard resolve. "Tomorrow." While Oliver had been recovering, Xavier had closely examined the Copperstone records and analyzed the data the scientists had collected. He had an inkling now of Magneto's plan, the one he'd been formulating ever since the Cold War. This had ceased to be just about Anna and Oliver; Magneto had to be stopped or the whole world would be in peril.
"Are you sure you want to come?" It would be dangerous to bring Oliver along, especially since he would be practically defenseless since there was so much more metal in Genosha than soil, and his abilities with Anna's wind power would also be limited even once they got close enough for him to use them. But Xavier knew better, now, than to insist that Oliver stay behind. Look at the disaster that had fallen when they took matters into their own hands last time.
"I'm positive." Oliver's expression was determined. His love for Anna would drive him onward, even though he must know how unlikely it was that either of them would make it out alive.
"All right," Xavier said finally. "But when we get there, I want you to stay right by my side at all times. At all times, understand? Don't go running off looking for her yourself. We will rescue her together."
For the first time, Oliver looked surprised. "You're going into Genosha with us, Professor?"
Xavier smiled grimly. "Oh yes. I owe Erik a visit."

((Well lemme know what happens, and you never told me where you moved to! ;3 is it just for school? ))
Anna knew she wasn’t welcome at Genosha. This idea was reflected by the way the other mutants on the island treated her. No one except Magneto and his closest confidants knew about what happened at Copperstone and he was determined to keep it that way. Sure, they knew she was from Xavier’s school, and that was surely enough of a reason to keep them from befriending her.
He usually kept her hidden away from the world, always keeping at least two of his henchmen on her at all times…literally. Whenever she went down to have dinner with Magneto they were by her side, whenever she went out to explore the city they were with her, they wouldn’t even let her fly unless someone was flying nearby to restrain her if she tried to escape. It even got so bad that someone had to follow her into the girl’s bathroom while she showered. There wasn’t a minute in the day when she wasn’t being followed except when she was locked inside her bedroom.
She rarely spoke at all, and when she did it was usually a one-word answer. She’d also gotten paler, refusing to go out into the sunlight on most days, purposely confining herself to her bedroom, curled up under the blankets or staring at the ceiling. When she’d go out and practice using her powers so she wouldn’t get rusty, her mind would wander to the institute and to Oliver. More than once she wished she was able to make a flower grow out of what little soil was on the island so she could feel closer to Oliver…but it never did.
Anna had begun to lose all the muchness she gained from when she first met Oliver. The twinkling in her white eyes that sparkled every time she laid eyes was him, her skin grew cold to the touch, her eyes always cast to the sky, waiting…wondering if he was going to come for her.
But of course he was! He wouldn’t just leave her! Neither would the Professor.
But as the weeks began to drag on her hope began to dwindle. What could be taking them so long? They knew she was there…they knew Magneto had her, so what were they waiting for? Anna had never doubted Oliver but she began to wonder what was taking him so long…she wished the feelings she felt for him would reach him somehow. Whatever was left of her feelings anyway.
She’d gone back to the way she was, her face expression and emotionless at all times. Sometimes she’d dream about him, reliving memories that kept her going. Sometimes she’d wake up and her pillow would be slightly damp from the quiet tears she cried in her sleep. When she woke she always wondered why she was crying. Was this what heartbreak was, she never imagined it to be so painful it would make her cry.
As the days went on she felt like she was forgetting the past few months…little by little until she was Anna Roads before she’d met Oliver Harding.
Despite the way she was treated by Magneto and the others and despite the way she lived on the island, Magneto still felt he needed to keep his own personal eye on her, which was why they had dinner together every night. Or at least the nights he was in.
“How was your outing today?” Magneto asked routinely one evening, his three children staying quiet, waiting for their guest to speak.
“Fine.” Anna said plainly.
Wanda, Pietro, and Lorna whispered to each other, then began snickering every now and then.
“Maybe you should lighten up the guards father. If Anna’s going to be staying with us for a long time you might as well make her comfortable. Your guards must be bored of standing by this girl” said Lorna with a taunting look in her eye.
“She hasn’t even tried to escape. Probably because she knows it’s pointless and that we’ll just catch her.” Pietro took a swig of his water and eyed Anna and her table mannerisms. Even in the face of the enemy she was so proper, none of her movements were wasted or quick like Pietro’s…they were poised and perfected, her white eyes dazed at her food just trying to get through another meal.
“Don’t be so cruel Pietro. It isn’t her fault Xavier knows it’s a trap, that’s why he’s not coming for her. She’s not even a mutant really, she’s just a pawn for that other boy. He can’t be expected to save every mutant in danger.” Wanda watched Anna as she finished her dinner, and quietly excused herself from the table, once again two of Magneto’s henchmen following her, escorting her out of the dining hall and back towards her bedroom.
Once she had shut the large double doors behind her, she wandered to the bed and lay face down onto the sheets and pillows, curling up into a ball, parts of her wishing Oliver wouldn’t come and save her. That had been Magneto’s plan after all, to get the mutant with all dominant genes. If that was true then it would have been better if Oliver didn’t come and that she stay on the island for the rest of her life, never to see him or the outside world ever again.
((SORRY FOR THE LONGNESS AND FLUFFYNESS OF THIS POST! OTL! I found it difficult figuring out what to do with Magneto so I focused it on all the different mixed messed up feelings Anna had inside...did she want Oliver to save her, the fact she missed him, the fact she was slowly starting to forget.
Also, I was listening to this when I was posting Holding On and Letting Go ))

((That was an appropriate song. My family just moved a few neighborhoods away; they had to because our landlord sold the house rolleyes ))
They were finally leaving. They sped over the land, heading out to sea where Genosha lay hidden. Where Anna lay hidden. Oliver felt more alive already, just knowing that they were finally doing something, that they weren't going to just leave her there to submit to whatever awful things Magneto must have wanted her for. Maybe they were already too late....
But no, he knew he couldn't think like that. He had to believe that she was all right, that she would soon be safe at his side. They'd gotten through so much together, and they would get through this too. The plane was more crowded than Oliver had ever seen it, even when they had gone to retrieve the Cerebro. Everyone who had ever gone to Xavier's school seemed to be on board, and a few of the students who had graduated alongside Oliver and Anna. Luke was there, but Valon had stayed behind since his powers weren't suited for combat. But Oliver couldn't think of anything to say to his old friends anyway. It felt like years since all he'd had to worry about was grades and harnessing his powers. It felt like years since he had seen Anna last....
But at last they came in sight of the island, and Oliver unbuckled his seat belt and headed for the door. The others on his team were already there, and Oliver marveled again that Xavier had given this task to his best men. Cyclops, Storm, Frost...even Wolverine was there. Oliver felt small and useless next to them, but they didn't seem to mind. He had to wonder what Xavier had said to them to convince them to do this.
This time, there was no diversion, no distraction. Magneto already knew what they had come for, and they knew their only hope of rescuing Anna would be charging Genosha from as many directions as possible. A few telekinetic mutants dropped everyone swiftly down from the hidden jet, even the Professor in his wheelchair. As soon as they were seen, Magneto's mutants surged out to attack them, hoping to push them into the sea, but they were prepared. Everyone accessed their powers the moment their feet touched the land, and with the element of surprise, they were able to press on towards the entrance.
Oliver hurried forward at Xavier's side, making trees and spiky plants erupt from the soil to ensnare their enemies. He had never seen the Professor fight before, and was amazed to see that the old man looked as calm as ever, barely raising a finger but still tossing people aside in one direction or another. Everyone who went up against him fell back, clutching their heads and screaming in agony, or fainting immediately.
Even his voice in Oliver's head was calm and measured. This way, Oliver. Oliver followed him and the others down a side passage into the fortress, amazed and just trying to keep up.

((Wow what…is that even legal…what…o.O))
Anna had just drifted off to her dream world where things seemed to make sense, when two of Magneto’s henchmen burst into the room along with Quicksilver, grabbing her by the arms and dragging her off her bed. “W-Wh…What’s going on, where are you taking me?” poor girl was still slightly drowsy but it didn’t mean she wasn’t capable of walking on her own. “You’re being moved of course, the old coot’s finally made his move as father predicted…took him long enough…now let’s go.” Pietro motioned the henchmen to follow after him.
“The Professor’s come for me?” she had to ask. She never thought he would, but he was making it plainly obvious if Magneto’s mutants already knew he was there. But if the Professor was here…was Oliver here too? She tried to use her powers, but Pietro stopped her, grabbing both her hands in his and eyeing her, “I wouldn’t try that if I were you princess.” He said releasing her from his grip and kicking open the doors.
Once they stepped out the large metal double doors, the halls were crowded with mutants either running toward or from battle. Anna struggled in the arms of her henchmen, trying not to be dragged to where ever they were taking her. “Let go of me” she struggled to pull away or stagger back but the two were abnormally big and much stronger than her. “I said…let go!” she cried out for the first time in weeks and suddenly a quick burst of air pressure shot from her body as the two were forced into the walls.
Anna could barely believe what she’d just done, did that mean Oliver wasn’t here? Or maybe he wasn’t close enough…Still this was her chance! She turned and tried flying down the hall but for some reason could only manage to hover a inches off the ground. “Oh no you don’t princess!” Pietro dashed over, zigzagging between the crowds, then trapped in her a bit of an open hallway, running circles around her so quickly that it began to suck the air from the atmosphere. Anna fell to the ground with a thud, on her hands and knees gasping for air. Once Pietro figured she’d had enough he stopped and grabbed her forcefully, pinning her arms behind her back with his right and his left around her neck, “Now you’ll cooperate and come with me, we don’t have all day.” He picked up his feet and ran past the crowds, practically dragging her with him. He running so fast he was almost a blur. Even Anna couldn’t seem to focus on where he was taking her…but where ever it was it felt dark.
~~~
“Professor!” Frost was in Diamond form and had kicked down a couple of mutants that were blocking their path with Cyclops and motioned deeper into Genosha’s core where she pointed to a set of doors guarded by several mutants. “There wouldn’t be so many if they weren’t hiding something.”
She, Cyclops and Wolverine went to deal with them while Storm, the Professor and Oliver charged past to check the large room.
It was empty.
Storm and Oliver frantically searched the large circular room with only one window that was only used for gazing outside to the battle. The blue duffle bag with Anna’s clothes in it was beside the bed, her accessories on the night stand – her ipod, earrings, bracelets, and her contact lens case. At least they were taking care of her with the condition the room was in, but then again he wasn't sure what sort of mental state she was in. The Professor didn’t think Erik would make it this easy to get her back…no his old friend was far too cunning for that.
“We’ll find her Oliver, she has to be here somewhere.” He said reassuringly looking at the bed that she’d laid on only minutes ago. He rolled over to the side and picked up the sheets and held it in his hands, focused on it and saw the outlines of Anna, Pietro and several figures he didn't know. Like ghosts running around the room that only he could see. He followed the trail out of the bedroom, watched Anna put up a fight against the two, watched her suffocate and watched Quicksilver take her deeper into another part of Genosha. “They’re leading us inside, away from the battle.” The Professor knew it was a trap for Oliver and didn’t want to risk bringing him about…plus the farther in they went the less soil there would be for Oliver to manipulate.
“Logan, Emma, with me, Ororo, Scott return outside with the others and help them as best you can. We’re going down to see Erik, hopefully when we return we’ll have Miss Roads back with us.”
((Lol, of course it's legal razz He owned the house; we were just renting it. He wasn't very nice about it, but it's totally legal.))
For a moment, Xavier looked doubtfully at Oliver, who quickly spoke up. "I'm coming too, Professor." Thankfully, there was no protest, though Xavier looked like he wanted to.
Without further ado, they hurried on, following Xavier as though he could see an invisible trail of breadcrumbs that would lead them to Anna. They met some mutants along the way, but with three such powerful warriors, they pushed onward. Oliver barely even had to do anything, though he tried to keep hold of his connection to the earth. Maybe it was just the thick barrier of steel, but he dared to hope that Anna's proximity was what made that connection weak.
Then at last they burst into a huge, round chamber filled with large equipment that could pass either for experiments like Copperstone's or just extremely creative torture devices. Whatever they were for, it was obviously sinister. Worse, Magneto stood there as though waiting for them, and Anna was there as well, held still by a large, brawny mutant.
"Anna!" Oliver yelled, starting to run forward despite everything else, but Xavier threw out a hand before he could take a single step. No, his voice said sharply in Oliver's mind, and Oliver drew up short, startled at the undercurrent of fear in that voice. The Professor had seemed so calm up until now.
"How good of you to come, Mr. Harding," Magneto said calmly, ignoring the low, almost bestial growl in Wolverine's throat.
"Let Anna go!" Oliver interrupted. He had eyes only for her; now that they were in each other's presence again, his connection to the earth was completely shut off, but all of his deadened emotions came surging back. The pressure in his chest was almost too much to bear; he thought he would explode into a thousand pieces if he couldn't be at her side.
"A reasonable request," Magneto said, "and one I will grant...for the proper price."
Slowly, Oliver shifted his gaze back to his enemy. "What price?"
A triumphant smile snaked across Magneto's lips. "You, of course. Haven't you figured out that was my true purpose in taking Miss Roads hostage?"
The Professor was trying to say something in his mind, but Oliver paid no attention. He could only stare with dawning horror at Magneto. "What? Me? Why?"
"Because you, my boy, are the result of all my meticulous experiments." An almost fond expression crossed his face, like someone looking at a trusty hammer they always used to make repairs. "You are the ultimate mutant...my ultimate weapon. So come, Oliver! Come to your master, and I will let your little friend go free."
Finally, Xavier spoke aloud. "Don't listen to him, Oliver! Don't give in; we'll find another-"
"Oh, I don't think you understand me," Magneto interrupted silkily. "You have no choice."
The mutant holding Anna captive whipped out a knife more quickly than the eye could follow, and pressed it so hard against Anna's neck that it sliced a thin ribbon of blood across her throat.
"Stop!" Oliver pleaded, staring at the red droplets trickling down her beautiful neck. "Please, I'll do whatever you want, just don't hurt her!"
"Then come." Magneto held out his hand, and Oliver had no choice. He started across the room to join the most evil man in the world.
((OHHH I SEE!!!! I thought you owned your house! Gotcha, my uncle used to do that, except he lived with his wife like...in the bottom half of her parents’ house until they got their own))
Magneto wasn’t taking any chances with this negotiation. When his son had informed him that Anna had tried to escape, he simply couldn’t have that happen again. When she was returned to him in the large circular chamber he assigned one of his larger more brawnier mutants to take hold of her. He was large alright, and muscular. He could pretty much break Anna like a tooth pick if he wanted to...holding her like she was a rag doll, her feet several inches off her ground, arms pressed to her sides. She couldn’t even struggle out of his grasp, and when she did, he only squeezed tighter. “We want her alive, she’s no used to us dead.” Magneto explained while waiting for his old friend to come bursting through the door.
And he did, exactly as planned. The Professor, his psychic, his pet, and the boy – Oliver
The moment her white eyes laid eyes on the Professor, and Oliver, it was like all her hopes and memories came flooding back to her. It hit her like a bolt of lightning, reminding her that there was someone who cared about her.
“Oliver!” she cried and tried to struggle but the air was taken out of her as the mutant holding her in his tight grasp squeezed, making it harder and harder to breathe, and even harder to speak.
There he was...across the room. How could she have almost forgot about him? He who made her life so much better, he who made her feel and care about something for the first time in her life. She couldn’t barely move...barely breathe, but all she wanted to do was hold him, feel his warm tight embrace, his arms holding her protectively, lovingly the way only he could hold her...But she could feel her lungs giving in, her vision blurring, she could swear one or several of her ribs was about to crack...
Magneto realized this and ordered his accomplice to release her – slightly, as he made negotiations.
Anna knew all along this was what she was here for. She was just a pawn...a tool in Magneto’s game. That’s all her life ever was...from the moment she was stolen from her real parents she was nothing but someone’s experiment. The only comfort she ever found in life was being with Oliver...those files, video logs, and pictures of them where they were barely two years old...It had to be fate they’d end up together, what were the chances of them finding one another again. But this time Oliver was the stronger one. She was always the one protecting and taking the lead, but this time it was she who needing protecting...she felt vulnerable, she felt useless, she couldn’t let him give himself up even though she wanted nothing more than to be with him.
As Magneto and Oliver were making negotiations it seemed their conversation had gone sour. The mutant holding Anna had produce a blade from his person, and holding her with just one arm, pressed the blade so hard and so fast against her neck that it sliced a ribbon of blood that dripped down slowly. Now of course it wasn’t deep enough to kill her, nor did it slice her jugular, but she could feel the warmth of something wet tickling down her neck. Her body trembled slightly...it hurt to breathe, her eyes began welling up with tears...but all she could do was look at Oliver and hope that in some way he would understand that she’d give anything to stop him from being used by Magneto.
Oliver had agreed. Given in. Threw in the towel.
NO! Anna wouldn’t accept that, but there was nothing she could do.
“Oliver...think about what you’re doing. If you go now you’ll never see Anna again, are you just going to throw it all away?” The Professor called out to him, and tried to stop him from taking another step. Even Emma and Logan knew they weren’t fast enough...and if Magneto couldn’t have his experiment he had no problem doing away with Anna’s life.
“You know his has no choice in the matter Charles. The girl he loves will be saved, and they’ll be able to live happy separate lives. Be grateful I’m even letting her go...it’s better than her being dead isn’t it?” Magneto said still holding his hand out to Oliver while Anna was trying to catch his glance.
’Please...Oliver....don’t do this. If I can’t be with you he may as well kill me.’ She knew he couldn’t hear her thoughts but hopefully her pained eyes would relay the message.
