It's a spicy sauce. Some people eat it with blue cheese or ranch dressing to control the heat :3 It's awesome.

Actually french fries are most likely attributed to the Belgians, not the French. Heck, most people in France see it as a Belgian creation.

In Belgium and France, French fries are called pommes frites. They're pronounced like pom freets.

Historians claim French fries were first made in Belgium during the 17th century. The inhabitants of a certain valley liked to include small fried fish with their meals. One winter, the river they used to catch fish froze over. As an alternative, the people sliced up potatoes and fried them, instead.

During World War I, when British and American soldiers ate the pommes frites, they called them French fries because French was the offficial language of the Belgian army.

I wonder why we don't have poutine here question I guess people in the States don't like eating ketchup and gravy together. Or, maybe it's the cheese curd.
