Iago could hear her whisper in the dead silence of the room, and his heart skipped a beat. There was a glimmer of hope there. He sighed, sitting on her windowsill.
"I thought you did, Evie." he wanted to say Evelyn, but habit made him not do it.
"If you did...why? Why lead me on like this?" he asked softly, looking at the top of her bowed head.
"If I truly did make you feel that way...why did you crush me like this?" he asked, still in a soft tone. If she could prove that she loved him, truly loved him, and this had been a lie, just to keep him away from her, then he would take her back. That glimmer of hope wished with all his being that she would let him back into her life, let him take her back. If there was ever a God looking down on this world...make her come back. he prayed to himself.

εviε Evie hadn't realized that she'd spoken so loudly, then again it was usually silent in the house at night so it wasn't wonder he'd heard her speak. She couldn't let her charade fall to pieces afer she'd worked so hard to keep it up and now that she'd broken him...why would he take her back after what she'd done? Evie's heart hurt too much and she felt so tired and weakened from the pain she'd felt all day. She had to move and sit down on her bed, her eyes closed for a moment and she nearly fell asleep.
"I had to do it...I had to make you hate me so that you would leave and somehow you might fall for Jocelyn like you were supposed to and forget about the poor little common girl that worked a the forge." Evie's eyes stayed closed, she was much to exhausted to open them.
"I know I promised never to hurt you but this was an instance where I had to...Iago...." Evie opened her eyes after a moment but did not look up to catch his.
"It was okay though...that you hate me. I didn't mind if you hated me...you could leave forever or be with Jocelyn and hate me and I wouldn't care. Had you left however...I was very much leaning towards taking my life. A life without your presence is not the life I want to live. Being without you would have killed me...and I would have killed myself in turn." Evie still avoided his eyes, fearing how he would take her words.

Iago's heart broke at her words. Somehow, it shattered even more than before. He got up and walked over to her, kneeling in front of her, and he took her one hand in both of his.
"I can't marry Jocelyn. I can't fall in love with her, without changing myself completely." he told her in a soft tone.
"And I don't hate you. I am torn to pieces, but I still love you." he reached up and brushed some hair out of her face.
"I'm willing to give you a second chance, Evie, if you can prove to me, without question, that you love me." he told her. He used the same hand that he used to brush her hair from her face to turn her face so he could look into her eyes.
"But no matter what, Evie...promise me you won't take your life. You are free. You deserve life more than I do." he whispered. Please, I still love you. Take me back. he said to himself, hoping it would show in his eyes.

εviε Evie jumped when she felt his hands around hers. She wanted him to leave so badly but now...she only wanted him to stay. Oh how she loved him and oh how she felt so bad for tearing him to pieces with her harsh, unfeeling words. How could he still love her after what she'd done? She broke his heart and he revealed that to her and yet he still said that he loved her?
"A second chance..." Evie repeated quietly. It was all she wanted but she didn't want him to love her and she did at the same time.
"Taking my life would have been the only thing I had left. Iago, I love you so much and I could not live in a life without you. Without you my life has no meaning and ending it would have been an escape to all the pain your absence would have caused me." Evie couldn't speak over a whisper, she knew her shaky voice would give her away and she would cry again.
"My life is worthless now that I have hurt you...I do not deserve life." Evie took her hand from his. "Do not touch me...my evil will taint you."

Iago shook his head. He took her hand again. "I am already tainted." he told her. He felt unclean, after having Jocelyn touch him.
"Your life is not worthless. You hurt me, but you believed it would help. It's painful, but noble." he said softly.
"Don't kill yourself, Evie. I still love you, and all you have to do is prove to me you do, without a doubt, that you do too." he said softly. He put a hand on her cheek. "I leave my future in your hands, Evie." he whispered. "If you take me back...I'll stay, and I'll be the happiest man alive. If you still refuse to let me stay with you...I leave, and live out my life miserable, and utterly alone. Please, Evie. I'm begging you now, not as a prince, but as Iago's heart...take me back." he said in a voice just barely above a whisper.

εviε Evie shook her head violently, sending her hair out in all directions. What was he saying? He wanted HER to take HIM back?
"It should be the other way around! How can you ask me to take YOU back when I was the one who broke your heart?!" Evie couldn't understand his ways. What was going on now?
"I hurt you with my words, I pretended not to love you althought I really DO with everything that I am and ever will be and YOU are the one to ask ME to take you back?" Evie exhaled sharply and took his hand in her own.
"I would be a fool to not take you back my love but I believe it is I that must ask you to take me back. You have done nothing to hurt me but I tore at your heart...as hard as it was I knew I had to to protect you." Evie's cheeks were reddened and she was sorry for her outburst but she did not take it back. She meant what she said.

Iago let himself take the verbal beating, knowing that he had worded it wrong, but his mind wasn't exactly working properly.
"Evie, I've already taken you back." he whispered. "Otherwise I would have left already. I just need to know that you would return my feelings, I need to know that you can take ME back. I've never stopped loving you, Evie." he told her.
"And while it was a noble attempt, your arms around me protect me more than leaving me ever would." he whispered. He gently stroked her cheek with his thumb.
"What do you say, Evie? Do you let me take you back?" he asked. "Do you let yourself love me again?"

εviε Evie kept herself from letting her mouth hang open at his words. He'd already taken her back? Already? She felt now more than ever that she did not deserve such a man in her life but was eternally grateful that he decided to stay with her. If she was any good at putting her feelings into words, then she would tell him how much he meant to her and how meaningless and pointless her life seemed previously. He was her everything and always would be.
"Then I shall stay with you and continue to protect you with my arms wound tight. Never again will I try to let you go...it's much too painful for me to bear and I will hurt you in the process...something I cannot do ever again." Evie spoke now with fervor in her voice, it wavered but not because of weakness, it was because she felt so much love for him that her words were almost too strong to be spoken.
"I would have never stopped loving you Iago...I might have tried but I would never have succeeded. I will love you now and forever." Evie could feel happiness again and felt her heart beat. It seemed dead to her before. A smile spread across her lips as she looked into his eyes.

Iago almost couldn't believe what she was saying, but now it was in a good way. He smiled back at her and hugged her tightly. "Thank you, Evie." he whispered, his eyes watering up again but now with tears of joy. He had his Evie back. His life was back.
"I love you so much, Evie...I love you so much, it's almost like the word love is too mild to describe it." he told her truthfully, pulling his head back for a moment, before kissing her on the lips. When he pulled away from that, he smiled.
"I believe you, Evie. Something about that tone of voice makes me believe." he whispered.

εviε Evie's own eyes started to water when she saw Iago's had as well. Her previous feeling of dread and emptiness when he threatened to leave had left her an empty shell devoid of any reasons to live. Now she felt overwhelmed by feelings of intense happiness. Iago kissing her only made it that much better for her.
"I love you too Iago....my heart feels as if it is bursting but with a joy that I have never felt until this very moment. Thank you Iago." Evie smiled and wiped at his eyes. She didn't like him shedding tears, even happy ones. "Thank you for showing me how much I love you." She kissed his forehead and then his cheeks and down to his lips and back up again. Evie found it almost impossible to stop kissing him...she'd very nearly lost him just a second ago.

As she kissed him, Iago continued to smile, his brain at work. He stopped her, smiling. "Evie, I've got an idea...and a request." he told her. "Starting with the request. This is serious, and I want you to take all the time you need to think it over." he said, looking into her eyes.
"If we were to bed tonight, could you forgive me if I had to bed with Jocelyn? It's not my choice, but if she gets suspicious, she has the same power I have to throw you in the prison. She's already suspicious of us, and I don't know how long I can put it off." he explained.
"It's a big decision...and a heart-wrenching one. But at least you know that you were my first, and I yours." he said softly.

εviε Evie looked at him questioningly when he'd stopped her from kissing him. Had she done something wrong? It turned out that he'd asked to bed with her hand she turned a beet red color in her cheeks. Bed with him....so soon? Only today had they proclaimed they loved each other but then again, only today had she discovered love...almost lost it forever...and got it back again. Evie felt as if the both of them had gone through at least three or four years of love together crammed into one day full of events. Would she bed with him then? Evie shook her head and smiled at him, not saying a word just yet. She kissed him again full on the lips but lingered there for a moment. She inhaled and became intoxicated by his scent. He was everywhere...in her mind...in her heart...in her arms. Evie got on her knees and pressed herself closer against him, closer...and tighter. She realized that she was only wearing a thin slip and was hyperaware of his skin against hers.
"As long as you love me, my sweet Iago...I shall forgive you of anything you have to do. I realize that you must do this with that hateful woman and that makes me love you more." Evie whispered, her lips paused a short distance from his. She kissed him again and bit her lip out of habit.
"I do not mind...if we were to bed tonight..." She blushed again and felt very warm.

Iago smiled, hugging her tightly. For the first time, he noticed how little she was wearing. He had been so focused on getting her heart back that most of the time, his eyes hadn't left her face, or looking into her own eyes.
"Thank you, Evie...that means more to me than you could ever know." he whispered. It was true: to know that after all of that, she could still love him, and continue to love him though he was forced to be unfaithful made him love her even more, if it was possible.
He pulled back a little bit, putting a hand on her warm cheek. "Neither would I." he whispered, smiling softly. He kissed her on the tip of her nose. "Have I ever told you how cute you look when you blush?" he asked.

εviε Evie felt so happy now that he'd made him happy in turn. She loved his arms around her, they felt like chords holding her against him...she felt secure and safe in them.
"I am glad I am able to make you happy." She smiled brightly at him but sputtered and moved his hand away from her cheek, her blush getting brighter.
"How could you!?" Evie laughed aloud when he'd commented on her blush. "Why did you have to go and make me blush? Here we are about to bed and you decide to go and comment on my blushing?" She kissed his cheek and leaned back until her back hit the wall behind her. Evie hoped that they could stay like that forever, she with him and he with her wrapped in a warm embrace.

"I couldn't help it!" Iago said, laughing along with her. He continued to hold her, although he was now leaned forward at a strange angle against her, while she was pressed up against the wall.
"I saw you blush every once in a while, and I always found it absolutely adorable, I just never got around to telling you." he explained with a soft smile, kissing her on the cheek tenderly. He was so happy that he had his Evie back, and that she could and would forgive him for everything, that he felt like he would explode from sheer happiness.
