Well, we have seen more than our fair share of crooked politicians here in Louisiana. In fact, I believe this has been a trend since the very beginning of govt in this area. Anyway, from my perspective (and it sounds like many others) that the upper crust has been on a pedestal for so long that they have devised more ways than we can imagine to take care of their own, all while appearing to be "for the people." Yeah, let's see even one of us go a year w/o paying our taxes and see how fast the IRS is knocking at our door! And then there are occasions when we get someone who truly wants to change the way things run, but you can just read it on their faces, a few years into term,... the system has beat them down. I wonder if the old country was secretly smirking at our ignorance that our country would be any better than theirs. While I am proud to be an American, it is without arrogance. What really scares me, is that even though we are the majority,... we feel powerless!

Thanks for your kind words, Miss Abigal.
I'm still skeptical about the benefits of chemo treatments. I have lost an Aunt and my Grandfather in the fight against cancer. And both times, the treatment caused more pain and sickness than the disease.

Ya know how when a celebrity is touched by an illness, they donate and make possible so much research...
but where is any progress?
In these times we feel like we know so much, that there's not much left new to discover, yet we are still at the mercy of our environment.
I do like the new move towards greener living.
Personally, I think I'd be alot happier living closer to the earth,... knowing where my food came from; being able to take a stroll without worrying about being assaulted, and being able to take the time to appreciate the blueness of the sky, the feel of the breeze, warmth of the sun...
That's it. I'm going outside to lay in my hammock.

Let me just say that I have actually worked in the government before. In fact, I plan and working for the government for the rest of my life if I can. Or, an organization working towards a greater good. It's hard to get anything accomplished with regulations, paperwork, etc. I'm not saying the government is all good, but it's hard for those working in it, trying to do to right thing, to do just that.

Remember, the upper crust of society getting what they want is not a new phenomenon. That's why we all need to work hard making sure those checks and balances work and saying something when it's not being done. That's why there are government watchdog groups. Believe it or not, they do a lot of good. They're making sure things are getting done in a timely matter and with what is best for the people. *shrugs* I just try my best to voice my opinion and donating to good causes when I have extra money.

Yes he does, but does he do what the people want? I don't think so, if he did he would not have let Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid write this stimulus bill. They loaded it with so much spending, for their own special interests, that there is nothing in it that will stimulate the economy. I spent the day yesterday writing to my senators and even Mr. Obama, I even called the White House and left a message for the President, I told them of what I wanted to see for this country and you all need to do the same. Let your voices be heard, if not then you have no right to complain about anything.

HI!!! Sorry I've been absent. Things get kinda crazy. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have a literary characters guild called The Characters Conference, if anyone's interested.

Obama just has a lot of bark but no bit. He is just promising too many things and that is going to drive us deeper into the ground. He still has not done one thing yet and as long as people in congress are against him then its going to be hard to rise from where we are right now.

@Invisible Nightengale - A characters conference ????????

Similar to a writer's conference, but in The Character's Conference only CHARACTERS are welcome.

Well, put Miss Abigal!

I was thinking that too... it's alot of talk. But is anything going to change or be accomplished...
He talked about transparency, not one pet project, bipartisan ...
yet the House & Senate are voting in their usual manner.

On a lighter note...
what's everyone's plans for Valentine's Day? the usual... dinner and a movie?
I'd love to do that, but the movie is packed on any Saturday, never-the-less for V.D. And the restaurants always have a wait Friday and Saturdays... imagine what this weekend will be like!? That doesn't sound very romantic to me.
Is it too cheesy and lazy to just order some pizza and order a movie on demand? Oh, some good Chinese food would be good too!
But this plan just doesn't seem very special, like not enough thought to make it romantic. I need some ideas!

Obama actually has done something good- I heard that he shut down Guantanamo Bay.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 12, 2009 8:00 am

Why was shutting down Gitmo a good thing?????This is going to allow people, who would do real harm to this country, to go free. We not be as safe as we have been. I don't have a problem with the way these people were treated, have you forgotten the way our service guys were treated, or how some who would stand up against them we beheaded. I can remember, under Carter, when they burned and mutilated our people that they had as hostages, and drug their bodies through the streets, so no I don't have a problem with a little water being dropped in their face......................don't believe what the media tells you, these people are not treated so bad, have you not seen the way they live there, they have more comforts than they have at their own homes.

But that's just it. The people that are in there are perhaps not the sweetest guys, but there is no real evidence agianst most of them either. Most didnt get a fair trial and to keep them locked just for the hell of it can never be a good thing, right?

I'm okay with V-Day either way. If I'm in a relationship, then I go wherever she likes, but if I'm single, it's basically like an early St. Patrick's Day and me and the boys go drinkin'! pirate

Gito being shut down is a good thing. Believe it or not, there are rules to war. Denying basic human rights is one of them. Those who are truly dangerous to the American people are being shipped to other prisons, it's not like everyone is getting off scott free or anything. No matter what other people have done in the past, denying basic human rights is morally and ethically wrong, even if you are guilty of something. What the punishment for these people are, be it death or imprisonment is up to the courts and juries to decide.

As far as V-day goes, I'm hoping I can do something a little ridiculous, but I don't think my boyfriend will be up to doing that. So...I have no idea what's going on. I got him something awesome, so I hope he likes that, otherwise, as long as we're together, most anything is ok with me.
