εviε Evie felt Iago's hand against her head and she didn't stop him or move away from his touch. She hated hurting him, seeing as she'd already told herself that she would do everything in her power to keep him happy, she didn't not know however, that she would have to forgive his bedding with another woman. She shook her head at the thought, who would have enough strength to fogive someone after that? Evie knew she was strong for a woman but no woman could be that strong. They had two options as she saw it, either she and Iago bed as soon as possible or she would have to forgive him....Evie didn't want to lose him but she knew from the bottom of her heart that she would not be able to forgive him for that.
"I wish for you to be normal as well...though we know this is not possible. I would not be able to forgive you if you bedded with Jocelyn....it is just too hard to think about. My heart shatters at the thought of you loving her physically like that." Evie shuddered once and slipped out of his arms.
"I cannot even fathom how I would feel after knowing you have lost your purity to her. When I lose you in such a way...I do not know if I will be able to bear it. I would rather die then know such...such...." Evie shuddered once more. She could not even speak of it.

Iago felt horrible, hearing her say that, and having her slip out of his arms. He stayed on his knees, looking up at her.
"I feel like I already did...to some degree, lose my purity." he told her, looking away. "I want to kiss you, but I feel like my lips are tainted after what I've done." he explained.
"Evie, you're the love of my life, and now, my only friend. I need your help..." he closed his eyes and looked down.
"I don't know what to do, then...do we bed now, and hope you can forgive me if I have to bed with her? Or do we run?" he looked up at her and opened his eyes: as before, they were wet. "I don't want to lose you, Evie. I felt like the happiest man alive when you told me you loved me, when I kissed you on the lips. I don't want to lose that feeling." he said softly.

εviε Evie hated seeing Iago down on his knees like a commoner, he was a Prince for god's sake...he wasn't the one who was supposed to be on their knees. Her heart broke just seeing him in his current state...and she knew she could relieve him if she wanted to. Did she really want to? Did she want to make him suffer further? Evie couldn't forgive him if he'd bedded with Jocelyn...and if they bed together and he still had to love Jocelyn in that way then maybe it would be a bit more bearable knowing that she had been his first and that he really loved her. Again, everything went back to that hateful woman, she ruined everything good in her life. Iago was the only good thing she had going and she didn't want to lose him either.
"Please stand Iago...I cannot bear to see you this way." Evie softened a bit and only wanted him to stand...a kneeling Prince was too much.
He'd said that he felt as if he'd already lost some of his purity to Jocelyn, kissing her apparently he did not like. Evie kneeled down once more and took his face in her hands and focused her eyes on his. She loved him so and could not stand to lose him. Evie leaned forward and kissed him tenderly on the lips, nothing passionate or strong but simple. She only wanted to make him feel better, not worse.
"Please stand my Prince." Evie whispered against his lips.

Iago watched her walk over, and closed his eyes when she kissed him. It was a tender kiss, and oh how he'd missed the feeling of her lips against his. He obeyed and took her in his arms, standing up together, still looking into her eyes.
"Why me?" he whispered in a cracking voice. "What have I done, to deserve a situation like this?" he said, blinking back a tear. "I want to be with you, the woman I love, and instead I have to pretend I love some hag, and you have to watch that...it breaks my heart to even think of how much pain I'm causing you, Evie..." he whispered in the same tone of voice.

εviε Evie wrapped her arms around him and closed her eyes, she enjoyed being with him and loved it when he held her but now he was torn up because of Jocelyn. She didn't like hearing his voice on the brink of tears and she kissed his cheek and his neck and ran her hands over his chest as she'd done much earlier in the day.
"It does not pain me Iago, to see you with that woman." Evie lied for his benefit, she did not want to see him in pain anymore. She swore revenge on the woman that started it all.
"And you have done nothing to deserve such punishment my sweet. You have been nothing but kind and generous and I love you so much." Evie kissed him again and again to get her point across, each time she wanted to break down in his arms and cry to him but she did not. She needed to be strong now.

Iago attempted a smile, knowing she still loved him, but he knew she was lying when she said it didn't pain her. There was no way it didn't pain her, and he knew that.
"Evie...what do we do?" he whispered, looking her in the eye. "I want to be together, but...I can't keep making up excuses. I have one excuse to see you tomorrow...but I don't know how long I can keep her away from me, or keep her off of me." he said, putting a hand on her cheek.
"But...no matter what happens...Evie, I loved you before, I love you know, and I'll love you forever." he said, before kissing her deeply on the lips, putting all his feelings for her into the kiss. Please, forgive me.

εviε In all honesty, Evie didn't know what to do. She was as lost as he was in the situation. What more could he do? They could not be together without hurting him and she wanted that least of all. She loved him dearly and tried to pass that feeling along as she kissed him back. Evie felt him kiss her and knew he was tortured, trying to portray his feelings for her through the touch of their lips. Oh how she would come to miss the feeling when she went away. That was her plan, to tell her how much she loved him and then run away. Maybe if she left him, he would come to love Jocelyn as he should have in the first place. Evie being there only hindered the relationship that could have come from Iago and Jocelyn.
"I love you Iago and I can love no other ever again...you've completely taken my heart...and I will give you yours to take back. I will leave tomorrow night and maybe then you will be able to give your heart to Jocelyn as it should rightly be." Evie said when she broke the kiss, as much as she hated to. She took his hand from her cheek and pressed it against her chest over her heart.
"It will always be yours."

Iago couldn't believe what she was saying. She was leaving? No, she couldn't be...
"Evie, please..." he whispered, his eyes rimming with tears again. "Don't do that to me, please...I'm begging you, Evie, stay here, stay with me. We'll figure something out, and if we can't I'll leave with you." he told her, fully intending to. It would be too easy to simply leave a note on his bedside table, a suicide letter, and slip away into the night, never to be found again.
"I don't want to leave you...Evie, if you do this, and I'm forced to marry Jocelyn, it will destroy me. My heart is torn as it is..." he blinked a few times, but he couldn't stop it: a tear came out, then another, and he wrapped Evie in a tight hug, as if he could keep her from going just by holding her here.

εviε Evie could not understand why he was being so stubborn. Why could he not just let her go? She was trying to be strong for him and give up the fight so that things would be so much easier for him but he insisted that she stayed. If she were to stay then his heartache would continue to get stronger and stronger until it claimed him fully. Evie could not allow such things to happen and did not want him to love her at this point. She knew she'd have to do something, say something so vile and riddled with venom that it broke him and severed his connection to her once and for all. Maybe then he would be able to let her go and move on. Evie closed her eyes and let him hug her, she loved his arms going around her body and loved being pressed so tightly against him. She would engrain the feeling into her heart and mind forever.
"Iago, I have a confession." Evie took in a deep breath and went on, her heart urging her to stop. "My love for you was feigned. The whole time." Her teeth gritted tightly together, keeping her from shedding any tears. "I knew you were falling for me and I knew this was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of you. You are a Prince and as such, I knew you and your family were rich beyond belief. I needed to get to you so that I could get to your riches and now that I am here, I do not want it but I do not love you Iago." Evie knew the last bit would send her over the edge, she felt as if her entire being had been shattered by her own words. She felt weak and dirty now...like trash.

Iago's eyes widened at her words, and let her go instantly, stepping back. They echoed painfully in his head. Feigned?
"Evie..." he said, unable to believe it. His world was crashing down around him. There was no good in this world. He alone held goodness.
"You...I can't believe it...I loved you fully...I would put my life in your hands..." he couldn't take it anymore. He turned away so she couldn't see him, and clenched his fists, and for the first time since he was a young child, he cried. He truly cried.

εviε Evie's mouth hung open as she watched him turn around. She saw his body go rigid and his fists clench tightly together. She knew he was shedding tears though this time they were because of her and stung her the most. She wanted to run to him and throw her arms around him and tell him that she loved him dearly and would do anything to save him from the heartache. That couldn't be done however, she knew she'd have to keep it up to...to finish what she'd set out to do. Evie felt she had no heart now, it had been shattered and broken and trampled on and now she felt nothing but the coldness that had embodied her. His words rang in her ears, that he loved her fully and his life would have been in her hands had the need come up.
Oh Iago...please....one day you must forgive me. I love you with my whole being and always will. When you fall in love with Jocelyn...I will still love you. There will be no other love for me from this point onward, you are my one and only and will be until the day I die. Even in death will I love you.
"I am sorry it must end this way...I wanted to end it in a more...savory manner but I found it hard to keep up this ploy as it seemed to have hurt you." Evie kept her voice emotionless. "I could not keep this up because I knew you had fallen for me entirely and I had not planned on that happening. Again I apologize."

Iago shook his head, sniffling a little. "No, Evelyn." he said, using her full name. So she was leading him on? Well, he would go to being how she was to him.
"I didn't hurt me. It gave me strength." he looked over his shoulder. He was no longer crying, but tears streaked his face, and his eyes still watered.
"I thank you for one thing though. You have shown me that in this world, there is no good. I am alone." he turned back and walked toward her window with shaky legs.
"I will come by your forge tomorrow. I have some business to complete. You will have, ready for me, a hunting knife, an axe, and a rucksack, should you have one. You will also provide a whetstone to sharpen my tools. After that...it will be the last time you, Jocelyn, or anyone sees me." he told her seriously. He couldn't marry Jocelyn, and he couldn't have Evie now. He would flee, and either find a new town, or live out his days as a hermit.

εviε No one ever used her full name, not even her family. No one dared do it because everyone knew she hated her full name...though Iago used now. She could not speak, her tongue seemed to have dried up and her mouth unable to move. Evie knew she'd broken him...maybe too well. Her act was a hard one to keep up and she knew that if he did not leave soon then she would run to him and tell him that she was lying and that she really, truly loved him. Evie saw the tears that had run down his cheeks and bit her tongue, hard. A coppery taste welled up in her mouth and she grimaced but said nothing.
You are not alone my love...I will always be by your side. Evie wanted to say it, she nearly did but she knew after her act he would never believe her ever again. Nothing she could say at this point could turn him back around to her. Evie did what she swore she would never do...she broke his heart.
"You are running away? I knew you were a coward." Evie shook her head in disbelief, the love of her life was about to completely walk out of her life altogether.

"What am I to do?" Iago asked, turning to face her. "I thought you loved me. I was willing to give it all up for you, because I loved you with my whole being. But you led me on. I can't have the love of my life, so my happiness is gone. I realized how well people can lead others on, and that's destroyed my ability to love again. Jocelyn is the worst possible person in the world, and if I married her, I would end up killing myself." he said, and it was likely to be true.
"My parents ruin this town. Jocelyn would make me ruin it even more. You've ruined me. I've got nothing left but me, now. I've got my own shattered soul, and my conscience. Yes, I'm running away, to save my life, because I cannot save others." he continued.
"Where I go, I don't know. I still haven't decided on a life of solitude, or finding a small village where maybe, just maybe, I'll recover." he looked into her eyes, and for a moment, he remembered the beautiful gleam he'd seen there that made him fall in love the first time. But after that moment, it was gone.

εviε You've ruined me. The phrase bounced around in her mind and seemed to grow louder and louder as it went along. Evie found herself mouthing the words and it was all she needed to know that she really had broken the man of her dreams, he would never love her again. She'd been devising a plan while he'd been speaking the whole time, unable to hear anything other than that dreaded phrase in her ears. Once he'd left the town as he'd said he'd do, Evie would go away into her room and take her life there. She would never be able to live without her Iago and he now couldn't love her anymore. There was no more reason to live, without love she had nothing. Commoners had nothing and now she was reduced to just that, a commoner...and even worse, a commoner who could never love again. Yes, she would take her life when he'd left her and the village.
"I love you Iago." Evie whispered under her breath, unable to keep herself from saying it. She bowed her head and could not bring herself to look into his pained eyes any longer. "No one will ever make me feel the way you did...."
Evie wrapped her arms around herself and gripped tightly. She did not know how much longer she could go before she fell to the ground and screamed out in her agony.
You've ruined me. Evie could not bear what she'd done to him.
