Taking all the mentioned criteria once again into consideration, here's the last rewrite which has been upped to 2.500 pts. to incorporate some of the mentioned changes along with some extras, such as a hammerman, more handgunners, some goodies for them and another Helblaster. Two is better then one, right? More exploding if nothing less.

LORD.
Elector Count – Meteoric armour, the Sword of Sigismund and pistol. (Joins Greatswords)

HEROES.
Captain – Full plate, shield, lance and barded warhorse. (Joins knights)

Captain – Full plate, shield and halberd. (Joins halberdiers)

Captain – Full plate, shield and pistol. (Joins swordsmen)

Warrior Priest – Great weapon and heavy armour. (Joins spearmen)

CORE.

Spearmen (20) – Full command.
Handgunner detachment (10).

Swordsmen (20) – Full command.
Free Company detachment (10).

Free Company (20) – Full command.

Handgunners (10) – Marksman with longrifle.

To some degree I guess it is. In fantasy you don't get so much in the way of mixed units (Marines with Grenade Launchers and Flamers, for example) so you can focus more on the larger units.

Yeah, the set rules make it easier. Like the set ranks and stuff, now having 5 ranks to get a thingy bonus it's usually fair obvious how many you're gonna have and such.

I would put the Warrior priest with the Free Company unit, but instead of two Helbaster volley guns I'd throw in some Flagellants. I'm guessing you give your core troops armor right? Other than that it looks pretty good.

Ahem, how is Kurt supposed to see with that skull in the way?

Its a nice enough model (reminds me too much of mounted Isildur mind) but Kurt himself is too top heavy and doesn't look like he is actually useful in a fight. Of course the little people will like him but I can't help but see him running into a brick wall whee

On second thoughts after looking at him again I find its the helmet and skull that aren't working for me *shrugs*, I get lizardmen so I don't even know why I'm bothering with him redface .

Quite a good model I think, but the skull is something of a turn off.

It looks like the Empire Handgunners are gonna' be quite different from the existing one. Sucks.

I mean the existing ones are truly horrid, but it make it difficult to mix in an easthetically pleasing way.

Well, the new handgunners will come in a boxed set with option of building them as handgunners or crossbowmen obviously. I like the new look, heavier looking weapons that are not yet that far ahead in time. Though the mechanism is one of a flintlock, I found the matchlock more fitting for rank and mass soldiers.

Yeah.

They do look good, I like the handheld cannon they have.

Just will make a pain of mixing them with oldies, no?

Awww, but that means the Militia won't have crossbow bits anymore! Nuuuu!!!! But I do LOVE the new look for the guns. Princess Mononoke style! xd

I had also heard a rumour that the Empire was getting some form of missile launcher-type weapon that would basically be a weaker long-range Helblaster. Which might be cool, but I'm still going to be pissed if they don't make the Hochland Long Rifle better.

Cannon was I guess a 'metaphor' for the size of the gun.

Remove bitz from the militia sprue? You are babbling, you know that right? If GW were to remove parts they'd have to re-do the whole mold, costing them a small fortune in revision and casting costs. The crossbows will stay on the militia sprues!

If that's the case then they won't come in the Handgunner sprue. 3nodding
