True, although their origins will vary depending on which fantasy realm you are delving into. In the case of Norrath, Innoruuk, the prince of hate, became infuriated with jealousy upon being left out of the creation process for intelligent races that would inhabit the planet and kidnapped the king and queen of the elves {Tunare's prized creation}. After subjecting them to rigorous and grueling torture, their spirits were completely broken. He then pieced them back together to his liking, thus creating the Tier'Dal {dark elves}.
You have no idea what any of that means.

Partially true, but also partially false. I haven't gotten into D&D, but I recognize the abbreviation when I see it. I have not seen many people include the A, even if AD&D is what they play. For him to not have recognized the D&D aspect of the abbreviation is a little shocking.
You are in the same boat as Maune and still don't know what is being talked about.
