Raeth+exe Talamascan I dislike shopping there. I usually only go there to buy band shirts or make-up because I can't shop online. I dislike how their fashion is what people usually use to define 'goths'. plus they are really pricey. I mean, $50 for a pair of pants? I can probably buy a pair of shoes for less. The only things I have gone there for are my neon eye makeup and the JTHM comics. And that's why. Everything there is poorly made, I don't think they'd last me more than a week, and I'm not paying 50$ for a pair of pants. EVER. I don't even pay 50$ for a pair of shoes. The most expenisve thing I have are my lace-up combats for 120$ and my leather trenchcoat for $200. I am a cheapskate. And Hot Topic is run by the Gap anyways. If I wouldn't shop there, I won't shop at Hot Topic either. I go to Freestyles, they sell all the stuff I want except the comics and makeup. They had JTHM comics? D8 It took me months of looking through Borders and B&N all over the place, over and over again to find those... and Hot Topic had them!

That's a pretty loose usage of "evil" lol Mini skirts aren't evil; they're just tasteless.

Hot Topic caters to whatever the most popular type of deviant style is at the time, so poseurs can go there and buy whatever and look like a real deviant. They can't sell unpopular deviant clothing because if they did they couldn't make any money. Sad, but true.

I got ticked off at Hot Topic in 2003. That's when the two in my city both stopped carrying the things that had drawn me in in the first place — velvet dresses, long skirts, corsets. Frankly, I've seen nothing in there in the last three years that fits my personal definition of 'goth' (though I'm aware that there are others which are equally valid).
I have nothing against the store — they sell what makes money, and more power to them — but there's nothing in it that I'm interested in buying.

I like to stop in just to see if they have anything new. I did buy a jacket with buckles that I like, and this zip up sleeveless shirt that I wear over my swimsuit.

Not "Underground High-Fashion" or "Rebellious Gear". They're a MAINSTREAM store selling POPULAR music and POPULAR, MAINSTREAM fashion.

I agree, I wish they'd sell more classic romantigoth clothes. But I got a really nice corset for Christmas that came from Hot Topic, it's beautiful! They still have corsets, just maybe not as many as they used to. Nowadays I think Hot topic is catering more to the punkish goth crowd than the classic goths.

Most of the sales-people are nice, and I like some of the things they sell. I mostly get jewelry, and occationally screen-tees. Hot Topic and Spencer's Gifts are the only places to get most band merch where I live.

But they really aren't trying to "cater", so much as "Milk every penny they can"

Hot Topic has decent body jewelry and the like. I've never bout makeup from them and have had problems with they hair dye they sell. I do most of my clothing shopping online anymore. The HT I go to isn't overrun by preps like I keep hearing, and the employees there are mega awesome, so for that it's pretty wort it. And I have gobs of fun taking my pious little Christian friends in there by force. XD

Hot Topic and Spencer's Gifts are the only places to get most band merch where I live. Yeah, the sales-people are great. Hot Topic is one of the few stores I don't get followed around in, but maybe that's because they're used to people like me, whereas other stores tend to stereotype and profile punk/goth/alternative teenagers. Personally I would love to work there, mainly because of the discounts, and they don't have the Disney Stick up their asses as far as tattoos and piercings go, I heard you're allowed to wear whatever you want to work. Only problem is, you have to know a lot about music in order to work there.
