Ditto.
But I still got to experience almost all of those things.
When I was a kid, I lived on a naval base in southern California. My dad was usually deployed overseas, and when he wasn't, he was working. My mom didn't work, but she partied every night, so she spent the day sleeping off her hangover. I made sure my two younger sisters got breakfast and dressed. Then we would go out and not come back until the sun began to set.
We climbed trees (one of my sisters fell out of a tree and broke her arm), rode bikes without helmets, played war, hide and seek, climbed onto the roofs of the military housing, and wandered the Navy Exchange, the local gas station, and the Commisary. We usually stole something for lunch or a snack and even stole video games, toys, and one time, an Easy-Bake Oven! I still can't believe we never got caught. Remember when McDonalds offered the free miniature ice cream cones? We went there and got those. There was an abandoned mansion where some guy hung himself and we used to sneak in there and hang out or explore. Across from that was what we called 'the witch's park.' It was an old, bleak-looking park that was usually vacant and the equipment was older than dirt. Oh, and sometimes we'd do chores for a friends' mom and get some cash, and we'd use that to go to the Bowling Alley or to get an even bigger ice cream from McDonalds. We went to the movie theater if we got a bunch of money. I remember the last movie we saw ("Junior" with Arnold Schwartzenager (I know it's spelt wrong, lol) and Danny DeVito). When we were especially bored, we went to the museum.
Despite all that, we knew to never wander outside the base. We were too scared to anyway because we thought we'd get locked out it we did manage to get past the gate guard. And that would make mom angry. And we NEVER wanted to make mom angry. o_o
When for some reason we couldn't go outside (nasty weather was usually the culprit), we would stay in our rooms (quietly) and play video games, watch movies, play with our Barbies, or play pretend. Our favorite pretend game was Mario, but I was usually stuck playing Mario or Bowser while my sisters argued over who got to be the Princess, and they usually ended up both being the Princess. xD
I don't think mom knows to this day what kind of trouble we got ourselves into.
