That's a load of crap that he's told you, I'm afraid. Both yaoi and yuri are made for straight females. The idea that it represents a hetero relationship for each genre means that it's not for lesbians.
So following that idea, would that also mean that if a guy likes shoujo more than shounen he is more likely to be gay?

Yup; I have noticed. I wish more guys when at least be open to the idea and not be all, "OMG! GROSS!!"

They're all for the girl-on-girl stuff, but when you tell them about the guy-on-guy stuff, they freak out.
