Kyo nodded and watched as the game progressed. Everything sounded simple enough, so maybe he'll like this game.

As the game went on, it got tougher, less spaces and more possibilities for smaller words.

By now, Kyo was struggling with trying to form some more words. It was a bit hard to make words without putting them down diagonally, which was against the rules.

Gikishou watched him. "Try thinking of shorter words, or synonyms to words if it helps." he told him.

"Shorter words?" Kyo repeated. He looked at the letters he had, but it didn't seem like any of them could be made into words.

Gikishou nodded. "Actually..." he checked the rules. "If you can't make anything, you can use this turn to put those letters back in the bag and take out the same amount. Then when it's your turn again you can put something down."

Kyo nodded, signalling that he understood, and did exactly as Giki-san had said. Up until now, he hadn't had to return some letters and then take out some more. Now that he did, he can understand why Giki-san and his family had done the same thing before.

The game continued until, finally, nobody could think of any words to play. "Alright... the person with the highest score is... Kyo."

At hearing his name, Kyo felt really proud of himself. The game had only been his first and he ended up with the highest score. In his case, this was a rare occasion considering that he hardly ever played games.

Gikishou ruffled his hair, hugging him as everyone else congratulated him as well. "Feel like you're part of the family now? We've got more games."

"I guess you can say I feel more like a part of the family," Kyo said, smiling a little. He didn't feel completely like a family member, but that didn't mean he never would, right?

Gikishou smiled and hugged him. "That's better, at least. You guys want me to make some banana splits in celebration of the victory and our parent's return?"

"You don't have to," Kyo said rather hurriedly. "Actually, you can make some for yourself and your parents. I don't really need one."

His mom chuckled. "Nobody ever 'needs' a banana split, hun. It's celebratory, and you've earned it."

Once again, Kyo wasn't sure how to respond to that. In all reality, he didn't think a small win in a game really called for a banana split. It wasn't a bad thing, but he just didn't think he deserved one in the first place.
