I am wanting to try my new laptop with either Mass efect or Dragon Age, but my somewhat tight budget allows only one of them, what are your recommendations?

Why not go with WWW.GOG.COM wink

A Polish company that re-releases classic titles from days gone by and allows you to run them on modern day systems. I got Arcanum (tons and tons of gameplay, still need to finish it!), Police Quest and some of the Settlers games.

Personally I'd say go with Mass Effect, which a great scifi game with a good story and a real sense of space opera. Plus some of the best game music I've heard in a whole. I like Dragon Age, but it has some really stupid moments, not to mention it tends to get insanely hard at the end.

Issue of also roping you into a long finale without warning you about it prior. Unlike ME where it does warn you.

Both games seem to have a thing for fatalistic suicide missions.

Saints row was all about being a big jerk and having a laugh. Nothing says "******** you, I'm having fun" more than spraying s**t onto grannies with a french mime behind the wheel.

Game design has grown stagnant.

Finished Dragon Age 2 yesterday. It was.. meh. Too short, too fatalistic and well, sometimes it felt like the cinematics were just there to shove you into directions you explicitly did not opt for. At least the combat is better and easier. Plus we all likes Varric. But not the pirate hooker, she's annoying.

It's not all suicide missions, but in most cases the "clock" is ticking! It's not that bad if the plot is good enough! surprised

* We've got 150 days to find a new water chip!
* We've got to stop these terrorists in Las Vegas and find the traitor who sold us out!
* Russia has invaded the US, but we won, now the evil wizard must be stopped through time travel!
* Our village is dying, find us a G.E.C.K.!
* FIND THE BOY!
* Jerry is in Caen, we must stop him from ruining Operation Overlord!
