I cannot help but get more and more unnerved at the growing phenomena of fangirls, in particular rabid fangirls. As some may/may not know I'm writing a manga with a good friend of mine, and the comments from the people who read it are, quite frankly just plain terrifying eek We have completed one chapter and we already have two girls 'claiming' one of the characters. For the first few weeks we had normal stuff encouragement, applause....but then we got the more quirky and....rabid comments like:
Quote: *hugs Niko and runs away with him before you can finish the manga. *rampaging fangirls follow.
Quote: DAMMIT! I CAN'T CONROL IT ANYMORE! THAT GUY'S FREAKING HAWT!
Quote: *steals chris's soul...puts in bottle...cackles maniacally* I think part of it is that it's a Boy's love/yaoi manga (long story behind that) and that usually attracts the REALLY frightening ones (bouncing around conventions chanting "yaoi yaoi yaoi!!!")
It just seems strange that it's mainly girls prone to this, I don't remember seeing any guys jumping up and down saying "yuri yuri yuri!!" (maybe because when guys watch hentai/yuri they get labelled pervs - double standards I know).
But what really gets on my nerves is that because of this group any female fan of an anime/manga is automattically thought of in this way, for some reason I don't like people thinking that I worship yaoi and only read a manga if it has some guy/guy action stare sure I read it, it's fun - usually quite funny and there is no quicker way of getting some git who's annoying you away than showing him two guys kissing - but it just pisses me off when I get some idiot going on about how girls only ever read yaoi and then go on at guys for watching yuri and calling them perverts for it (when the person has no idea who I am, or what my opinions are).
It is at this point I refer back to my earlier rant on my thought of guys..... stare most of the male population here I live are idiotic bastards...maybe it's something in the water that causes the y chromosone to release stupid hormones.
But back to my rant, I personally have no qualms about hentai/yuri/yaoi and the like (ok, the tentacle porn is disturbing, esecially the rape ones) it is when people think that I'm going to be a hipocrit and hate then for watching hentai/yuri that really gets on my nerves....I read yaoi! Why would I think anything of a guy reading yuri?!
But this rant was about rabid fangirls wasn't it.
There is also a growing lunicy at conventions, some people can't even cosplay as someone without getting either modded by fangirls glomping the heck out of them or getting random people shouting at them "I can't believe you cosplayed as *insert character name* I HATE them/you" the glomping, I'm sure is fun....for about the first 10 attacks, then I bet it gets old real quick. But the attacks just on your costume is just plain stupid and idiotic
Fangirls = scary....

ceilisidhe I have been in numerous threads, spoken to many IRL and have found the general ignorance of the essence of Samhain to be sickening. Not only have many forgotten about the seelie/unseelie duality but they are unaware of Halloween's meaning as well! Has it gone the way of christmas only instead of being commercialization and company money-grubbing it's become candy-grubbing? I mean, even those parents who drill "never take candy from strangers" into their childrens' minds gleefully send their young out into the cold to.....request candy from strangers-which, incidentally, has become a scientific process what with adults guaging which neighborhoods are infested w/ yuppies who attempt to outdo all others by giving out full-sized candybars and such by the truckloads. Pisses me off to no end-almost as much as those who either pretend to be away/asleep or blatantly refuse to answer their doors! Bastards one and all, I say, who suck feces through a straw. They deserve what befalls them. I don't advocate illegal activity but there's a reason things are done this way-it should be remembered well. Heh, you REALLY shouldn't go to the UK for a Halloween. Ever. To most people it is thrown away as an American thing, created by the sweets companies (seriously on this). Some people have only a slight knowlage of what the original Samhain was - the pagan festival, but again it is spoiled by xtians saying that haloween has a sinister and evil undertones stare
Side note on the Seelies/Unseelies, they are actually two of the Scottish Fey courts, there a a lot more just that they have been mostly forgotten but the principles are the same - Samhian is the day that they let down ther guards of their sidhe and let the dead and fey walk about.

I didn't want to scare others by going into too much detail...I'm saving it up for a coming holiday twisted
