I've always been open to this stuff, so it wasn't horrific. But when I first heard that people were putting straight couples together I was like -> eek "How could you do that to best friends?!?!" But then I got into anime and was like..."He is so in love with him." Or, "You know you want to kiss him." Or even "How cute! They're hugging!"
'Tis the evolution to a yaoi fangirl. (Now it's all I buy XD )

I started reading fanfictions about Yu-Gi-Oh! back in 8th grade. I was a pretty oblivious kid, having grown up in the heart of Conservative Christian Republican Oklahoma. I had never even considered the idea that anime characters could be gay....or anyone for that matter. (I'd never met a gay person in my life! How sad is that!?)
So, considering my mindset, I took to it really well. I just stumbled across a fanfic written in first person from the perspective of Yuugi, and starts out with an introduction to Yuugi's mindset, in which he says that he's bisexual, and that the boys in school pick on him because of it. And I just thought that perspective was so refreshing and original that I was instantly fascinated by it.
I went on the read the rest of the fic, which I still love to this day, 4 years later. The entire thing is very enjoyable because of the author's fresh take on the, generally, bland and overdone YGO fandom.

I was talking to a friend two years ago, and she introduced me to her favorite pairing (YamixYugi of "Yu-gi-oh!"). At first I was "Oh, ok" and didn't really care. But when I read a fanfic with that pairing--a really good one, btw--I fell in love! Now it's my top favorite couple! 4laugh heart

i got talked into yaoi...lol my friend Ari kept talking about Gravitation DJ's and when she went to conventions that she would get mad if nothing happened in the DJ's she bought.
so i was curious and watched gravitation.
and i also kinda stumbled upon yaoi when i was reading Tokyo Mew Mew fanfiction... a hto scene between Keiichiro and Ryo. at first i was like "wtf?" but you know i reread that fic a few months later and realized how awesome that fic was.

hmm... it's hard for me to really remember the first exposure to it... my first exposure online was on a webcomic I usually read. One of the main characters was writing a story and the story ended up being the comic for a little bit. It mentioned shonen-ai, and so I had to learn what that was... My first reaction to it was, "Ooooh... so that's what it is..." The second portion of my reaction was "Oh my god!!! Cute!!".

I was introduced in (I believe) 11th grade. My friend Sumii had a book from japan with a bunch of YGO doujinshi some other doujin, and some adds for other yaoi. I distinctly remember this one picture in an add with Taichi and Yamato, and Yamato was making the most adorable face. I really wish I could find that picture again...
Anyway, I've been a yaoi fangirl ever since.

My introduction to Yaoi was through Gundam Wing. I was over at a friends house reading fanfiction and we stumbled across some lemons f Trowa and Quatre. Well being a Quatre fangirling twit at the time I freaked the hell out and insisted he was not gay by any stretch of the imagination. I am not really certain when I started to absolutely love it but shounen ai and Yaoi grew on my and now I am a die hard fan ^^ You should see my growing collection of manga.

My first taste was of a Cardcaptor Sakura fanfic. At first I didn't know what it was let alone that it was even a genre. My first thought was, "Wow this is really weird." and "There's no way they would really do this." I read the same fics over and over again and realized that one hot guy plus one hot guy equals two hot guys.
The formula worked well enough to make research it a little more. I don't really know exactly at what point it went from a mere curiosity to a full blown obbsession but that doesn't matter.
