In the morning, Riley and her pokemon ate a quick breakfast before Riley headed for the museum by herself. Seul, being an absol, and Kuraz, with his outfit, both stood out a little too much. When she stepped inside, Riley felt like she was back on a school trip. In tune with the mining town Oreburgh was, there were plenty of rocks and fossils on display. There was just one person at the front desk, and only a child and his mother making their way through the exhibits. As Riley began walking around, they left. The only sounds were Riley's own footsteps, the blowing of the air conditioning, and the soft click of the secretary's mouse as she played solitaire.

At lest this time, it seemed Riley had made it here before Mael. "I wish I knew what he took last time..." she mumbled to herself, reading the plaques for all the different things on display. She didn't really know what he might be after, but the museum only had a few rooms. She found a spot in one lo-traffic room, in the corner out of sight of the woman at the front desk. She released Kuraz, who examined their surroundings sharply. Then they settled in to wait.

After waiting a while, Riley had to get up and stretch her legs. She was about to mumble about being bored when she heard thunder rumbling in the distance. "Ah!" she squeaked. Kuraz shifted at her exclamation and Riley hurriedly covered her mouth. She really, really didn't like thunder. Within minutes, the sunlight streaming in through the windows had dimmed. Clouds overhead caused the museum to fall into a quiet dusk. The still air felt charged. Kuraz held up a paw to silence Riley, his gaze intense.

The first raindrop, big and fat, splattered against the roof. Then another, and another. As the drone of a thousand drops began, the air started to feel cool. Kuraz leaned forward to look around the corner and stiffened. Riley slowly joined him and froze at what she saw. The woman at the front desk was slumped over. O-out cold? Then she heard it, the footsteps muffled by the now-pounding rain, as they entered the room to the right of Riley and Kuraz's hiding place. Riley pulled out her pokegear and sent a message to the police department. Kuraz glared at her, but Riley stubbornly sent the message. That lady might be hurt, and she wasn't going to delay calling for help. Besides, they would still have some time to fight Mael.

Riley met Kuraz's eye, and they both nodded. Kuraz stalked forward carefully, out into the main hall and then towards the second large room. "Mael!" he roared, leaping into the other room, right at the back of the cloaked figure there. "Kuraz. Again." From the other room Riley heard a crash, but she hurried with what she was doing. Niko, Seul, and Vanyel stood before her, and Mael no doubt could sense them, but Kuraz was distracting him for just that. "Okay Vanyel." The kirlia looked to Seul for reassurance before closing his eyes. Psychic power began to flow around him in a flash. "What-!?" Mael cried, sensing the unexpected surge. The power disappeared as soon as it rose, but suddenly appeared again behind him.
Vanyel's teleport ended, leaving Riley, Niko, and Vanyel in position to attack. Riley had only a moment to take in the situation: Kuraz was fighting Mael's dark black charizard and Mael was half-turned towards them. "Niko, hydro pump, help Kuraz! Seul, get Mael!" Niko rushed forward, leaping high and shooting a powerful torrent of water from his mouth. It slammed into the charizard, knocking its deadly talons away from Kuraz. The Lucario seized the moment and surged forward, planting an aura-enhanced fist into his foe's exposed stomach. The charizard roared and crashed into the wall.
Seul leaped toward Mael, sailing through the air. Riley just barely caught Mael's face in what looked like a smile before light exploded from him. Seul paused, shaking his head, and Mael's pitch-black gardevoir stood before him, dress billowing. "Chandra." She raised her arms, summoning a dark ball of energy. Mael held aloft two pokeballs. "These are what you want?" Riley's heart tightened. She was sure he could make out a bulge in his cloak, too- it was the egg Kuraz was after. "Seul!" Riley cried out, "Dark Pulse!" Seul dug in his claws and leaped forward, his horn beginning to glow. Seul flew towards Chandra, and as their two attacks threatened to meet, Seul and the absolite hung under the fur of his neck began to glow. When the smoke cleared, both Seul and Chandra were still standing, but Riley was gone.
While Seul was attacking, Riley had grabbed Vanyel's hand and they had both teleported behind Mael's defenses. "Give them back!" she cried out, leaping as high as she could towards his hands. "You think you'll get me twice with the same trick?" He sounded disappointed. Mael caught the back of Riley's neck and pulled her down into a knee aimed right for her stomach. "I commend you for joining the battle yourself. Most would not." His voice was too calm, mocking Riley and Kuraz for all the effort and worry they had put into this!
Vanyel stepped forward to help, but Chandra glanced his way. The gardevoir's glare froze him in place. Shivering, he may have never moved again if Seul hadn't howled and thrown himself towards her. She looked away to deal with him and Vanyel was released. He quickly teleported to Riley's side and then teleported her away to safely. "Th-hhh....thanks..." Riley was on all fours, curled around her belly. She felt like she couldn't breath, and her neck felt hot from where he'd touched her. She took in Seul fighting with Chandra and Kuraz and Niko both pitted against the rampaging charizard. Mael himself had strode to a display, smashed it open, and pocketed the rock within. From her place on the floor, Riley couldn't make out what he'd taken. Not...again...we're not going to lose again!
Riley released Hubble, and sent him running at Mael. "Niko, discharge!" Riley cried. Niko planted himself on the ground, fur crackling with electricity, and howled as he released a huge pulse of power. It flew in a ring, blasting everyone, even Riley and Mael, with a painful shock. Hubble, however, was unaffected. He ran straight for Mael and leaped, creating an earth power attack under his feet to launch himself into the air. He chomped down on Mael's arm, causing the man to release Riley's pokeballs. Seul darted forward, knocking them back towards Riley while just barely managing to block Chandra's next attack. Riley scrambled forward, and when her hands closed around the pokeballs she felt with absolute surety that she would never let go. With a tingling adrenaline flowing through her, Riley realized that her pokemon were pushing Mael's back. We might be able to-
"Freeze!" Officer Jenny stood in the hall's entryway, gun pointed right at Mael. Chandra shifted back to Mael's side. "No! Mael!" Kuraz yelled, streaking forward with extreme speed. But he was too late. Mael, Chandra, and the charizard disappeared in a flash, leaving Riley alone surrounded by a very, very smashed museum exhibit.

After the battle Riley explained what had happened to Officer Jenny, Noel and Nima's pokeball's clenched tight in her hands. She could see someone speaking to the woman at the front desk, who thankfully had just been put to sleep. While she was talking, Riley noticed Kuraz standing right where Mael had disappeared. In his hands was an egg. Kuraz stared down at it, his gaze unreadable. For whatever reason, Mael had left it behind.

Riley was tired, though, and as soon as Officer Jenny was done, she and Kuraz and the rest of her pokemon headed to the pokemon center for a much deserved rest. The rain had stopped, making Riley wonder if Mael had somehow brought it to help in his heist. That didn't matter much now, though. With a warm feeling, Riley remembered again that Noel and Nima were safe now. When they got to the pokemon center, Riley released them, and hugged them, and cried and said she was sorry over and over. Nima, who had felt out of place her whole life because of the color of her fur, was just happy to be back with Riley, who was her first family. Noel was glad too, since he thought Riley was a lot more fun that that guy who'd had their pokeballs for a while.

After they had rested and Riley's pokemon were healed, Riley knew it was probably time to say goodbye to Kuraz. She didn't want to, though, so instead she let out Zeke to take them back to Twinleaf Town. Riley wanted to visit home, let her parents know she was okay, and she needed an excuse to not say goodbye to Kuraz right away.

Brian gave a bit of a shrug. "I guess so. Can't really decide what you want if you don't know what you have, or will get, I guess," he replied thoughtfully. Mel pursed her lips together and looked off to the side. "But hey," he added, grinning and giving her a thumbs up as she looked back at him, "At least you can rely on Horsea and I for water typing!" She smiled and rolled her eyes a bit. "Right, right... when are you going to name that thing, anyway?" she remarked, casually shifting topics as they walked onto the route leading to the next town, "It's been like... ten years or something, hasn't it?"

Raising an eyebrow, Brian scratched his scruff, scrunching up his face a bit as he looked up. "Dunno..." he commented, as if wondering over it himself. Mel pressed her lips together into a thin line, but it was mostly to keep from smiling too much. She had to admit, she found that kind of cute. Brian's general demeanor, his scruffiness, his messy-sort-of-messy-sort-of-not, look. It was endearing. There was nothing romantic between the two of them, of course. If anything, they were like one another's gay best friend, without either of them actually being gay. Probably. They had just known each other so long that they both knew there was no chance of there being anything 'more' there. Mel had tried, countless times, to help girls get close to Brian-- she'd tried, just as much, if not more, to help Ian get over his fear and get close to girls. It never really worked, but she was there for him, and he was pretty good at being there for her, too. He really was her best friend... besides, maybe, Z, of course. The Zygarde was smarter, and a lot more available, when it came to having someone to lean on in times of need.

Mel turned her gaze forward. "Well, whatever you end up calling it, hopefully I won't have to borrow it much. I do plan to get a water pokemon of my own, at some point," she mused, "I'm just... not quite sure which one...""Maybe a Wooper or a Mudkip? They're dual ground... Guess you've got Z for that typing, though," Brian remarked, eying the legendary a bit. "Or maybe a Skrelp? They're kinda cool. Evolve into dragon poison, though." Mel smiled some. It was weird to hear Bri actually sound smart. "Poison's not bad. Don't think I'll be getting one of them," she admitted. She looked curiously at Lucy, who blinked and perked up, turning to look back at her. "You know, I should probably try and look into your moveset..." she mused.

And touch down. For once, Dova landed without the chaotic danger to herself or Lafayette. And for once, he was proud of her for it. He gave her a pat on the side of her head and a nuzzle which she affectionately returned. As reward, he let her stay out for a bit, while he cased the town. It was a mining town, full of dirt and rocks and other things, kind of like Pewter. Which probably meant that the gym leader was also a rock or ground-type user. His team was already reasonably strong, so the battle probably wouldn't take all that long. With a nod, he gestured to Dova to come along, beginning his trek through the city to find the gym insignia that would identify the gym. It wasn't long before he found it and sure enough, it was as the blonde suspected. Great, this fight would be over in no time.

It didn’t take long for Lafayette to locate the gym insignia and the gym. Nor did it take him long to get inside; he was fairly confident who team could handle what was pretty much the first gym leader of this particular region. No reason to stop and assess to be honest.
Strolling inside, he was a little surprised to find that the layout seemed all too familiar. Apparently gym leaders who shared types also shared the same layout style for their gyms. Or they were just lazy. Or really into rocks. Whatever the case was, he made his way up the and down the stone stair cases that decorated the place until he found his way to the gym field, glancing around a moment in thought.
"I’m lookin’ fah a gym battle!" Lafayette shouted, gaze swifting moving to spot the young man emerging from a nearby tunnel. He looked like a miner with the way he was dressed and was covered in dirt. The blonde’s call seemed to catch him by surprise as he emerged and soon he was on the gym battle floor, facing him off. ”Welcome! It’s been a while since someone showed up for a gym battle.” Roark remarked, taking a towel and wiping the dirt from his face as he spoke. He dropped it away and grinned, reaching for a pokeball. ”I hope you’re a tough one! My rock pokemon won’t go down that easily.” Lafayette gave a grin of his own and nodded, reaching down and letting Noah out which seemed to earn him a bit of a look. Yeah, Roark was going to regret his words rather quickly.

Roark couldn't help but emit a low whistle of impressment once their battle was concluded, stuck between awe and frustration; it was one thing to lose a battle, but to have your entire team swept, without even once landing an attack? That was something different entirely. Still though, a win was a win, and it wasn't as if he could get mad about his opponent using type advantages. "Congratulations, you really managed to shake my pokemon and I up!" From out of his pocket Roark withdrew a badge, giving it a good brushing to knock off the coal; couldn't go around giving dirty gym badges, now could he? "For that, you've rightly earned the Coal badge, and this: Stone Edge." Roark gave a tip of his helmet and a smile, "if you ever want a real challenge come back some day, I'll treat you to a battle with my real team; I have to warn you though, things'll get a little rocky."

Lafayette smiled and gave Noah a pat on the head as the Dewott toddled back to him, paws on his waist and a huge grin on his otter face. He’d pretty much blasted through the battle without taking a single scratch, but honestly, Lafayette hadn’t expected any less. As the Dewott reveled in his victory, the blonde turned his focus to Roark as he approached him and offered up his winnings.
He chuckled as he raised a hand and took the items, grin returning to his face at the mention of coming back for a rematch. "Sure mate, what’evah ya say." He remarked as he took the badge and TM, storing them away in his bag. With a wave, he turned and with Noah on his heels headed out the gym. There wasn’t reason to stick around; Noah hadn’t taken any damage so there was no reason to visit the pokemon center so he pulled out Dova’s pokeball and unleashed the Noivern again. He gave her a pat on the head and hauled up onto her back, pulling Noah on up with him before kicking the dragon into motion, starting off for the next gym battle.
