"Who said anything about killing," Severus wondered. Suddenly, his eyes widened and he bolted after Remus, calling his name. "Remus, come back. What do you mean? Remus, please talk to me."

Remus stopped and turned around near tears. "I mean last time I defended myself I killed my father...maybe. I never checked."

Severus walked up to him and pulled him close. "Defending yourself doesn't mean killing, Remus. It means being able to get your attacker to stop attacking you. Besides, if you never checked, how can you be sure you didn't kill him? How long ago was that?"

Remus nodded. He really didn't want to but he knew he couldn't hide from Malfoy forever he would find him alone eventually. "i guess i really have no other choice."

Severus kissed him lightly. "It'll be okay," he assured, not noticing the shadow that was slowly descending the stairs behind them.

Remus kissed him back. "I hope so." Remus was so concerned with Severus he didn't realize anyone else was around until it was to late. Remus snapped away from Severus. "Lucius."

Lucius was beside them in a flash. "You told me you wanted to be with me, Remus. Kissing Severus," Lucius sneered at Severus when he was mentioned, "is the same as cheating. Everyone in the school can verify that, Remus-love."
