Derek mind drew him back into memory...memories which he often wished he could just forget. Alone. He was alone and sitting in a small chair, silently observing all the other wretched children around him. Where was he? Oh, that was the orphanage. He never even knew his parents. All he knew was the dark, rundown orphanage. Suddenly somebody stepped into the room. A famous person -she was dressed up in really expensive clothing, yet had a scholarly look about her. She was a famous writer; a fairly young woman who was a novelist of a sort. The lady glanced at him. He looked up at her with his young eyes, raising his head from the book he was reading. The woman then walked slowly over to him. Bending over, she casually asked him what he was reading. Her German was certainly fluent, yet sounded different, as if she had been somewhere else. At first, he hesitated -he was not supposed to speak to strangers. Despite himself, he answered shyly, "Harry Potter Und der Stein der Weisen." The lady smiled fondly. Before Derek had even realized what was going on, he soon found himself engaged in stimulating conversation with the woman. Well, at least as stimulated as a conversation could get between a five-year-old and a woman in her mid-twenties.
A man came and tapped the lady on the shoulder, telling her that they had to leave. Derek was sad to see her depart. As she left her waved good-bye quickly and once again dove back into his book. Secretly he wondered if the nice woman would ever visit again. One day passed. Two. Three. The fourth day it was raining outside. None of the children could go out and play. He did not care, for all he really wanted to do was read his book. As he was reading, he heard footsteps coming from down the hall followed by a faintly familiar voice. Glancing up to his surprise, the woman came inside followed by a taxi driver and one of the orphanage workers. Even more surprisingly, the lady came right up to him. Gently, she grabbed his arm and whispered into his ear, "Kommen Sie mit mir, Derek Radcliffe. Sie haben ein Haus jetzt." His face went blank as his heart leapt into the ceiling. These were the words he had waited (yet did not expect) to hear from someone. In his ecstasy, he soon found himself holding on to the woman's hand as both of them were escorted out of the horrid building and out into the pouring rain. The lady held an umbrella over them. Derek looked at his hand in hers; it was so tiny, yet held warmly by the wonderful lady. Shortly afterward, he discovered what the woman's name was: Emma Wielant.

Incandescent rings of blue light cascaded downwards, at the return of Aquila, after another display of deficient gaming talent. She was still relatively new to the game so how is she to know what the heck a doppelganger, I mean in real life she knew the literal definition but how was she supposed to know that they existed in “The World”? She sighed at the thoughts of her own ignorance; she already figured that loitering at a field for too long might be the cause for its appearance, but if that is the truth then one of her favorite new found past times would be completely shot. That past time of course was gazing that the worlds starry skies, how she enjoyed going to the felids and deserts that where blanketed by an eternal night sky. One of the things that she enjoyed the most was how despite that fact that The Worlds stars at glanced seemed to be randomly placed dots in a program, there where some very subtle similarities that it shared with the sky what the real world takes for granite. The stars varied in brightness, intensity, and size just as the real ones that burn above us.

Although when she was fighting, or getting butchered by would be a more correct term, her dark clone a sad truth dawned on her she was disgustingly weak, something that she would never allow to happen in the real world; that when she immediately decided that needed to be rectified as soon as possible. There was just one problem with that, she needed others around her to make that possible, the easiest way to get PKed is to solo and the risks are high for low and mid level players. She could always join a guild, but it seemed to Aquila that that would take away from how she like to play the game, by herself for her self with a nice chat with a passer by every so often. The next solution that came to her mind was to befriend some newbies that haven’t already decided to become Pks; although twinges of disgust flooded her as she considered this thought, this game is for making friends and having fun, and not for using people so you can stare at some graphics. That’s when the third solution hit her befriend newbies with out the malicious thoughts of using them, and with the sincere objective of helping them. She moved over and sat by the save shop just waiting for a newb to come blundering into The World.
Her hand tossed around her chopped grey locks as she waited boredom had already settled in despite the fact that she has only been waiting for a few minutes; patience was not her favorite virtue. ”Will someone hurry up already…. “

Emma's summer estate in the German countryside was rather vast and beautiful. But Derek days there were few. A week after the supposed adoption documents were finally transferred, he found himself joining Emma on a flight to a place he had never even heard of: Japan. He had never been to Japan nor did he know how to speak Japanese. But Emma Wielant could speak Japanese very well. Later he discovered that she also had a job in Japan -she was a poet, a splendid one (she also was a nurse). She loved literature. Though she often was busy with her nursing school work, she always made sure to make time for her books and Derek. Every evening she always read stories to him; he became enthralled in them due to her amazing storytelling ability. Emma had no husband or even a love life, but he could care less. All he needed was her. She was his everything -happiness, security, joy, and protector.
One day she became very ill after overworking herself (as she often seemed to do) and was sent to a center in France to recuperate. Those two weeks were the loneliest ones Derek had ever went through. Though a caretaker was left to look over him, his heart ached for the lack of Emma. Why did she work herself so hard? How could such a beautiful person become so sick? When she returned, though, it seemed as if divine inspiration had struck her. Barely even reacquainting herself with him, she began writing. Derek could only wonder curiously what she was writing about. Then, instead of reading stories, she started to read him her work. Instantly Derek became excited. Her story poem was indeed divine; it held a tale of light and darkness and the battle to end it all. Enthused by his reaction, she then posted it on her own personal website. The story was becoming deeper, more intense. Soon she dubbed it a title: The Epitaph of Twilight.

Tsuyuna could no longer stand it -the silence between them was nearly unbearable. "Say somethin' already, Edin!" she shouted (out loud, to her surprise). Instantly she flushed red. "S-s-sorry...I didn't want it ta come out like that," she stuttered.

That was it. It was decided. He would solo, for now, at least until he was stronger. No one would want to befriend a n00b who didn't even know the first things about MMORPG. His crimson eyes scanned the scenery before him, taking one last glimpse at the perfected, man-made beauty of The World, and then he directed his child-like figure back inside the area known as "Dome".

The background music of Mac Anu had looped again, which was beginning to bother him. Though they had perfected an unearthly beauty, they obviously did not perfect the logic behind a "longer track." CagedBird slowly walked over to the Chaos Gate, pausing before accessing the Chaos Gate menu. The player's figure stood perfectly motionless, eyes staring not at the Chaos Gate, but seemingly through it, in an absent-like fashion.

In reality, Caged has taken off his head display mount, rubbing his eyes. Worked was getting the better of him, as he hadn't gotten much sleep in at least a week. Oh well. It was his fault for overworking himself. He put the controller down, taking a sip of his Mountain Dew. Caged then silently situated himself back into The World, scanning the people around him.

Edin sighed. "It's fine. Don't worry about it. Just watch yourself next time if you don't want it to happen again.." He felt weird saying that, since he felt like he was caring too much about someone. "I'm sorry I didn't say anything.."

Like an eagle finding a vulnerable morsel, Aquila’s eyes locked on Caged with the upmost attention. A smirk and somewhat appeased grin crawled across her face, n00bs are just easy to pick out, it almost hurts… not; the reality of it was Aquila was only be able to point him out because of her own person blunders. Also, it’s this look at they have about them, just as you can only tell how small you are as a child when your older; It’s a sad truth that we all been though.

Now here was the bigger problem. How the heck was she supposed to approach him? It’s not like she could just walk up to him, okay she could but… no just no, that’s lame. She could just follow him and help him if or when he was problems with monsters, but how would she know what area he’s going to. Gosh, stalking people is a lot harder than most people give credit to. I guess walking up to him is all she could even do.

With a faint smile Aquila took small paced steps towards Caged, her steps sound like small knocks on a piece of wood. Not wanting to startle him she gingerly tapped him on the shoulder, ”Hey do you need any help?”

"I think we can. I'll look for the area words." he said as he walked over to the Gate to go to the Chaos Gate.

"Really? Well anything works for me." Following Zeig close by, she watched him walk. "Hmmm..."

"It's not your fault that the atmosphere is so quiet." Tsuyuna said, still blushing and speaking faster than she had realized to cover up. In reality, she should have said "tense" instead of "quiet." You could almost cut the air around them with a knife. Half of the strain was because of the wait for their mysterious guest. The other half was due to the fact that something was going on between them -something which put Tsuyuna very much on edge. Though she was unsure what, all she knew was that the more she spoke to him the more awkward she felt.

To Derek, Emma seemed to become more obsessed with the Epitaph then she had with any other of her works. But later a strange man started to come and visit her when she was working. Harald Hoerwick, a German programmer, was intrigued with her poem. Though Derek was young, he could still blatantly tell that Harald was not just interested in her work, but in her as well. Apparently, though, it was only obvious to Derek that she did not return his same feelings. The man was interested in creating some sort of game based off of her Epitaph of Twilight work. Seeing a chance to possibly make greater income and fame, Emma Wielant went along with the idea. Even though things were slightly different than they had been previous, Derek did not care. As far as he was concerned, the world was at peace -Emma's career was starting to brighten, her story was a phenomenal success on the web, and now he was getting even more quality time to spend with her. Life was perfect; Derek could not have been any happier than he was then.
But that all came to an end...a very abrupt end. One day, Emma had scheduled to meet Harald somewhere and was going to get there by car. Much to his displeasure, she told Derek to remain at home and read what he wanted until she returned. Reluctantly, Derek pulled out the hand-written script of the Epitaph and began to read as she pulled out of the driveway. The story was thrilling yet seemed empty without her presence. One hour passed...two hours...four hours...six... Derek began to get anxious. Maybe she was just "having a good time" with Harald? No, she had never shown any interest in the programmer before. What could be taking her so long? By the time late afternoon hit, Derek had stopped reading the book and was now leaning against a windowsill, waiting. Suddenly a car came pulling up, but it was not Emma's. A woman, his old caretaker, stepped out from the vehicle. Before Derek realized what was going on he found himself pulled inside the car and being driven down the freeway. The nanny stopped at a main intersection and pulled to the side. There were cars with flashing lights everywhere. "Ko ko ni, Derek-san!" she told him and then quickly stepped out of the vehicle. Ignoring her wishes, Derek pried open the lock on the door, opened the door, and then leapt outside. Many cars were around now and many people. Everybody held either a sad or a shocked expression on their face. More worried now, Derek pushed through the knees of the tall adults all around him. He then got through to where he could see what they were looking at. What he saw horrified him and made him nearly feel numb. There, sitting sprawled in an inhuman position in the driver's seat of her ravaged vehicle, was Emma -paler, bloodier, and deader than a doornail.

( I'm asking Orly to reply, I don't think he's logged in for a while. D: )

Edin didn't say anything, not that he even heard what Tsuyuna said. He crossed his arms and looked up. He thought about the cat in the church, and everything that suddenly happened. The girl of the church, the illusions, and Tsuyuna, all happened so suddenly, he thought about what would have happened if he wasn't logged in.

Nero sat down, and began to talk. "I'm sure both of you know of the Epith of the twilight?"

((Thank goodness rofl !))

Tsuyuna blinked. The character sitting in front of her reminded her very much of a giant match -red at the top and pale from there down. The redhead seemed to have a spark in her eyes, a spark that Tsuyuna knew all too well. It was the same look she used to give other unsuspecting players, like a poker player who knew that they held all the cards. It felt strange to her to be on the receiving end of such a look. A shudder went down her spine. "Yes, I've done some -er- 'researching' on the topic." she replied. She glanced over to Edin, wondering how he was going to react.

Derek felt like time had stalled all around him. Everything seemed to cease all movement. In his blank trance, he approached the car where Emma Wielant lay lifeless in the drivers seat. She was pale, bloody, and contorted in the most inhumane way where the vehicle had caved in on her. Despairingly, he reached out his tiny hand towards the limp body. "Okaa-san..." he called in a void tone, for all breath seemed to have escaped his lungs. He did not know what to feel -right then, no emotion seemed to well up in him at all. Only an utter and complete emptiness was present in the now widening rift in his heart. Suddenly the nanny shrieked and rushed over to him. Time seemed to return to its normal pace as she grabbed him and picked him up in her arms, running away from the horrid scene. As Derek's head flopped over her shoulder, he then noticed Harald Hoerwick standing ten feet away. Tears were in his eyes and his face showed absolute agony. He had lost the most important woman in his life.
But Derek did not care. Suddenly he felt a wave of uncontrollable rage take hold of him. Kicking and screaming to get out of the nanny's arms, he shouted in anger at Harald, complete forgetting his Japanese. "Es ist Ihre ganze Schuld! Es ist Ihre ganze Schuld!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. "It's all your fault! If you hadn't have made her drive out this way -" The rest of the words in his mind would not come out, for now he was overcome with tears. Derek had never cried before, not like this. The tears burned in his eyes and an overwhelming pain consumed his chest. As the nanny carried him stolidly back to her car, rain began to pour down from the clouds that loomed overhead. To Derek, it seemed as if the whole entire world was grieving the loss. Little did he know the WWW (world wide web) was about to soon. For shortly after Miss Emma died the Pluto Kiss incident occurred and with it all of her present work on the Epitaph of Twilight, her memory, disappeared as well.
...Most of it, anyway. The memory faded abruptly out of Derek's mind as the threw the book, the only copy of the Epitaph which was given to him, onto the floor. He flopped down onto his bed, bitter tears clinging to the edges of his eyelids. "If only I had never met her," he choked, holding them back to keep his manly composure. If only...then he would have never known what it felt like to lose a loved one; he would have never got removed from Emma's house; he would have never lost his "Wielant" name when the adoption documents were mysteriously lost; and he would have never been given the copy of the Epitaph of Twilight. Derek groaned bitterly as he stared into the rain-filled sky outside his window.

Edin stood silent, still thinking. He didn't even hear anyone speak or the background music.

Returning to his controller, Caged was startled by the sudden sound of another voice. Everything since then had just been senseless, dark ramble about PKing, trading, and other subjects of The World. Caged quickly swiveled the camera view around to the figure speaking to, apparently, his player. She had a relatively young, tomboyish appearance to her. With her looks, however, Caged suddenly painfully realized that his character seemed more feminine that hers. Either way, now his character was staring stupidly at her, and an overwhelming sense of embarassment, shock, and fear came over him. Barely reaching her chest in height, she had an amazing sense of superiorty, even if only at level 25.

CagedBird quickly bowed to the woman in an elegant fashion, his speech stuttering through the microphone, "O-Oh, hello. S-Sorry for, um, just staring. This i-is my first time logging i-in, so some help would be appreciated." His eyes darted from side to side, as if even the mere presence of her was enough to PK him. "B-But might I ask you a question? Why w-would a level twenty-five want to h-help a newbie?" His mind immediately flashed back to the two PKers, and he made his avatar step back a step, even though weapons in town was technically impossible. The music looped once more, but all Caged heard was an uneasy silence. He could hear his heart pounding in his head, his controller was clamped in his hands, shaking rapidly.

A stifled laugh escaped Aquila’s throat, and she buckled over trying to suppress its kin; that was by far the funniest, no cutest first encounter she had ever had with a person. With her first wind of laugher gone, she tried to calm down and suppress all her other urges, like to pinch his effeminate little checks. Before she could verbally compose a reply she had to replay everything mentally. Even though it was a short lived fast forward in her mind Aquila noticed details that escaped her attention before, like his characters extremely feminine appearance, which she had noted before but didn’t truly comprehend, the fact that he bowed, and that he began to freak out after he made his plea for help. She those thoughts ravaged though her mind Aquila lapsed into an episode of laughter so instance her real self started to cry.

Man I can’t believe he bowed! That... wow… I think that just made my day! Well at least he’s polite, that’s a step up from 90 % of the general population.

She knew at this point he must have been a bit freaked out, not wanting to play the part of the psycho, she inhaled deeply as if to overload her lungs, ”Okay, first things first, you didn’t properly introduce yourself, which is rude. Now prepare yourself for a lovely little dissertation from yours truly.”

She took a step forward to bridge the gap he had made out of fear, ” I’m going to assume you are somewhat intelligent, you probably think I’m going to hurt you since I’m so many levels higher than you, because nobody is nice enough to help a n00b out of genuine kindness. Right?”
Her question was obviously rhetorical seeing as she didn’t even leave room for breath, “Now you see I was a n00b like you not long ago, actually its has been next to no time at all; and unluckily little me got PKed on my first day, some people think that’s fun I think it’s pointless there are no merits. Unlike helping people where there is the chance of meeting people and making friends.” Aquila stopped the sound of her own voice was irking her nerves.
