Unfortunately, being miserable and depressive appears to be trendy at present. neutral

Lest y'all forget what was in the first post: This is FOR FUN. Like, a modern-day version of the old "I had to walk twenty miles to school barefoot in ten feet of snow!" complaints. OK? mrgreen

xinawarrior123 Agreed. I doubt any of the oldies here would be able to survive in the middle school in my area, or the highschool, even though we're in a small town, its not that easy. And for the being spoiled part (mentioned by the oldies before in this thread) I am NOT. In fact, most of my friends' jaws dropped when I told them I didn't have cable. After, that, I didn't even bother telling them I had no microwave and we actually washed our dishes BY HAND, and not with a washing machine or whatever it is! (well, not until later, but my friends don't judge me. 3nodding ) You madam, are an anomaly. biggrin And in keeping with the spirit of fun Eirwyn pointed out... My husband is 26, (oh so ancient), and he loves to point out that he didn't grow up with the internet, every time he sees me on it. Constantly making fun of how young I am. So I constantly tease him about being over a quarter of a century old. smile

And on the subject of computers.... my mom yells at me if I'm on it for a couple hours, telling me to do something else for once. Like I can! As said before, I don't have cable, but still, sometimes my mom pulls me off the computer only to watch the tv. rolleyes computers are better! at least I'm practicing my typing skills on which I am tested on at school! And I'm not just sitting and watching some show with droll coming out of my mouth! And if you're thinking "go play with a neighbor" Guess what? All of my neighbors are oldies! and all of my friends are in maine and whatnot, so I can't hang out with them can i? >< biggrin okay, rant is done.

Oh Gosh, I'm only 15 and I have to agree with just about everything you people have mentioned. xD We pretty much ARE spoiled now, and I have my early childhood to prove that when my family insisted that we do things old school style. Yes, that meant spankings whenever I acted up, basic analog TV with me as the human antenna, and no internet for me until I was 11. I also lived in a 3rd world country for part of my childhood and the past was really stuck in place there. It was only in '04 that my grandmother's house in the countryside got cable. Until then we actually had to go out and get some exercise if we wanted to have fun, and let's not even mention the consistent blackouts.
Nowadays we are indeed spoiled, and these parents who believe that their kids should never be touched really annoy me. I'm pretty bratty now and I won't hide that (I don't say things like please or thank you unless really necessary but that's more because I'm shy and don't talk much IRL), but I would have been a borderline delinquent like my classmates if my parents hadn't taught me things the rough way. Seriously, the kinds of things my peers do for fun disgust me and give teenagers in general a bad name.
Alright, I probably made no sense here, but I'm done. Back to the GCD with me.

well I'm just about 17, and I for one think it's kind of rude for you other youngings to barge in here and display the teenage attitude that these folks were just complainng about-- wake up! Yeah, these people might not have experienced our school enviroments, but they still have survived a crazy mized up world for longer than we have-- instead of being complete jackasses to them, respect them.
Adults should be respected, not laughed at. They actually know a whole lot more than you like to give them credit for.
I'd like to thank you all in this thread for opening my eyes to how much of a jackass I am to my mother some times. Her and my father have been great parents, they've taught me politeness, responsibility, and the importance of a work ethic. People compliment me on my grades at school, but really the reason I'm doing so well is the fact that once someone assigns a homework assignment, I go home and I do it-- accomplishing the task I was given. AKA responsibility.
I suppose teens get fed up with their parents because "farmiliarity breeds contempt" an we're around them all the time. But still, they really can help us turn into well-rounded adults if we listen to them.

RuchiraFey Harbone I remember when pop music was exciting. Kids these days wouldn't survive two minutes in a mosh pit! I went out dancing, the other day (for a given value of other day) and I almost fell asleep on the dance floor. In my day, we played out music loud and hard! And violently! And punk! You call that punk! Some of those guys can actually sing, that ain't punk! excuse moi! but we do survive rather well in mosh pits, and perhaps you have just been gong to the wrong clubs, ey? what punk are you hearing, disney channel? and yes, im a teen checking out the geezers guild! trendsetter, here. Oh goodness me. Stop getting your dander up over a joke.
