Well, Mocha said in cold response, It takes lives to instill fear in the hearts of a patriarchal society. I know you all have been used to that little pretty-boy prince. That prince is now my slave, and I usurped his throne by right of feudalism. And, as you can tell, I am actually twenty years old, only using this body to have others think small of me. ~*~ The story detailed the miraculous asexual conception of a little red spaniel, who was told by her grandmother-- a series-specific character named 'Mono Fox'-- that she had to go on an adventure through time and space to save a seemingly insignificant white crane. She traveled from as far back as the Big Bang to Earth's eventual reformation into a monarchist society, witnessing various historical events. She always wondered about the crane, wondered if she had failed, and wondered if her feelings were something along the lines of love.

The spaniel, having nothing to compare her feelings to, merely assumed that her feelings were devotion, and a need to succeed in her life mission. As it seemed that all was lost, she eventually found him. After pinpointing the exact time of her rescue mission, she saved him from the herd of vultures who had intent to kill him, fending them all off with her tiny, but foreboding, teeth. The crane was very confused by this; after all, dogs weren't present in the cold marsh, and this one had saved him for no reason whatsoever. He calmly pretended as if nothing had happened, and the little dog shyly watched from afar as he swam away in his pond.

You know it, Mocha said into his mind, as if reading his thoughts. And don't forget it. ~*~ The little spaniel then went to sleep, satisfied that, although the one she saved didn't know her journey, he would be safe. Only now did she realize that she did love the crane. She went into a nice sleep a few feet away form the pond. After she woke up, she was warm, and then realized that the crane was caressing her behind the ears with his beak. She wondered why, but then he was puzzled as to why she didn't love him. The spaniel took this as a godsend, for her wish had come true, but she realized, with his unusual warmth, that she had just lost any memory of their love.

Mocha did not reply, apparently bored with the conversation. ~*~ The spaniel told the crane, and he, hurt, wished her away, as the entire scenario was causing him pain. The spaniel, realizing her life wasn't useful to the crane anymore, almost took a bite from a poisonous marsh mushroom, but the crane stopped her, insisting that there must be some way to solve it. Apparently, the one had woken her up was an odd cicada who spent his days helping others. Her dream was actually the dark part of her mind acting on her desires without her knowing. In dismay, the little spaniel went along with the relationship, knowing that, of course, the crane loved the fake, idealized her, not her for herself.

The spaniel, in her dismay, did everything in her power to please him. She cleaned muck from his marsh, caught him large, fat food-- for he was thin and weak-- and asked for absolutely nothing in return. The crane, sad that he was sucked into his dream, slightly continued with his wish to pull the fishing hook out of his wing. The spaniel was perfectly capable at taking the hook out, and, although it caused him immense pain, the crane had resolved to pull it out himself.
The spaniel, overjoyed that he should care for a facsimile of her [albeit not her], always caressed his neck, and smoothed his feathers, detailing her love.
Then the bernese mountain dog came.

[[Sorry Dae, cant think of anything ^_^;]] The spaniel remembered him as a friend who had given her food, although he made her fight for it... against several much larger, violent dogs. The mountain dog wished for the cute, loving, doting little spaniel to be his, as he deserved her more than some widower crane with a hook in his wing and odd plumage. The spaniel barked out her dedication to the crane, and that anyone else would drive her to self-harm.
In secret, though, the mountain dog tormented the crane, telling him that the crane only loved his lost life-mate female crane, and that the spaniel was just some odd creature caring for him. The crane denied all of these accusations, but knew in his heart that some of them were true.
