"That's fine," Damian replied to the other boy, "It'll be my treat..." However, he stalled on the question the boy asked as Damian was willing to have fun, but not that much fun. For too much fun could be dangerous. So he cautiously answered, "and the name's Alexis. Um, what would be yours?" he purposely inquired to test the boy's waters. His flirting, Damian decided could be ignored, but not his seemingly harmless exterior. He waited for an answer. Names could be very useful with just the right connections.

~*~*~*~*~* Needless to say, Draconis didn't sleep much. He tossed and turned, and in the end only got about two hours of sleep or less. The sun was barely rising in the sky when he rolled out of the pile of rags. Ugh. He did not feel good at all. Luckily, he wasn't hungry. But his head felt like it was trying to split in two. Stupid dehydration. In an attempt to push the wall open, Draconis ran at it with all his ninty-eight pounds of weight. It shifted just enough for him to get out... AND IT WAS COLD.
He hugged himself in the early morning cold, jogging to find a trough he knew was around. Really, it was just an empty flowerpot that filled with water, but it was enough. Upon finding it outside the west wall of... whatever this building was (he never bothered to check), he felt slightly better. He rubbed a bit of dirt from his face with a pinch of water, patting himself down to make sure there were no bugs on him. Lord, that one time when he woke up with the centipede on his shoulder...
Dubbing himself clean, he looked into the dark sky. He could see the crimson of the sun on the horizon, not ready to rise for a few hours now. He wondered what time it actually was...? Meh. Didn't really matter, he supposed. When he reached up to feel his probably greasy hair, he was surprised the the locks were alarmingly clean. Oh, yeah. He'd gotten a shower yesterday because of Regant...
Hm... Regant... what was he doing now? Draconis still had lingering guilt for lying and then making his escape after the boy had only tried to help him, but what was he supposed to do? He couldn't go stay with Regant, or something. That wasn't conducive to his lifestyle. He didn't want that. Or at least, didn't think he wanted it. Living by yourself was the only way to live on the streets, because no one could betray you but yourself. Couldn't argue with that logic, right? Right.
Oh, Lord, he thought, hearing the noises of the streets. Fights, gangs, gunshot, car backfire, alarms... Well, no one ever said it would be easy. ~*~*~*~*~*

"Alexis?" Ken asked, sounding slightly suprised. "That's a girly name," he commented, fiddling with a lock of his own hair. When asked his own name he answered, "Ai," as he did with all strangers. It was the name he went by on the street so that most people couldn't tell he was a boy; he got a lot less trouble that way. At least this guy was buying him icecream, he though, wondering what had changed in so little time. Shrugging, he figured whatever it was it didn't concern him, and that he should just be grateful.
...
When Regant woke up he was sitting on the ground, back against the brick wall of a building, drool rolling down his chin slowly. Wiping his mouth and yawning, he looked around and tried to clear his mind so he could remember why he was sleeping out in the open. "Oh yeah, I was fighting," he reminded himself, massaging his sore neck after that night of sleeping sitting up. Pushing himself to his feet, he took a moment to steady himself against the brick wall before thinking about what he might look like after so much fighting. "I need to reflect on this," he said, turning part of the wall into a mirror for him to use. Closely examining himself, he found a few cut and bruises, but nothing major. His hair was a little messed up, though, so he fixed it and then turned the wall back to normal with, "This thing is rough as brick." Satisfied with that, he walked off, having not gather any real information from the previous nights fights, but certainly coming away from it with a raging appetite.

"Just as girlie as yours," Damian retorted back. Ai's reaction had not been what he was expecting and it threw him off. He was a little annoyed since Alexis was in reality his middle name. As they went through the doors of the ice cream shop he paused to assess his surroundings. The day was becoming more stressful then relaxing, especially ever since he had met up with Ai. Finally sure that nothing was too suspicious, he got the two of them in line. "So, what flavor do you want?" Damian questioned Ai. He knew he'd be getting chocolate without even looking at the listing as it was his absolute favorite.

"Well I am a girl," Ken said, not yet ready to give up his charade, especially since they were in a public place he didn't have any influence in. When they walked in, Ken continued walking as 'Alexis' seemed to be looking around for something. "What are you doing?" he asked, wondering if they were supposed to be meeting up with someone. When asked for his flavour, he said shortly, "Pistachio," since he got the same thing every time. "So, what changed your attitude from yesterday?" he asked, finally unable to bear both the boredom and curiousity.

"Oh," Damian answered Ai's remark about being a girl. He guessed he'd been wrong about his assumption that Ai was a he. It did sort of make sense though, Ai was prettier than any guy he had ever seen. The second question, he simply ignored as he quickly ordered them their ice cream and got them seats outside. It was Ai's next inquiry however, that caused him to get nervous. Not even his closest friend Zane knew anything about his double life. How could he trust a mere aquaintance? "Look," Damian replied licking his ice cream, "I was on a job that day, today I'm trying to relax. That's all...." he trailed off not wanting to explain anymore than necessary. He wasn't sure how much more questioning he could take. "What about you?" Damian asked, directing the conversation at Ai, "Do you usually just go about roaming the streets at odd hours & fighting in the arena?"

Taking his icecream and following Alexis outside, Ken listened to the boy's responses with a kind of defeated half-intrest. "Oh, that's cool," he said to the boy's reply of being on a job. "I could never hold down a regular job; too much hassle. I mean, I'd have to report to a boss and everything," he complained, rather prefering his slightly desperate lifestyle of random odd jobs. When asked about his own habits, Ken answered, "Well, yeah, that's kind of what I do. I don't like my family, so I never want to go home. Instead I fight in the arena for money, and I sleep either in the infirmery there or just wherever I can get some space. It's better than dealing with my parents and sisters," he grumbled, bitterly remembering the last time he had seen them.

Damian nearly dropped his ice cream on the table as Ai finished his sentence. He could barely believe that Ai would simply spill such information so easily. Going back to eating his icecream, Damian ponder what to say next, Ai's eyes had been so clear; he was definitely telling the truth. Neither had he noticed that Damian had said too much himself. The fact that Ai hadn't figured out that 'Alexis' shouldn't know he stayed out odd hours conveyed a lot. *flashback to hotel incident* For a moment Damian felt like he could trust Ai with anything, but then he checked himself. Even if he could, the danger it would put both of them in wasn't worth it. Having Ai know about his family, he knew, would be like marking 'her' for death. Family. The word hit him hard. Damian paused midway crunching on the ice cream cone, Ai would have a hard time being able to understand how much he wished he still had one. As he peeled his eyes off the ground, he realized how awkward the silence must be, but he really was at a lose for words.

"What, your tongue frozen to the roof of your mouth or something?" Ken commented annoyedly as he waited for any kind of reply or response from Alexis, who seemed to have fallen silent. Of all things, Ken hated it when people ignored him, although his family was one exception. Still, their conversation had been going so well; at least in the sense that both of them were talking and neither of them apparently had the urge to strangle the other. Ken had actually enjoyed venting about work and his family until Alexis' awkward silence pricked a nerve of his.

((I'll be posting more erratically since I'll be going back to school shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.))
"Um no, I'm sorry....I mean," Damian stumbled with his words and thoughts, ice cream cone partway forgotten, "is it, that a pain to have a family?" Immediately he realized his mistake as he collected his thoughts from the jumble Ai had put them in with her annoyed query. He had given himself away & made a potential opening for her to question him more. His self-control was in a very bad state today, indeed, he worried. The less he talked the better....

((Posting erotically? lol xd That would be a great "lost in translation" moment. Yeah, not a problem. I've got school starting in about two weeks, so I won't be on as much either after that.))
"Yeah! You're lucky not to have a family," Ken said in an increasingly enraged voice. "My family sucks; they don't care about me at all. I would have been better off just growing up in some alley. At least there I never would have had to suffer through all of their fighting and harassment. My sisters are as bad as my parents! Tarting me up like I was a doll and dragging me around everywhere...you don't know what it's like to have four sadistic older sisters who hate you!" Ken finished venting and took a minute of silence to cool off and eat his icecream. He didn't really feel like talking after that, so he decided to just deffer the conversation to Alexis for the time being.

((It's fine. Why don't you have Draco meet up with Regant inadvertantly? Regant is still covered with bruises and scratches. he's not bright enough to think of using his magic to heal himself. xd He's going to get a bite from that restraunt.))
