Reminds me of a book I've read before.

A man wanted to get rid of his girlfriend, and gave her a cheque, thinking she'd take the money and be off. However, the woman was offended, because she thought the man thought she was all about money. So she went to the restaurant he usually goes to, and sat down to talk with him. She got mad, and looked like she was going to make a scene. The man was afraid she'd make a scene. Instead, she quickly took up her glove and gave his face a tiny slap.
