the Ultramariens series and space wolves series are exelent reading

The souls are used to power navigation through the warp, and to do navigation. Without that, the Imperium would fall apart into thousands of seperate factions, and thus, crumble.

Actually, the Emperor doesn't want to be kept alive. In fact, if he were to finally he'd be able to take all of Chaos with him kicking and screaming.
Leaving the foolish humans ripe for the picking of the C'tan in their midst.

I've read a number of the Space Wolves novels and I will second the recomendation. THey were excellent.

So ive have preordered Conquest of Armageddon yay for me

I loved Ben Counter's Grey Knights, its what got me into 40k in the first place. Lord of the Night is another good one.

Oh and about the EMperor, if he were to die, the star child might be born, and therefore rape all the c'tan and chaos gods. Although the c'tan would kick our a** cause of "the dragon" and the 4 dark gods are breaking the Emperor's mind, so unless the Emperor dies soon the Imperium is screwed.
