Steel Sterling I'd rather you answer the Sheliak question first, but go ahead. sorry, but my Knowledge of NextGen is near nothing. I don't even know what a Sheliak is sweatdrop
So if ya'll don't mind, I'll go ahead and answer teh Jem'Hadar question 3nodding
Steel Sterling NEW question! This is from Deep Space 9. The Jem'Hadar serve the Founders with fanatical loyalty. There are two important reasons they do so. What are they? They are Crack-Babys with a mind for Worship. No, seriously.
Jem'Hadar are Genetically Engineered with an addiction to "Ketracel White"(Crack), as if you really want control over something, give it an addiction. I believe this also is their Nutritional Supplement, as I have never seen a Jem'Hadar ingest anything, other than teh Ketracel White. So, there really is no point in them having a mouth. Except for the Other reason why the Founders have control over them.
The Jem'Hadar and the Vorta Worship the Founders(Changelings) as their Gods. Adn the Jem'Hadar have mouths only to offer praise and kiss the (artificial) a** of the Founders. The founders, of course, have no problems with this, as it leaves them two fuly willing Species to conquer teh Universe in their Name, with hardly ever any Casualties on their own side. And one HELL of an Ego Trip.
Is that Enough? whee

Steel Sterling NEW question! This is also a NextGen question. In one of my personal favourite episodes, Picard matched wits with a captain of a ship from the Sheliak Corporate. There was a dispute over settlers on a planet. A) How were the stubborn settlers convinced to leave, and who convinced them? B) How did Picard outwit the Sheliak captain? C) Riker: "You enjoyed that!" Picard: "You're damned RIGHT!" What was it Picard enjoyed so much, and why? xd Question, prepare to be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
The episode is "the Ensigns of Command". The Sheliak claimed humans have an imprecise, vague language, and insisted their treaty be a huge document, with everything spelled out and stated explicitly, and no wiggle-room for unforeseen circumstances.
All episode, Picard's trying to get the Sheliak to give him the 2 weeks necessary to get a transport to the colony, sufficient to relocate all the settlers and their belongings. Picard's diplomacy wasn't working. Tbe Sheliak kept "hanging up" on him when he tried to rely on the interpretive speech of negotiation.
Meanwhile Data was on the planet negotiating with the humans. (It was Data because the planet's climate had background radiation that Data was immune to, but would sicken most humans not adapted to it.)
A) Data finally convinced them to leave. He rigged his phaser to punch thru the background radiation, then destroyed their water-pumping station with a single shot. He then explained the Sheliak would do the same to the colony, from orbit, destroying it without facing the colonists.
B) Picard finally scrutinized the treaty, and found his loophole. He cited the exact line that allowed him to call for 3-rd party arbitration by a neutral race to settle disagreements between the Federation and Sheliak. He selected a race from the designated list- a race that would be in HIBERNATION for several months. They could give him his 2 weeks, or wait the months until the other race woke up.
C) When the Sheliak captain balked at waiting the several months, Picard declared him in violation of the treaty, then had them disconnect the communication, "hanging up" on the Sheliak for once instead of the other way around. Riker: *grinning* "You enjoyed that!" Picard: "You're damned right!"
It's SO one of the best moments in the series. wink

Steel Sterling NEW question! ==== This one's a Deep Space 9 question. A) What Earth beverage did Quark liken to the Federation, B) and what attributes of it did he say were like the Federation? C) Who was he talking to at the time? 2 out of 3 or better, please. smile
I'll try to guess...
A) Root Beer B) something about being bitter, bad taste or something like that at first but that you get used to them and you end liking them. C) My guess would be Morn... althought it might be Garak.
Hope someone can answer this better than I did. razz

That's close enough, actually. I'm sure you saw the episode. smile
A) Yes- it was root beer.
B) the conversation went something like this, more or less: "Look at it. It's sweet and it's happy and bubbling. It's revolting." "Just like the Federation." "But you know what the disturbing part is? If you drink enough of it, then you begin to like it." "Just like the Federation."
C) The "just like the Federation" lines were Garak's. If you remembered there was a 2-way conversation, you would have eliminated Morn as a suspect- Morn never has lines! xd

Steel Sterling NEW question! === This is a NextGen question. Data was once concerned about the well-being of his cat, and asked one crewmember to catsit for him while he sorted out the odd dreams he was having. He gave extensive instructions as to Spot's care and so on. A) Who did he entrust Spot to? B) What did that crewmember promise to do?
Still waiting on this one...

Yep, I saw the episode... like 2 years ago. Now that I think of it, except from one episode catched at random from time to time (meaning two or three times a year) I didn't watch anything in more than a year. I wonder where my tapes are...

Steel Sterling NEW question! This is about transporters. Those things can be a bit unnerving to use. Especially since they disintegrate you, and, we hope, put the real you back together with everything intact. Some crewmembers never liked the transporters. A) Which member of the Original Series cast hated the transporters? B) Which member of the NextGen cast hated the transporters? C) Which member of the NextGen cast feared the transporters? D) Which member of the Deep Space 9 cast SHOULD have avoided the transporters, and did, until the writers forgot, and WHY did they avoid them? Answer ANY of those to post- I'm hoping to see all 4 answered, even if by 4 different people.
I think I know A, C and D. Not sure at all about B. But I'll wait to see if someone else answers first.

OK, I waited enough, let's see... TOS: Dr. McCoy TNG: Barclay feared transporters. He feared them so much that had a whole episode with him trying to overcome this... and saved the day in the meanwhile. I think the one who hated them was Lwaxana, but I'm not sure of it. DS9: We learnt that transporters can damage symbionts or at least their connection to their host (TNG), so Jadzia should've avoided transporters all the time. But I guess that was tiring for the people making the episodes so for some extrange reason Trills can now use transporters without worring to harm the symbiont.

A) Correct! If you remember the first Star Trek movie, he refused to enter the transporter until given a direct order. (He was right-remember what happened to the other people in that movie? "What we got didn't live long....fortunately."
B) No, there was a member of the crew who hated the transporters, period. This one's still open.
C) Yes, Barclay feared the transporters and saw things in transport. Yes, that saved the day.
D) Correct! Trills were introduced in the ST:TNG episode "the Host". It was established from the beginning that trills can't use the transporter. This worked for a while on ST biggrin S9. The episode where Dax was going to join the planet that goes into the Phantom Zone was the first really obvious time Dax used a transporter. (Not the very first, but it was part of the dialogue and got lots of screen-time.) A friend of mine said "obviously, they fixed whatever was wrong with the transporters." I agree the Federation guys, at least, are always upgrading transporters, so Dax could be safe beaming off a runabout, Federation ship with good maintenance like the Defiant, or Deep Space 9 itself. But, like my friend said, I'd at least be UNEASY about entering one. (He sent a note to Phil Farrand that I "go into violent fits" when Dax goes near a transporter.)
So, we still need the Enterprise-D crewmember who hates beaming.
