dakki-dono Halfling Heroine That art is so cute! 4laugh I'm afraid I'm guilty of having the wonky proportions whenever I try to draw people realistically. lol I'm trying to improve my anatomy but I haven't gotten very far. I've gotten quite good at doing clothing and faces, but my actual bodies need a lot of work. If any of you have any tips on how I could improve, I'd really appreciate it~ I might see if I can get my brother to take some pictures of my fail-tastic drawing so you can get an idea of where I'm at. The best way to start drawing realistically is to draw from life. Draw actual bodies and faces and use real people as references when you can't have some person sitting right there for hours. And yes, that includes naked people. If you don't use references, you get the half-real half ******** whatever my sig is. gonk
Thank you, I'll try that. It might not be practical to get people I know irl to let me draw them naked (self concious teenagers lol) but I'm sure I could find models in books or something. I've gotten better at portraits but when I'm doing a fullbody I'm not sure where to start. With a face I'd always start with the eyes...but I've been told that drawing the head first isn't necessarily a good idea when trying to draw a full person.
Also, I really love the drawing in your sig. Most people draw their avatars as teenagers or young adults..... but your's has a more weathered face. Your art tells a story without needing any words. You can almost imagine what kind of life Dakki could have had. As much as I like anime style art, I think that traditional art has it's own emotional impact. Not that I'm an expert or anything of course! I go to painting classes and my teacher told me that once you get enough practice at painting or drawing something, you can recreate a relastic image without references. I'm sure you've been told this many times, but I'm impressed that you could draw a picture like that, especially without a reference. 3nodding

Draw what you see.
Not what you think you see.
There's the hugest difference from that alone, and that was the first thing I was taught in my drawing 1 through life drawing classes. Also, reference are you best friend. I don't care how Dakki draws, but if you want to learn anatomy properly, you must at least glance at a reference to get proportions correct when you start out.
I could totally send you my folder with like, 400+ refs. Most are either stock, or magazine clippings with natural poses.

Actually, they're not. I got the folder from Drunkenstyle, and he mostly got them himself or from the 4chan drawing board (I forgot what it's called lmao), there's maybe....only 2 or 3 that could be considered a pin up. XD
