Recently another one of my guilds has gone off on a tangent of disgusting fics. One of the fic links that was posted was for a Draco/Moody/Flich fic where Draco is a ferret.

I guess my question is this: how do you feel about these kinds of fics? And what would compel a person to write such a fic? Do they like it, or are they trying to make some people feel icky? I know I cannot enjoy fics with bestiality, and often rape as well.

The entire point of any writing is to explore things that we wouldn't do in real life. Most the time in fanfiction, odd pairings are written for the squick factor, to watch how people react to it, to have a good laugh.

But sometimes, Padfoot/Remus (Padfoot being Sirius in dog form) or Harry/Moony (werewolf), or ferret!Draco/Somebody or GiantSquid/Somebody, or rape is used not as a "hahah that's funny" but a reflection of a fantasy.

Many people are intrigued by the idea of beastiality. They would never do it themselves, they'd rather not watch some woman with fake breasts and hair and too much makeup do it, but they're interested, so when they find fics that have beastiality in it, it intrigues them. They become turned on because it's presented in a way that is not "disgusting" or "wrong" or done for a few bucks on the side. The human character has the same emotions they feel in first time beast fics, or the description of the act is enough for the reader. Sometimes it turns them away if it's an accurate fic (anybody who has so much as glanced at a dog p***s or a horse p***s will be able to tell it's no ******** ride in the park), sometimes it turns them more on to the idea, or at least assure them that they are not disgusting freaks--other people think about it, even do it, too. Not to say every person who reads/writes a beast fic will go and ******** a dog, but they won't feel as terrible about it, and the stories act as a safe outlet for such feelings (masturbate to the stories, far less dangerous then trying to get your dog to mount you--that could have some nasty side effects).

Rape is actually a huge kink in the BDSM community. Not rape so much as the idea of it. Two consenting partners have signals and words. Then, lets say one comes home from work and gets strangled. Their attacker says one word, moves their hand in a certain way, and the "victim" relaxes and has a chance to do the same to either back out or continue on. From then on out, the aggresor does what they please. Stories with rape in it, or just centered on rape, is usually read by people who have that kink. They get involved in the story, put themselves in the characters place--it's a safe situation without the concious actively knowing "Oh it's just my boyfriend/girlfriend playing a kinky sex game with me" Because let's face it--nobody actually wants to get raped.

Rape fics are also great for victims. A character to share their pain with, to come to terms to what happened to them. Or for people to understand what happens to a rape victim (assuming it's well written, again), to explore the emotions involved.

The same goes for incest. A safe outlet for a not so safe idea. Many people have fleeting fantasies of what it'd be like with their siblings. Just a thought, not something they'd act on, but an idea. Sometimes not even leaving their subconcious. Stories written with things like that are safe outlets to explore that subconcious, to explore that desire, to realize, as you get reviews or as you read it, that you are not alone in your 2 second fantasy.

People write to express, and people read to find some one who understands them. That is why a lot of people write and read beastiality, rape, incest, tentacle porn, etc.

Then again, there are the people who write Dumbledore/Hagrid just to get a reaction out of people. But you know. You just got to let them do their thing. It's funny when you're bored.

I can handle normal rape, but when they throw in things like tentacle rape it's just messed up. Beastiality doesn't really bother me, but I'd rather not read about it.
I don't squick very easily anymore, but sometimes fics will throw in things that just make me want to strike the author.

I'm agreeing with Padfoot on this one and as someone who's first foray into the world of fanfiction was a master/slave Remus/Sirius fic, I'd say I'm pretty willing to read nearly anything. *shrugs*

I'm fairly open to just about anything. Kinda got a thing for tails (especially if they're prehensile). I draw the line at anything involving Filch... or ferrets. Either one squicks the hell outta me. Bleaugh...

Rape is another matter entirely. I suppose for me it depends on how its presented in the story. For some, it needed it to push the plot forward. For others, it could have done without. I don't always need to read it though. it's enough for me to know it was there, or referenced, but I've been known to skip over parts like that.

I like what Sirius Black-Lupin said on this subject. I understand things like this gross most people out but honestly, it's just a fantasy world for me. It's more weird pairings that get to me than weird things. Anything involving Filch or Wormtail is just gross to me.

First of all holy mother of God! How long did it take to type that up?

I agree with most of what you say, and after I thought about my question essentially I drew the same same conclusions. I just - I dunno, I can't explain.

Actually that's rather short compared to some of my speils. Not too long though.

And um, well, cool. ^_^

I agree 100% with Sirius Black-Lupin. Speaking as someone who has writen bestiality, I don't write it because I want to do it in real life, I write it because it's something I would never do.

I have an imagination and use it.

The idea of Moody and Filtch and Draco grosses me out, but it's only because I don't like the thought of a couple old guys going at each other.

I'll read pretty much any type of story, just so long as it involves my favorite characters. I read it because it's not real.

i dont really have a say on the beastiality because i havent really read that many though what Sirius Black-Lupin says does make sense.
For the rape though, most of the time thats the main thing that I search for because I like BSDM. I also love how rape opens up new elements to a story. With a rape you can bring in a "hero" and make reallllly cute fluff scenes. Or you can watch what happens to the victim and see how the rest of their lives turn out. It can be really quite exciting.

I'd like to try writing a beastialty fic sometime myself. I don't practice it because it's disgustiing, but writing abot it sounds kinda interesting

It is kind of hard to write bestiality if you're intollerant to it. But it is possible. I myself am neutral on the topic, so it makes it easier to write it. Plus I have a friend who helps me out with it, she writes excellent stuff.

And yes, writting about it is interesting. It's because you would never do it in real life that makes it that much more interesting to read or write. It's kind of like forbbiden fruit. It's something that you know you shouldn't be reading or writing, but that's what makes it so appealing to some. I write it because of that.

I personally don't like either genre. They add that squick factor which I don't like. I am sure some of them are people writing about fantasies and writing parodies but I don't read them. I don't think violence like rape should be in the slash genre, I think that it changes the whole "love" dynamic of to people having sex. Beastiality I don't read but I don't have a problem with. As long as they aren't hurting the animal sweatdrop . But they are out there, quite a few are out there and thankfully most of the authors are nice enough to put warnings in the summary of their fics so people like me who don't like it can find something else to read. After all I truly doubt that there would be a day when I couldn't find something I liked to read biggrin .

I think there's a bit of a grey area, at least for me. I mean, there's bestiality and then there's bestiality. The full on beast thing rather squicks me. On the other hand, if it's like something that's human but part beast (like a were of some sort) that can perhaps change partially? You know, maybe a tail and some primal instincts of some sort... I can stand that to a point.

Then there's always other humanoid creatures. Like those beast demons you might see on Inuyasha or something.
