What is so great about Picard ... ?

A large percentage of the membership of this guild appear to be diehard Picard fans (though there are some few who support other captains myself included) and I just want to ask all those many Picard fans this question. Why Picard over all the others, what makes him stand out so? Because I just don't see his particular appeal (to me he appears mostly as a grumpy old man when compared to the other more exiting captains).

I find Picard more diplomatic than all of the others. Kirk didn't even try to make peace with talk... he would normally punch them until they gave up. xd Sisko, he's way too serious for my taste. Picard is sometimes serious, but he has a lighter side to him that Sisko seems to be afraid to show off. Also, he's charming, witty, and quite sophisticated. 3nodding He might have his weakenesses like children, but at least he tries to confront them. 3nodding

I agree with both of you but Janeway and Picard were very diffrent though both were more dimplomats the kirk(Muff love him). Janeway was more of a boss were she was very frank and blaunt Picard was formal and calculating.

Yeah I like Picard, 'cause he's cool, but I like Kirk too, i love all the vulcan jokes and yeah. plus Picard is a better fighter, kirk was wimpy. he basically just threw a couple punches and let them tackle him until Spock showed up to do the cool grip thing. Picard could actually hold his own, and didn't stare nonstop at every pretty alien girl who walked past. ugh. so yeah Picard rocks!
