Makeup, I am not a fan. I'll put that up front. But recently after I didn't have any powder or base and only had my many lip glosses/chapsticks and mascara I wanted at least the option of wearing makeup. So I started researching mineral makeups besides Bare Minerals and Sheer Cover (horrible reviews on MU). makeupalley was really helpful and I narrowed things down to Everyday Minerals, Aromaleigh, and Jane Iredale. Jane Iredale is expensive and only sold in upscale places and some dermatologist places, both EM and aromaleigh sell samples so that was really attractive. EM had better reviews and I was attracted to their sample program more than aromaleigh so I bought a sample pack and expermented with colors. I ended up with medium-fair cool and I'm pretty much diggin' have a full face of makeup on and feeling like nothing is there. I know I'm going to repurchase.

I had already tried Bare Minerals, my mom ordered it for us ages ago, but it bugged me that all their stuff had warm undertones. I know they're going for a sun-kissed look but I'm cool, dammit, cool!

So anyway, I thought it would be fun for us to have a skin care/makeup thread since even though I only wear base a couple times a year I'm totally into skin care and am always interested in routines even though I don't ever see me straying from the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM)

rofl. I don't think anyone checks this forum, I know I didn't until I decided to make topics.

i don't know if you'll come back to check this out or not....

i really like bare minerals. i know what you mean about the warm tones though. i'm kind of an in between. but for me bare minerals works the best out of what i've tried. but i may try other things later..

another skincare line that gets rave reviews is called DHC. You can google it. Their water based foundation rocks.

A lot of their products would work with the OCM

Yeah, DHC Oil Cleanser is like OCM but more expensive but I certainly use the samples when they send me their catolog. But, since they are a Japanese company, it is a good thing that I have a backup to my oils when I go back to Japan.

I'm glad bareminerals works for you! 3nodding

crying I'm too poor to get into the whole make-up thing. I do have cleansers though, I get them for free from Mary Kay. The purifying ones are nice - and the lotion you put on your hands (that smells like roses) is yummy.

I wish Bare Minerals wasn't so expensive :[ I hate make up, though, too. . . no matter what brand I try, concealers of all types (liquid, powder, etc.), it clogs my pores immediately. . . I have really oily, icky skin crying

I have kinda the opposite problem..

I have incredibly fair skin (I haven't found make up white enough for me yet) with cool undertones, and it's VERY dry.

I use the.. I think it's Maybelline makeup with no artificial preservatives-- made mostly of water. (I'll look up the name later.) It's pretty cheap and it comes in a little light-green tube.

When I use it, I mix it with a deep moisturizer with SPF built in. I wear it all day and wash it off at night, and put on a deep moisturizer before sleeping.

I'm VERY prone to getting hives, so I can't use any acne care/ acne treatments. sad Not even makeup that's like "won't clog pores!! won't give you acne!!"-- it gives me horrible hives.

I'm struggling to find a concealer, though.. every concealer i find is too dark. Concealer should be LIGHTER than my skin, so that it can hide my red blotches, or dark circles under my eyes-- but every concealer I find is slightly DARKER than my skin sad it just makes everything more noticable.

Luckily I have clear skin and don't need to wear concealer THAT often, but there are times I need to wear it, and have no luck finding any..

A girl from my naturalskin com on LJ is super pale and said aromaleigh is the only one (mineral) she could find for her paleness. They were next on my list but I ended up sticking with Everyday Minerals.

Bare Minerals isn't really the best example of mineral makeup, in my opinion. Many others are just as good or better and are less expensive. BM also contains bismuth oxide, which is a sparkley byproduct from working iron but can also be a skin irritant (if BM irritates your face it is probably the bismuth oxide).

What's your skincare routine like?

Has anyone used pro-active? If so what do you think of it? I'm 15 and i'd like to try it just have to stumble upon some money first wink
PostPosted: Mon Nov 19, 2007 12:19 pm
Super delayed response you may or may not see.

Proactiv is based on a 2.5% concentration of benzoyl peroxide in both their cleanser and treatment combined with a 6% concentration of glycolic acid in their toner (a great exfoliator). You can find all those products for much cheaper than proactiv (of course the inactive ingredients will not be the same and their are differences)

BP kills the bacteria that causes acne just like sulfur or tea tree oil (my personal spot treatment) while the toner is removing dead skin and build up. BP also causes the release of free radicals (unstable oxygen) that can age the skin. BP is also a bleach and do not be surprised if your favorite shirt gets a bleached collar or your sheets end up with bleach spots. Even if you are careful it is hard to keep BP away from anything it can bleach. BTW, if you have dark eyebrows this also includes them so give them a pass when you apply the lotion.

Personally I am allergic to BP so I'm not completely up on it but acne.org is popular with the BP fans.

I haven't researched all of the products that you're all mentioning, so I can't say for certain what's in them. But do a little research on your own. The vast majority of cosmetics and skin care out in the world today contain animal products or byproducts; those that don't are often tested on animals. How beautiful can you feel, knowing that an animal died so that its fat could go into your lipstick? How beautiful can you feel, knowing that they smeared your eye shadow into a bunny's eyes to see if the bunny went blind? Even though some companies say that they don't do this (and are telling the truth), they sometimes get their INGREDIENTS from companies that do this. Labels can be deceiving, so be careful. There are no specific laws exist regarding cruelty-free labeling of products, so companies can take liberties. While it is unlikely that a company would put blatantly false information regarding its animal-testing practices on its products, the statements it does make may not be fully informative and may indeed mislead consumers. For example, the label on Clairol’s Herbal Essence shampoo states that it is not tested on animals; Clairol, however, does test other products on animals.

Products that DO NOT use animal products or animal testing, and do not get ingredients from companies that use or abuse animals... I'll put them in a separate post, actually.

This is HUGELY long, I know. Don't bother reading it. Just do a CONTROL-F find for the name of the company you'd like to know about. Or, print this out and carry it with you when you shop for cosmetics and skin care, and look it up that way. It's organized alphabetically. Some of these companies make very expensive products, and some make extremely affordable products, but they are all anti-cruelty. I'm doing this in several posts, because it's really long.
