Well, I was playing around on Quizzila when I found this:
If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about." [
I don't know for sure; but the author said that this is a Gerard quote. Makes ya think, huh?

[I know exactly what you mean (or exactly what gerard means). When i was younger, like 13 or so, I'd listen to crappy music, like creed and stuff (just my opinion, if you like creed its fine) But anyway, I just kinda settled with it because i didnt really know of any better. But then I heard about better bands, bands that sang about "emo" stuff like suicide and real pain and all the stuff I was basically going through, and I was like "eureka! These bands are singing what I'm feeling inside". And that show I came to love the used, mcr, etc.

Makes ya think, huh? that's kind of what it's like for me now. and i wouldn't think i was better than some 16 year old girl in a green day shirt, hell i would freak out and tell her green day rocks(i have done this several times to people wearing clothing with a heartagram on it and one guy in a the used shirt) i think ray said it,not gerard confused maybe,i dunno,if i'm wrong i'm just losing my mind

Death_In_Black I love that quote from Gerard. I think he's totally right. <3 ~<3 I just wish some of the other members of our guild would take their quote to heart. If I hear one more person bitching "OMG their so fake! They aren't a real fan like I am" one more time I'm going to scream. burning_eyes

That's my favorite Gerard quote, because it's true, and everyone can relate to it.

That is so true. I know what he means because I'm a huge Green Day fan myself, and in the GD fandom there's always a war between old-school fans and "post American Idiot" fans. I'm somewhere in the middle (really liked them before AI but didn't get seriously into them until after that) It's gotten to the point that if you're wearing an AI shirt instead of one of the other ones you're automatically labelled a teenie who only listens because of the 'hAwttnEsS oF BiLlIE jOe!!!!!one!!!!111' I think it also happens in the MCR fandom - I only knew a handful of their songs before The Black Parade, which was my first MCR album. Yet some people see anyone who becomes a fan after TBP as somehow "less" of a fan than they are, which is sad I think.

I, too, didn't REALLY get into Green Day until I bought American Idiot. But I'm just as big of a fan (if not more so) than the older fans. I loved MCR before TBP, but hadn't heard too many of their songs because I didn't have the CDs and only heard them when my friend would play them. Now, I'm addicted to both bands, and I'll be damned if I'm not 'worthy' because I came into it late. Some just aren't fortunate enough to be exposed to much good music beyond the radio and singles.

Exactly! Before I got the other albums someone would ask me, "what are the older songs you know/like?" and I'd say, "The Ghost of You," or "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" or something to that nature, and they'd be like, "OMG you only know the singles grrrrr!!!!!"
...
Well yeah, because I don't have the CD so of course I only know the singles - they're the ones played on the TV/radio! rolleyes xp How else would I know the others...? (Of course, there's the point that they are probably still pretty much my favourite songs from the other albums, heh. blaugh )

Well I absolutely LOVE "Helena" and people used to think I only liked it because it was a single. Its not my fault that the radio chooses to play a song I like. You know what I mean?
